    Attitude, Knowledge, and Practice on Evidence-Based Nursing among Registered Nurses in Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospitals: A Multiple Center Cross-Sectional Survey in China

    Objective. This study was to describe RNs’ attitude, knowledge, and practice on evidence-based practice (EBP) in traditional Chinese nursing field and to estimate the related sociodemographic and professional factors. Methods. A multiple institutional cross-sectional survey design with self-reported EBP Questionnaire (EBPQ) and self-designed questionnaires were used. Results. The average scores of the total EBPQ were with a mean of 4.24 (SD = 0.79). The score of attitude was the highest one, followed by the knowledge score, and the lowest one is practice. RNs with longer experience reported stronger EBP knowledge (H=6.64, P<0.05). And RNs under higher working pressure reported less positive attitudes (ρ=0.17, P<0.001), whereas RNs holding negative professional attitude reported lower scores (Spearman’s ρ: 0.12 to 0.15, P<0.001). Significant statistics were found between RNs with research experience and without in attitude (t=-2.40, P<0.05) and knowledge (t=-2.43, P<0.05). Conclusions. Respondents generally viewed EBP positively and their attitudes towards EBP tended to be more positive than knowledge and practice of EBP. Data also showed that longer working experience, having administrative position, research experience, lighter working load, and better professional attitude might facilitate EBP

    The Research on Establishment of “Clinical Practice Guide of Blood Specimen Collection, Preservation and Delivery for Clinical Nurse”: Protocol Description

    INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: The correctness of the blood test is closely related to the sample. According to the recent reported data, 80 percentage unsatisfactory results of the clinical test are due to the poor quality of sample, especially the blood sample. Clinical practice guide (CPG) is directly to instruct the clinical nursing practice. And the recommendations in the clinical practice guide are based on the best available study evidences. There is lack of CPG about blood sample specimen collection, preservation and delivery (BSCPD) in China. Additionally, related published clinical studies are accumulated in a great deal. Therefore, establishing a CPG is necessarily and practicable. The detailed objectives are: 1) to describe and analyze the research status of BSCPD in China; 2) to describe and analyze the practice status of BSCPD in China; 3) to systematic appraise the available evidences of BSCPD; 4) to establish the clinical practice guide of BSCPD; 5) to judge the clinical practice guide of BSCPD. METHODS: Objective 1): Bibliometric analysis is applied, the database include China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database (CNKI) and Sino-med and the research period is from the year of 2003 to 2013; Objective 2): Questionnaire survey for all the registered clinical nurses in a grade three hospital; objective 3): Systematic review according to Cochrane collaboration handbook 5.1.0 is applied which includes assessment of risk of bias, data extraction, data analysis; Objective 4) and 5): Using the appraising guidelines research and evaluation (AGREE) to evaluate of the draft of CPG of BSCPD. RESULTS: Bibliometric analysis started in 2013, and search strategies have been established. Questionnaire survey setting and depth interviewees have been identified and communicated. CONCLUSIONS: The CPG of BSCPD will serve as an important resource in instructing and modifying clinical nursing practice. Given this CPG of BSCPD will be a draft version, the applicability and suitability of it will need a further evaluated in the real clinical nursing world

    Co2N nanoparticles embedded N-doped mesoporous carbon as efficient electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction

    Co-N-C electrocatalysts have attracted great attention in electrocatalytic ORR (oxygen reduction reaction) field. In this work, we propose to prepare Co 2 N nanoparticles embedded N-doped mesoporous carbon by a facile method including in situ copolymerization and pyrolysis under NH 3 atmosphere. The results show that more N atoms can be doped in carbon framework by NH 3 pyrolysis, it is also found that pyrolysis temperature and Co content can influence the ORR performance of samples. The sample prepared by adding Co precursor and pyrolysis at 700 °C has high N content (11.86 at.%) and relative large specific surface area (362 m 2 g −1 ), and it also exhibited superior electrocatalytic ORR performance in terms of E onset (−0.038 V vs. SCE), E 1/2 (−0.126 V vs. SCE) and large current density (5.22 mA cm −2 ). Additionally, the sample also shows better stability and resistance to methanol poisoning than Pt/C catalyst. The synergistic effect of Co-N active centers and hierarchical porous structures contribute the excellent electrocatalytic activity, which are considering as alternative catalysts for ORR in full cells

    Resilience-based multifactorial model of depression among people who lost an only-child in China

    Objective: There are almost one million families who lost their only child in China, and 65.6% of them had severe and long lasting depression and needed timely psychointervention. This study aims to explore the relationship among resilience and its influential factors, and to compare their effect on depression. Methods: A total of 212 only-child loss person in 9 administrative regions in Changsha were assessed by using Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Zung Self-rating Depression Scale, Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, Simplified Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, Social Support Rating Scale, and General Self-efficacy Scale. A hypothetical model was tested based on Kumpfer resilience framework and stress-coping theory. Results: The influential factors of resilience were: positive coping (the total effect value was 0.480), support utilization (the total effect value was 0.359), neuroticism (the total effect value was -0.326), negative coping (the total effect value was 0.279), extraversion (the total effect value was 0.219), and objective support (the total effect value was 0.077). The process of individual-environment interaction showed a greater impact on resilience, which had a direct effect on depression (the total effect value was −0.344, 67.1%), and also indirect effect through self-efficacy (the total effect value was −0.169). The total effect of resilience accounted for 20.1% of the total effect of all variables. Conclusion: Resilience mainly impacts depression directly, and can negatively predict depression in only-child loss parents. Resilience, located before self-efficacy, is a significant stress mediating variables. Personality traits and support utilization indirectly impact resilience via negative and positive coping. The key to promote the reorganization of resilience is the process of individual-environmental interaction, involving support utilization, positive coping, and some sorts of negative coping strategies, which plays an important role in developing a resilience intervention program and can improve the depression of the only-child loss person

