Experimental Study of the Effect of External Signal on Microwave Oscillations in a Nonrelativistic Electron Beam with Virtual Cathode

    Get PDF
The effect of an external harmonic signal on the characteristics of microwave generation in a nonrelativistic electron beam with virtual cathode (VC) formed in a static retarding electric field (low-voltage vircator system) has been experimentally studied. A significant increase in the vircator generation power is observed when the frequency of the external signal is close to the frequency of VC oscillations. At large detunings, a broadband chaotic generation is observed.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figure

Investigation of the Chaotic Dynamics of an Electron Beam with a Virtual Cathode in an External Magnetic Field

The effect of the strength of the focusing magnetic field on chaotic dynamic processes occurring inan electron beam with a virtual cathode, as well as on the processes whereby the structures form in the beamand interact with each other, is studied by means of two-dimensional numerical simulations based on solving a self-consistent set of Vlasov-Maxwell equations. It is shown that, as the focusing magnetic field is decreased, the dynamics of an electron beam with a virtual cathode becomes more complicated due to the formation andinteraction of spatio-temporal longitudinal and transverse structures in the interaction region of a vircator. The optimum efficiency of the interaction of an electron beam with the electromagnetic field of the vircator isachieved at a comparatively weak external magnetic field and is determined by the fundamentally two-dimensional nature of the motion of the beam electrons near the virtual cathode.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figure

© 2018, © 2018 Taylor & Francis. A library of 29 2-amino-6-sulfanylpyridine-3,5-dicarbonitriles functionalized with a pyridoxine moiety was synthesized using a three-component one-pot reaction of aldehyde derivative of pyridoxine, malononitrile, and thiophenol. The obtained bipyridine structures were converted into methylpyridinium salts. Several compounds demonstrated expressed antibacterial activity with MICs (minimum inhibitory concentrations) in the range of 0.5–4 µg/mL against the three studied Gram-positive strains and 8–64 µg/mL against the Gram-negative E. coli strain, which was comparable or better than the activity of the reference antimicrobial agents. At the same time, all the synthesized compounds were inactive against the Gram-negative P. aeruginosa. Several compounds also demonstrated high cytotoxic activity against the studied tumor cells, but without selectivity for the normal HSF (human foreskin fibroblast) cells. Despite the preliminary character of the performed biological studies, the obtained results make the obtained structural chemotype a promising starting point for the design of physiologically active compounds

The cross section for the process e+eπ+πe^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^- is measured in the c.m. energy range 1.04-1.38 GeV from 995 000 selected collinear events including 860000 e+ee^+e^- events, 82000 μ+μ\mu^+\mu^- events, and 33000 π+π\pi^+\pi^- events. The systematic and statistical errors of measuring the pion form factor are equal to 1.2-4.2 and 5-13%, respectively.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

The form factors of the decay K+ --> pi0 e+ nu (K_e3) have been determined from the comparison of the experimental and Monte Carlo Dalitz distributions containing about 10^5 K_e3 events. The following values of the parameters were obtained: lambda_+ = 0.0278 +- 0.0017(stat) +- 0.0015(syst), f_S/f_+(0) = 0.0040 +- 0.0160(stat) +- 0.0067(syst) and f_T/f_+(0) = 0.019 +- 0.080(stat) +- 0.038(syst). Both scalar f_S and tensor f_T form factors are consistent with the Standard Model predictions of zero values.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, contributed to the proceedings of NANP Conference, Dubna, June 19-23, 200

Combined Decision Techniques for the Existential Theory of the Reals

Methods for deciding quantifier-free non-linear arithmetical conjectures over *** are crucial in the formal verification of many real-world systems and in formalised mathematics. While non-linear (rational function) arithmetic over *** is decidable, it is fundamentally infeasible: any general decision method for this problem is worst-case exponential in the dimension (number of variables) of the formula being analysed. This is unfortunate, as many practical applications of real algebraic decision methods require reasoning about high-dimensional conjectures. Despite their inherent infeasibility, a number of different decision methods have been developed, most of which have "sweet spots" --- e.g., types of problems for which they perform much better than they do in general. Such "sweet spots" can in many cases be heuristically combined to solve problems that are out of reach of the individual decision methods when used in isolation. RAHD ("Real Algebra in High Dimensions") is a theorem prover that works to combine a collection of real algebraic decision methods in ways that exploit their respective "sweet-spots." We discuss high-level mathematical and design aspects of RAHD and illustrate its use on a number of examples

Reviewed are the lessons learned from cooperation between Rospotrebnadzor institutions in the provision of epidemiological welfare on plague under aggravation of epizootic situation in the territory of the Pre-Caspian sandy natural plague focus in 2014. Plague control measures combined epizootiological and epidemiological monitoring, specific and non-specific prophylaxis, training activities for medical and veterinary officers, instructional advice for medical facilities on matters of infection prevention, and sensitization campaign. Furthermore, vaccinated against plague were 4460 people, field disinsection over 50.5 km2 area was performed, as well as field deratization - 89.4 km2, township disinsection - 257.3 thous. m2, and township deratization - 329.1 thous. m2. Financial expenses on prophylactic (anti-epidemic) activities amounted to 23265.8 thousand rubles. Outlined was viability of preventive planning and prophylactic measures in the territories with forecasted aggravation of epizootic situation in natural plague foci of the Russian Federation

. Isolated were 128 plague agent strains: from rodents and lagomorphs - 24, 103 - from bloodsucking arthropods. One strain was obtained from a patient in the territory of Gorno-Altaisk high-mountain natural plague focus. Substantiated has been epizootiological prognosis claiming persistent challenging epidemiological situation in the foci. Outlined is the necessity to use epizootiological forecasting as the basis for scheduling and carrying out epidemiological monitoring and preventive measures in active natural plague foci. Due to the varying epidemiological significance of Y. pestis ssp. pestis , Y. pestis ssp. caucasica , and Y. pestis ssp. altaica strains the data on their spatial distribution should be deployed for differentiation of focal areas according to the degree of the potential epidemic hazard

Consolidation of the efforts in implementation of epidemiological surveillance and control over plague and other dangerous natural-focal infections is an essential aspect in ensuring epidemiological well-being as regards particularly dangerous infectious diseases in the territory of natural plague foci and potentially focal territories located within the borders of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan. The aim of the work was to carry out a joint epizootiological survey of the transboundary territories of the Volga-Ural sandy natural plague focus and the territory of the East Kazakhstan region of the Republic of Kazakhstan (RK) potentially focal for plague over the period of 2019–2022. Materials and methods. Samples of field materials, collected during the epizootiological survey of the territory of Kazakhstan, were studied using bacteriological, molecular-genetic, and immune-serological methods. Results and discussion. We have obtained the current evidence on the spatial-biocenotic structure, the circulation of pathogens of dangerous natural-focal infectious diseases in the transboundary territories of Eastern and Western Kazakhstan. It has been established that the conditions that contribute to the possibility of human infection with plague and other dangerous infectious diseases in case of the aggravation of epizootic situation in the foci or importation of the pathogens into the territory are in place
