    Business strategy and performance in Indonesia’s service sector

    © 2016, © Emerald Group Publishing Limited. PurposeThe relationship between strategic choices and performance in service firms in emerging markets has remained largely under-researched. This study aims to address this issue by studying the performance of financial institutions in the context of Indonesia’s political, institutional and socio-cultural environment. Design/methodology/approachUsing institutional theory, the authors analyzed data collected using surveys and interviews with senior managers in Indonesian financial institutions. FindingsThe authors find that the regulative and normative elements have forced organizations to incorporate the values set by the external institutional bodies. The organizations have undertaken structural isomorphism in response to culture-cognitive elements, and differentiate themselves by focusing on the provision of quality customer service and enhanced customer satisfaction. Originality/valueThe authors provide new insights by studying how the political and institutional environment and choice of strategy influences performance of the services sector in emerging economies

    Tujuan Penelitian – Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh dari karakteristik biografis terhadap kepuasan kerja dan kinerja individual serta apakah kepuasan kerja mampu menjadi variabel mediasi antara karakteristik biografis dengan kinerja individual.Desain/Metodologi/Pendekatan – Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kausalitas dan data yang digunakan adalah data kuantitatif. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan kuesioner dengan jumlah sampel 220 orang. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis jalur.Temuan – 1) Tidak ada pengaruh karakteristik biografis terhadap kinerja individual, 2) Ada pengaruh karakteristik biografis dan kepuasan kerja secara bersama-sama terhadap kinerja individual, dan 3) Kepuasan kerja mampu menjadi variabel mediasi (intervening) antara karakteristik biografis dan kinerja individual dosen.Keterbatasan Penelitian – Untuk penelitian selanjutnya dapat ditambahkan variabel lainnya seperti karakteristik pekerjaan dan karakteristik organisasi

    The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of competence and job design partially or simultaneously and which variables are more dominant effect on the performance of employees of the Dentistry Department of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This study used a survey method with descriptive approach. Subjects in this study were all employees of the Dentistry Department of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang as many as 36 people. The results showed that the competence (X1) and job design (X2) partially (t-test) have a positive influence on employee performance (Y) Dentistry Department of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This is indicated by the value of each thitung > ttable and probability value < level of significance. Simultaneous test results (F test) showed that the competence and job design simultaneously positive effect on the performance of employees of the Dentistry Department of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang with R value of 0.924, which means very strong. The independent variable which gives a more dominant effect on performance, namely competence (X1). This shows that the better their competence will better the performance of the resulting employee Dentistry Department of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang

    Pengaruh Kepuasan Kerja dan Budaya Organisasi terhadap Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) di PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang (Kasus di Divisi Teknologi)

    This study aimed to determine the effect of job satisfaction and organizational culture on Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) of the employees in PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang and it takes the case in Division of Technology. Luthans stated that there are several dimensions determining job satisfaction, those are job itself, salary, supevision, co-workers, and working conditions. Meanwhile, according to Robbin, there are seven characteristics of organizational culture, those are innovation and risk taking, attention to detail, outcome orientation, team orientation, aggresiveness and stability. The determination of number of respondents in this study uses a stratified random sampling method in Technical Inspection Department, Production Planning and Controling Department, Safety and Environment Department and Laboratory Department. The calculation of the sample size is based on Slovin formula and it gets a total sample of 66 employees. The result of this study shows that job satisfaction do not have a significant effect on OCB. While organizational culture significantly has positive effect on OCB. Job satisfaction and organizational culture simultantly has effect on OCB with organizational culture is the dominant variable

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan dan membuktikan pengaruh dari keadilan kompensasi dan kepuasan kompensasi baik secara parsial maupun secara simultan terhadap kinerja karyawan pada UMKM pembuatan pempek Palembang. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah riset deskriptif kausalitas dan data yang digunakan merupakan data kuantitatif. Berdasarkan sumbernya, data dalam penelitian ini merupakan data primer yang didapatkan langsung dari responden. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan kuesioner yang terlebih dahulu diuji kelayakannya dengan uji validitas dan uji reliabilitas. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah karyawan yang bekerja pada UMKM pembuatan pempek Palembang, baik karyawan bagian produksi maupun karyawan yang memasarkan produk pempek. Teknik pengambilan sampel dengan menggunakan Purposive Sampling. Banyaknya sampel yang digunakan sebanyak 100 orang karyawan. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis deskriptif dan analisis regresi linier berganda. Hasil yang didapat dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) keadilan kompensasi tidak berpengaruh terhadap kinerja karyawan, (2) kepuasan kompensasi berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja karyawan, (3) terdapat pengaruh secara bersama-sama antara keadilan kompensasi dan kepuasan kompensasi terhadap kinerja karyawan

    Analysis The Effect Of Enviromental Concern And Green Advertising To Green Purchasing In Palembang City

    This study aims to determine the effect of environmental concern and green advertising to consumer behavior in purchasing green products (environmentally friendly bag). The study was conducted by distributing questionnaires to 200 respondents which already have purchase and know about new government regulations that require to buy a plastic bag that used in large retail. This study conducted in some major retail in Palembang (Hypermart, Diamond, and Carrefour). This study uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with AMOS program to analyze the data. The results showed that green advertising significantly influence behavior change and environmental concerns significantly influence purchase decisions with the effect of changes in consumer behavior on purchasing decisions by 74.0 % and the balance of 26.0 % is the influence of other factors not examined in this research

    Organizational learning, innovativeness and performance of financial service firms in an emerging market: Examining the mediation effect of customer-focused strategy

    Purpose -- The study investigates the extent to which organizational learning and innovativeness can improve the firms' performance through a customer-focused strategy. Design/methodology/approach – Data was collected from Indonesian financial service firms using a questionnaire-based survey. The 157 usable survey responses were analyzed to test the proposed hypotheses using SmartPLS. Findings – This study finds that both organizational learning and innovativeness have a positive effect on performance. The effect of organizational learning on performance depends on the variations of the customer-focused strategy. However, innovativeness does not mediate through customer-focused strategy to enhance performance. Theoretical implications -- As one of the types of dynamic capabilities, organizational learning and innovativeness are also important antecedents of performance. Practical implications -- In firms that implement business model innovation, managers should focus on resource flexibility. Where it is responsive, managers need to be concerned with ensuring various usage of existing resources to understand the performance effectively. Originality/value -- This study extends the business innovation model from the adaptability of customer-focused strategy. The findings confirm that organizational learning has a prominent role in meeting customer needs for a dynamic market