    Hedging Long-Term Exposures of a Well-Diversified Portfolio with Short-Term Stock Index Futures Contracts

    It is difficult for passive portfolio strategy to manage the long-term exposure of a well-diversified portfolio because stock index futures contracts have a finite life limited by their maturity. In this paper, we investigate the problem of the rollover hedge strategy for the long-term exposure of a well-diversified portfolio. First, we consider the rollover hedge strategy for the well-diversified portfolio when the portfolio is not adjusted during the period. In order to obtain the optimal solution of the proposed model, the auxiliary models are constructed using the equivalent transformation technique. Moreover, dynamic programming is employed to derive the optimal positions of stock index futures contracts for the long-term exposure of the well-diversified portfolio. In addition, we extend the result to the case of the rollover hedge strategy with transaction costs and derive the optimal number of stock index futures contracts

    A Cotton-Fiber-Associated Cyclin-Dependent Kinase A Gene: Characterization and Chromosomal Location

    A cotton fiber cDNA and its genomic sequences encoding an A-type cyclin-dependent kinase (GhCDKA) were cloned and characterized. The encoded GhCDKA protein contains the conserved cyclin-binding, ATP binding, and catalytic domains. Northern blot and RT-PCR analysis revealed that the GhCDKA transcript was high in 5–10 DPA fibers, moderate in 15 and 20 DPA fibers and roots, and low in flowers and leaves. GhCDKA protein levels in fibers increased from 5–15 DPA, peaked at 15 DPA, and decreased from 15 t0 20 DPA. The differential expression of GhCDKA suggested that the gene might play an important role in fiber development. The GhCDKA sequence data was used to develop single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers specific for the CDKA gene in cotton. A primer specific to one of the SNPs was used to locate the CDKA gene to chromosome 16 by deletion analysis using a series of hypoaneuploid interspecific hybrids

    CRISPR/Cas12a-based approaches for efficient and accurate detection of Phytophthora ramorum

    IntroductionPhytophthora ramorum is a quarantine pathogen that causes leaf blight and shoot dieback of the crown, bark cankers and death on a number of both ornamental and forest trees, especially in North America and northern Europe, where it has produced severe outbreaks. Symptoms caused by P. ramorum can be confused with those by other Phytophthora and fungal species. Early and accurate detection of the causal pathogen P. ramorum is crucial for effective prevention and control of Sudden Oak Death.MethodsIn this study, we developed a P. ramorum detection technique based on a combination of recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) with CRISPR/Cas12a technology (termed RPACRISPR/ Cas12a).ResultsThis novel method can be utilized for the molecular identification of P. ramorum under UV light and readout coming from fluorophores, and can specifically detect P. ramorum at DNA concentrations as low as 100 pg within 25 min at 37°C.DiscussionWe have developed a simple, rapid, sensitive, unaided-eye visualization, RPA CRISPR/Cas12a-based detection system for the molecular identification of P. ramorum that does not require technical expertise or expensive ancillary equipment. And this system is sensitive for both standard laboratory samples and samples from the field

    Quantitative transcription factor binding kinetics at the single-molecule level

    We have investigated the binding interaction between the bacteriophage lambda repressor CI and its target DNA using total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy. Large, step-wise changes in the intensity of the red fluorescent protein fused to CI were observed as it associated and dissociated from individually labeled single molecule DNA targets. The stochastic association and dissociation were characterized by Poisson statistics. Dark and bright intervals were measured for thousands of individual events. The exponential distribution of the intervals allowed direct determination of the association and dissociation rate constants, ka and kd respectively. We resolved in detail how ka and kd varied as a function of 3 control parameters, the DNA length L, the CI dimer concentration, and the binding affinity. Our results show that although interaction with non-operator DNA sequences are observable, CI binding to the operator site is not dependent on the length of flanking non-operator DNA.Comment: 34 pages, 10 figures, accepted by Biophysical Journa

    An intelligent neural stem cell delivery system for neurodegenerative diseases treatment

    Transplanted stem cells constitute a new therapeutic strategy for the treatment of neurological disorders. Emerging evidence indicates that a negative microenvironment, particularly one characterized by the acute inflammation/immune response caused by physical injuries or transplanted stem cells, severely impacts the survival of transplanted stem cells. In this study, to avoid the influence of the increased inflammation following physical injuries, an intelligent, double‐layer, alginate hydrogel system is designed. This system fosters the matrix metalloproeinases (MMP) secreted by transplanted stem cell reactions with MMP peptide grafted on the inner layer and destroys the structure of the inner hydrogel layer during the inflammatory storm. Meanwhile, the optimum concentration of the arginine‐glycine‐aspartate (RGD) peptide is also immobilized to the inner hydrogels to obtain more stem cells before arriving to the outer hydrogel layer. It is found that blocking Cripto‐1, which promotes embryonic stem cell differentiation to dopamine neurons, also accelerates this process in neural stem cells. More interesting is the fact that neural stem cell differentiation can be conducted in astrocyte‐differentiation medium without other treatments. In addition, the system can be adjusted according to the different parameters of transplanted stem cells and can expand on the clinical application of stem cells in the treatment of this neurological disorder
