Gauge Family Model and New Symmetry Breaking Scale From FCNC Processes
Based on the gauge family symmetry model which was proposed to
explain the observed mass and mixing pattern of neutrinos, we investigate the
symmetry breaking, the mixing pattern in quark and lepton sectors, and the
contribution of the new gauge bosons to some flavour changing neutral currents
(FCNC) processes at low energy. With the current data of the mass differences
in the neutral pseudo-scalar systems, we find that the
symmetry breaking scale can be as low as 300TeV and the mass of the
lightest gauge boson be about TeV. Other FCNC processes, such as the
lepton flavour number violation process
and the semi-leptonic rare decay , contain
contributions via the new gauge bosons exchanging. With the constrains got from
system, we estimate that the contribution of the new physics is
around , far below the current experimental bounds.Comment: 3figure
An Analysis on Chinese EFL Learners’ Understanding of “Direct Object/Subject” Garden Path Sentences
The current study probes into the comprehension of “DO/S” GP sentences by Chinese EFL learners with different language proficiencies. 70 questionnaires are obtained. The results show that 60% triggering condition is not reached in high language proficiency group and no GP ambiguity is found, whereas the GP ambiguity is found and eliminated by low-proficiency group. And the level of language proficiency influences the emergence of GD phenomenon (x2=12.570, p=.000<.05). The Q&A test reveals the residual of the initial misunderstanding among learners. Although the 60% triggering condition is not reached, we find that the comprehension ability differs significantly between the two groups based on the scores of their answers (p=.004<.05). It can be safely concluded that the L2 proficiency will affect learners’ comprehension of “DO/S” GP sentences. The higher L2 proficiency learners gain, the more likely they may eliminate the ambiguation of GP sentences and there will be less residual of misunderstanding
An Analysis of Explicit Subjective Modality Metaphors in Discussion Section of Linguistics Research Articles
Based on Halliday s theory of Grammatical Metaphor in Systematic Functional Linguistics SFL this paper delves into the distribution features as well as interpersonal meanings of modality metaphor in discussion section of Linguistics Research Articles RAs The discussion sections of 60 RAs in Applied Linguistics 2016-2020 were selected and the classification of explicit subjective modality metaphor from Halliday Matthiessen Huang and Fan was adopted in current study The results show that epistemic modality metaphors take up the highest proportion in explicit subjective modality metaphor 84 8 followed by boulomaic evaluative and evidential modality metaphors The reasons for this discrepancy are explained from the scientificity and objectivity of academic discourse and the multiple interpersonal meanings of epistemic modality in terms of raising different or supplementary viewpoints in a conciliatory way and strengthening negotiation between writers and reader
