    A Comparative Study of Translation of The Spyring or Lust, Cautionby Eileen Chang and Julia Lovell in View of Translator’s Subjectivity

    In view of The Spyring or Lust, Caution has already become one of the modern Chinese classic novels as one of the representative works by Eileen Chang with strong influence in China to a deep degree for sketching China’s historical situation and cultural characteristics. Since its publication, it has been translated into several languages and appreciated by readers of all works of many countries. In view of the English version as a success, Eileen Chang, the author In fact, the subjectivity of the Chinese and English translators like Eileen Chang and Julia Lovell in particular, plays a pivotal role in the translation process. From an interdisciplinary perspective, a comparative analysis can be made in four aspects: the translator’s subjective consciousness and sub-consciousness, subjective creativity, intentionality and selectivity, and the choice of obedience or resistance in the translation process. Moreover, since the author is the translator in fewer cases, it is of great research value to study the comparison between the author-translator and the reader-translator, which can help culture exchange and communication and set up a sample for the channels to make works of china more adaptable to the acceptability of foreign readers while spreading Chinese literature and culture of high quality

    Hubble constant from the cluster-lensed quasar system SDSS J1004+4112: investigation of the lens model dependence

    As a fundamental parameter for modern cosmology, the Hubble constant H0H_0 is experiencing a serious crisis. In this paper, we explore an independent approach to measure H0H_0 based on the time-delay cosmography with strong gravitational lensing of a quasar by a galaxy cluster. Specifically we focus on the strong lensing system SDSS J1004+4112 with the maximum image separation of 14.62′′'', the first system of a quasar lensed by a galaxy cluster with five multiple images. Incorporating the latest time-delay measurements, we investigate the lens model dependence from the combination of 16 different lens mass models. We find that the lens model dependence is indeed large, with the combined measurement of the Hubble constant of H0=67.5−8.9+14.5km/s/MpcH_0=67.5^{+14.5}_{-8.9}km/s/Mpc that is obtained by summing posteriors of the Hubble constant from the 16 models with equal weighting. Interestingly, our results show that the value of Hubble constant decreases as the complexity of the perturbation around the lens increases, although weighting based on positional errors of quasar images does not significantly improve the H0H_0 constraint. We find that the 16 different mass models predict largely different shapes of the lensed quasar host galaxy as well as other lensed galaxies behind the cluster. By selecting two mass models that best reproduces those shapes, the constraint on the Hubble constant is significantly tightened to H0=59.1−3.5+3.6km/s/MpcH_0=59.1^{+3.6}_{-3.5}km/s/Mpc. While we caution that our analysis still does not fully explore all the possible mass model uncertainty, our results highlight the importance of including as many constraints as possible such as extended shapes of lensed galaxies for obtaining tight constraints on the Hubble constant from cluster-lensed quasar lens systems.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures, 3 tables.     Model-Assisted Probabilistic Safe Adaptive Control With Meta-Bayesian Learning

    Breaking safety constraints in control systems can lead to potential risks, resulting in unexpected costs or catastrophic damage. Nevertheless, uncertainty is ubiquitous, even among similar tasks. In this paper, we develop a novel adaptive safe control framework that integrates meta learning, Bayesian models, and control barrier function (CBF) method. Specifically, with the help of CBF method, we learn the inherent and external uncertainties by a unified adaptive Bayesian linear regression (ABLR) model, which consists of a forward neural network (NN) and a Bayesian output layer. Meta learning techniques are leveraged to pre-train the NN weights and priors of the ABLR model using data collected from historical similar tasks. For a new control task, we refine the meta-learned models using a few samples, and introduce pessimistic confidence bounds into CBF constraints to ensure safe control. Moreover, we provide theoretical criteria to guarantee probabilistic safety during the control processes. To validate our approach, we conduct comparative experiments in various obstacle avoidance scenarios. The results demonstrate that our algorithm significantly improves the Bayesian model-based CBF method, and is capable for efficient safe exploration even with multiple uncertain constraints

    Protective effect of Wuling mycelia, alone and in combination with valproic acid, on pentylenetetrazolinduced epilepsy in rats

    Purpose: To determine the inhibitory effects of Wuling mycelia, alone and in combination with valproic acid (VPA) on pentylenetetrazol (PTZ)-induced epileptic seizure in rats, and their protective effects on cognitive impairment.Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into five groups: control (sham), model, Wuling mycelia, VPA and combination groups. Rats in Wuling mycelia group were given oral Wuling mycelia alone at a dose of 594 mg/kg, while those in VPA group were given oral VPA alone at a dose of 189 mg/kg. In the combination group, rats received oral VPA at a dose of 189 mg/kg co-administered with Wuling mycelia at a dose of 594 mg/kg. One hour after the treatments, the control group was injected with physiological saline intraperitoneally, while the other four groups were injected with PTZ solution once a day for 28 days. Subsequently, seizure intensity, cognitive impairment, neuronal loss and hippocampal expressions of IL-1β, NF-ĸB/p65 and TLR4 were determine in all groups.Results: Combined use of Wuling mycelium and VPA significantly reduced the frequency and the grade of seizures (p <0.01), and also decreased the degree of cognitive impairment (p <0.05). There were marked increases in neuronal damage and hippocampal  expression levels of NF-ĸB/p65, TLR4 and IL1β (inflammatory cytokines) in the model group (p < 0.05). However, these changes were  reversed in the combination treatment group (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Wuling mycelia is a potentially effective adjunct drug for the treatment of refractory epilepsy. The underlying mechanism might involve downregulations of NF-ĸB/p65, TLR4 and IL-1β.
