A Novel Filled Function Method for Nonlinear Equations

    Get PDF
A novel filled function method is suggested for solving box-constrained systems of nonlinear equations. Firstly, the original problem is converted into an equivalent global optimization problem. Subsequently, a novel filled function with one parameter is proposed for solving the converted global optimization problem. Some properties of the filled function are studied and discussed. Finally, an algorithm based on the proposed novel filled function for solving systems of nonlinear equations is presented. The objective function value can be reduced by quarter in each iteration of our algorithm. The implementation of the algorithm on several test problems is reported with satisfactory numerical results

Chinese Herbal Medicine and Its Application for Female Cancer

    Get PDF
Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs) have been widely used to promote health and treat illnesses in daily medical care throughout Asia while mostly accepted as an alternative medical method in many nations of the western world. CHM has a unique therapeutic effect to reduce adverse effects on cancer patients caused by chemotherapy and surgery; however, we did not find any high-quality review for the claimed effects. In this review, we will summarize the history, basic theories and principles, and clinical applications of CHM for disorders, especially female cancers. Meta-analyses to evaluate the efficacy and safety of CHM in the treatment of ovarian cancer and breast cancer have been conducted. The results showed that combined CHMs and western medicines treatment (CHM-WM) had significantly relieved the symptoms and reduced the side effects after surgery and chemotherapy on both ovarian cancer and breast cancer. However, more high-quality and large-scale RCTs are necessary to confirm the efficacy and safety of CHM-WM intervention

Frequent alterations in cytoskeleton remodelling genes in primary and metastatic lung adenocarcinomas

The landscape of genetic alterations in lung adenocarcinoma derived from Asian patients is largely uncharacterized. Here we present an integrated genomic and transcriptomic analysis of 335 primary lung adenocarcinomas and 35 corresponding lymph node metastases from Chinese patients. Altogether 13 significantly mutated genes are identified, including the most commonly mutated gene TP53 and novel mutation targets such as RHPN2, GLI3 and MRC2. TP53 mutations are furthermore significantly enriched in tumours from patients harbouring metastases. Genes regulating cytoskeleton remodelling processes are also frequently altered, especially in metastatic samples, of which the high expression level of IQGAP3 is identified as a marker for poor prognosis. Our study represents the first large-scale sequencing effort on lung adenocarcinoma in Asian patients and provides a comprehensive mutational landscape for both primary and metastatic tumours. This may thus form a basis for personalized medical care and shed light on the molecular pathogenesis of metastatic lung adenocarcinoma

Statistical analysis of error patterns in block ciphered crypto-system

In the presence of channel errors, the error pattern in decrypted plaintexts in block-ciphered systems demonstrates certain burst features. In this paper, we provide a rigorous study of error properties of block-ciphered cryptosystems operating in either ECB or CFB mode. By analyzing the relationship between bits within and across adjacent output blocks, we obtain the resulting equivalent channel transitional probabilities for each case. Our statistical characterization of the underlying burst patterns is of great importance to designing powerful error correcting codes that can enhance a legitimate system\u27s throughput under channel distortions. © 2011 IEEE

Over the past few decades, owing to their unique functional properties such as physical, chemical, optical and electronic properties, spinel materials have attracted significant scientific attention in heterogeneous photocatalyst research. Here, we review the main fundamental understanding of the correlations between the performance of spinel structures and their particle shape, size, chemical composition, and photo-Fenton reactions for photocatalytic applications; these include photocatalytic dye degradation for environmental remediation, photocatalytic hydrogen generation, CO2 reduction and photoelectrochemical water splitting. In addition, the key factors and essential strategies to improve their performance and functionality are discussed in detail. Future research pathways and perspectives on the progress of these high performance and cost effective renewable energy materials are provided, along with the improvements in material properties that are necessary to replace current commercial energy materials. It is envisioned that further investigations should focus on surface modification, integrating conductive matrixes and regulating the spinel composition, which will make spinels promising photocatalysts
