Trimming of a Migrated Biliary Nitinol Stent Using Argon Plasma
Metallic stent migration is a well-known complication which cannot always be managed by removal or repositioning, especially in case of uncovered stent. We report a patient who developed obstructive jaundice due to migration of an expandable metallic stent (EMS) inserted in the lower bile duct. Trimming of the EMS using argon plasma was performed, with the power setting of 60 W and 2.0 l/min of argon flow. The distal part of the EMS was removed and mechanical cleaning using balloon catheter was performed for remnant EMS. Without additional stent insertion, jaundice was relieved in a few days. No complication was recognized during the procedure and no recurrence of jaundice in the rest of his life
Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam Survey for An Optical Counterpart of GW170817
We perform a -band survey for an optical counterpart of a binary neutron
star coalescence GW170817 with Subaru/Hyper Suprime-Cam. Our untargeted
transient search covers deg corresponding to the credible
region of GW170817 and reaches the completeness magnitude of mag
on average. As a result, we find 60 candidates of extragalactic transients,
including J-GEM17btc (a.k.a. SSS17a/DLT17ck). While J-GEM17btc is associated
with NGC 4993 that is firmly located inside the 3D skymap of GW170817, the
other 59 candidates do not have distance information in the GLADE v2 catalog or
NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (NED). Among 59 candidates, 58 are located at
the center of extended objects in the Pan-STARRS1 catalog, while one candidate
has an offset. We present location, -band apparent magnitude, and time
variability of the candidates and evaluate the probabilities that they are
located inside of the 3D skymap of GW170817. The probability for J-GEM17btc is
being much higher than those for the other 59 candidates
(). Furthermore, the possibility, that at
least one of the other 59 candidates is located within the 3D skymap, is only
. Therefore, we conclude that J-GEM17btc is the most-likely and
distinguished candidate as the optical counterpart of GW170817.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures. Accepted for publication in PASJ (Publications

C9orf72-derived arginine-rich poly-dipeptides impede phase modifiers
Nuclear import receptors (NIRs) not only transport RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) but also modify phase transitions of RBPs by recognizing nuclear localization signals (NLSs). Toxic arginine-rich poly-dipeptides from C9orf72 interact with NIRs and cause nucleocytoplasmic transport deficit. However, the molecular basis for the toxicity of arginine-rich poly-dipeptides toward NIRs function as phase modifiers of RBPs remains unidentified. Here we show that arginine-rich poly-dipeptides impede the ability of NIRs to modify phase transitions of RBPs. Isothermal titration calorimetry and size-exclusion chromatography revealed that proline:arginine (PR) poly-dipeptides tightly bind karyopherin-Ī²2 (KapĪ²2) at 1:1 ratio. The nuclear magnetic resonances of KapĪ²2 perturbed by PR poly-dipeptides partially overlapped with those perturbed by the designed NLS peptide, suggesting that PR poly-dipeptides target the NLS binding site of KapĪ²2. The findings offer mechanistic insights into how phase transitions of RBPs are disabled in C9orf72-related neurodegeneration

Verb arguments in Japanese picture books
Previous experiments have demonstrated that Japanese children can use the number of arguments and the case markers tolearn novel verbs. However, these cues are mostly omitted in child-directed speech. We revisit this gap between the abilityof children to use syntactic cues and the deficiency of such input by examining a different mode of input in the form ofpicture books. We built a Japanese picture book predicate-argument structure corpus containing annotations of predicate-argument structure and non-linguistic information. The analyses show that Japanese picture books contain more overtarguments and accusative case markers, and that these cues have significant influence on the prediction of verb transitivity. In addition, this study demonstrates that non-linguistic information (animacy and the numbers of potential referents) couldhelp predict transitivity if learners are able to use these cues to infer the presence of null arguments
FILLING THE GAPS BETWEEN TOOLS AND USERS: A TOOL COMPARATOR, USING PROTEIN-PROTEIN INTERACTION AS AN EXAMPLE
Recently, several text mining programs have reached a near-practical level of performance. Some systems are already being used by biologists and database curators. However, it has also been recognized that current Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Text Mining (TM) technology is not easy to deploy, since research groups tend to develop systems that cater specifically to their own requirements. One of the major reasons for the difficulty of deployment of NLP/TM technology is that re-usability and interoperability of software tools are typically not considered during development. While some effort has been invested in making interoperable NLP/TM toolkits, the developers of end-to-end systems still often struggle to reuse NLP/TM tools, and often opt to develop similar programs from scratch instead. This is particularly the case in BioNLP, since the requirements of biologists are so diverse that NLP tools have to be adapted and re-organized in a much more extensive manner than was originally expected. Although generic frameworks like UIMA (Unstructured Information Management Architecture) provide promising ways to solve this problem, the solution that they provide is only partial. In order for truly interoperable toolkits to become a reality, we also need sharable type systems and a developer-friendly environment for software integration that includes functionality for systematic comparisons of available tools, a simple I/O interface, and visualization tools. In this paper, we describe such an environment that was developed based on UIMA, and we show its feasibility through our experience in developing a protein-protein interaction (PPI) extraction system
