Absolute continuity of symmetric Markov processes
We study Girsanov's theorem in the context of symmetric Markov processes,
extending earlier work of Fukushima-Takeda and Fitzsimmons on Girsanov
transformations of ``gradient type.'' We investigate the most general Girsanov
transformation leading to another symmetric Markov process. This investigation
requires an extension of the forward-backward martingale method of Lyons-Zheng,
to cover the case of processes with jumps.Comment: Published by the Institute of Mathematical Statistics

The LU-LC conjecture is false
The LU-LC conjecture is an important open problem concerning the structure of entanglement of states described in the stabilizer formalism. It states that two local unitary equivalent stabilizer states are also local Clifford equivalent. If this conjecture were true, the local equivalence of stabilizer states would be extremely easy to characterize. Unfortunately, however, based on the recent progress made by Gross and Van den Nest, we find that the conjecture is false. © Rinton Press
Integrable models and quantum spin ladders: comparison between theory and experiment for the strong coupling ladder compounds
(abbreviated) This article considers recent advances in the investigation of
the thermal and magnetic properties of integrable spin ladder models and their
applicability to the physics of real compounds. The ground state properties of
the integrable two-leg spin-1/2 and the mixed spin-(1/2,1) ladder models at
zero temperature are analyzed by means of the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz.
Solving the TBA equations yields exact results for the critical fields and
critical behaviour. The thermal and magnetic properties of the models are
investigated in terms of the recently introduced High Temperature Expansion
method, which is discussed in detail. It is shown that in the strong coupling
limit the integrable spin-1/2 ladder model exhibits three quantum phases: (i) a
gapped phase in the regime , (ii) a fully polarised phase for
, and (iii) a Luttinger liquid magnetic phase in the regime
. The critical behaviour in the vicinity of the critical
points is of the Pokrovsky-Talapov type. The temperature-dependent thermal and
magnetic properties are directly evaluated from the exact free energy
expression and compared to known experimental results for a range of strong
coupling ladder compounds. Similar analysis of the mixed spin-(1/2,1) ladder
model reveals a rich phase diagram, with a 1/3 and a full saturation
magnetisation plateau within the strong antiferromagnetic rung coupling regime.
For weak rung coupling, the fractional magnetisation plateau is diminished and
a new quantum phase transition occurs. The phase diagram can be directly
deduced from the magnetisation curve obtained from the exact result derived
from the HTE. The thermodynamics of the spin-orbital model with different
single-ion anisotropies is also investigated.Comment: 90 pages, 33 figures, extensive revisio
Peierls distorted chain as a quantum data bus for quantum state transfer
We systematically study the transfer of quantum state of electron spin as the
flying qubit along a half-filled Peierls distorted tight-binding chain
described by the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, which behaves as a quantum
data bus. This enables a novel physical mechanism for quantum communication
with always-on interaction: the effective hopping of the spin carrier between
sites and connected to two sites in this SSH chain can be induced by
the quasi-excitations of the SSH model. As we prove, it is the Peierls energy
gap of the SSH quasi-excitations that plays a crucial role to protect the
robustness of the quantum state transfer process. Moreover, our observation
also indicates that such a scheme can also be employed to explore the intrinsic
property of the quantum system.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figure
ME-GAN: Learning Panoptic Electrocardio Representations for Multi-view ECG Synthesis Conditioned on Heart Diseases
Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a widely used non-invasive diagnostic tool for
heart diseases. Many studies have devised ECG analysis models (e.g.,
classifiers) to assist diagnosis. As an upstream task, researches have built
generative models to synthesize ECG data, which are beneficial to providing
training samples, privacy protection, and annotation reduction. However,
previous generative methods for ECG often neither synthesized multi-view data,
nor dealt with heart disease conditions. In this paper, we propose a novel
disease-aware generative adversarial network for multi-view ECG synthesis
called ME-GAN, which attains panoptic electrocardio representations conditioned
on heart diseases and projects the representations onto multiple standard views
to yield ECG signals. Since ECG manifestations of heart diseases are often
localized in specific waveforms, we propose a new "mixup normalization" to
inject disease information precisely into suitable locations. In addition, we
propose a view discriminator to revert disordered ECG views into a
pre-determined order, supervising the generator to obtain ECG representing
correct view characteristics. Besides, a new metric, rFID, is presented to
assess the quality of the synthesized ECG signals. Comprehensive experiments
verify that our ME-GAN performs well on multi-view ECG signal synthesis with
trusty morbid manifestations
Broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and improved stability of a D-Amino acid enantiomer of DMPC-10A, the designed derivative of dermaseptin truncates
DMPC-10A (ALWKKLLKK-Cha-NH2) is a 10-mer peptide derivative from the N-terminal domain of Dermaseptin-PC which has shown broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity as well as a considerable hemolytic effect. In order to reduce hemolytic activity and improve stability to endogenous enzymes, a D-amino acid enantiomer (DMPC-10B) was designed by substituting all L-Lys and L-Leu with their respective D-form amino acid residues, while the Ala1 and Trp3 remained unchanged. The D-amino acid enantiomer exhibited similar antimicrobial potency to the parent peptide but exerted lower cytotoxicity and hemolytic activity. Meanwhile, DMPC-10B exhibited remarkable resistance to hydrolysis by trypsin and chymotrypsin. In addition to these advantages, DMPC-10B exhibited an outstanding antibacterial effect against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Klebsiella pneumoniae using the Galleria mellonella larva model and displayed synergistic activities with gentamicin against carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae strains. This indicates that DMPC-10B would be a promising alternative for treating antibiotic-resistant pathogens
