    Effects of the complex mass distribution of dark matter halos on weak lensing cluster surveys

    Gravitational lensing effects arise from the light ray deflection by all of the mass distribution along the line of sight. It is then expected that weak lensing cluster surveys can provide us true mass-selected cluster samples. With numerical simulations, we analyze the correspondence between peaks in the lensing convergence κ\kappa-map and dark matter halos. Particularly we emphasize the difference between the peak κ\kappa value expected from a dark matter halo modeled as an isolated and spherical one, which exhibits a one-to-one correspondence with the halo mass at a given redshift, and that of the associated κ\kappa-peak from simulations. For halos with the same expected κ\kappa, their corresponding peak signals in the κ\kappa-map present a wide dispersion. At an angular smoothing scale of θG=1arcmin\theta_G=1\hbox{arcmin}, our study shows that for relatively large clusters, the complex mass distribution of individual clusters is the main reason for the dispersion. The projection effect of uncorrelated structures does not play significant roles. The triaxiality of dark matter halos accounts for a large part of the dispersion, especially for the tail at high κ\kappa side. Thus lensing-selected clusters are not really mass-selected.     Numerical analysis of the hydrodynamic behaviour of immiscible metallic alloys in twin-screw rheomixing process

    A numerical analysis by a VOF method is presented for studying the hydrodynamic mechanisms of the rheomixing process by a twin-screw extruder (TSE). The simplified flow field is established based on a systematic analysis of flow features of immiscible alloys in TSE rheomixing process. The studies focus on the fundamental microstructure mechanisms of rheological behaviour in shear-induced turbulent flows. It is noted that the microstructure of immiscible alloys in the mixing process is strongly influenced by the interaction between droplets, which is controlled by shearing forces, viscosity ratio, turbulence, and shearing time. The numerical results show a good qualitative agreement with the experimental results, and are useful for further optimisation design of prototypical rheomixing processes

    News editors need to find the photos that best illustrate a news piece and fulfill news-media quality standards, while being pressed to also find the most recent photos of live events. Recently, it became common to use social-media content in the context of news media for its unique value in terms of immediacy and quality. Consequently, the amount of images to be considered and filtered through is now too much to be handled by a person. To aid the news editor in this process, we propose a framework designed to deliver high-quality, news-press type photos to the user. The framework, composed of two parts, is based on a ranking algorithm tuned to rank professional media highly and a visual SPAM detection module designed to filter-out low-quality media. The core ranking algorithm is leveraged by aesthetic, social and deep-learning semantic features. Evaluation showed that the proposed framework is effective at finding high-quality photos (true-positive rate) achieving a retrieval MAP of 64.5% and a classification precision of 70%.Comment: To appear in ICMR'1
