    SVS-JOIN : efficient spatial visual similarity join for geo-multimedia

    In the big data era, massive amount of multimedia data with geo-tags has been generated and collected by smart devices equipped with mobile communications module and position sensor module. This trend has put forward higher request on large-scale geo-multimedia retrieval. Spatial similarity join is one of the significant problems in the area of spatial database. Previous works focused on spatial textual document search problem, rather than geo-multimedia retrieval. In this paper, we investigate a novel geo-multimedia retrieval paradigm named spatial visual similarity join (SVS-JOIN for short), which aims to search similar geo-image pairs in both aspects of geo-location and visual content. Firstly, the definition of SVS-JOIN is proposed and then we present the geographical similarity and visual similarity measurement. Inspired by the approach for textual similarity join, we develop an algorithm named SVS-JOIN B by combining the PPJOIN algorithm and visual similarity. Besides, an extension of it named SVS-JOIN G is developed, which utilizes spatial grid strategy to improve the search efficiency. To further speed up the search, a novel approach called SVS-JOIN Q is carefully designed, in which a quadtree and a global inverted index are employed. Comprehensive experiments are conducted on two geo-image datasets and the results demonstrate that our solution can address the SVS-JOIN problem effectively and efficiently

    AbstractThis study examined the effect of different negative pressures and soil textures on water and salt movement to improve the efficiency of negative pressure irrigation (NPI). Four soil textures of varying fineness (Loamy Sand, Loam, Silty Loam, and Sandy Loam) and three negative pressure values (0, –5, and –10 kPa) were used. As irrigation time increased, wetting front movement speeds decreased, and as negative pressure increased, wetting front size decreased. Coarse soils had the smallest wetting front under greater negative pressure. Next, water infiltration rate decreased as irrigation time increased, and coarse soils had the lowest average infiltration rate under greater negative pressure. Finally, salt content increased with distance from the irrigation emitter and with increased negative pressure. Further, coarse soils were found to have decreased desalination under greater negative pressure. Thus, soil texture has a strong effect on NPI efficiency. However, by adjusting pressure values in accordance with soil texture, soil water content can be controlled and maintained. These findings are important to the improvement of NPI systems, increasing their practicality for agricultural use

    EFFECTS OF BACKPACK LOADS ON NECK-TRUNK MUSCLE ACTIVATION AMONG OFFICE WORKERS

    The main purposes of this study were to investigate the effect of weight carriage on necktrunk muscle activation during standing and walking among office workers and to compare electromyography activation between healthy and symptomatic office workers. Twenty-one participants were recruited. Three load trials (0%, 10%, and 15% BW) and two conditions (standing and walking) were encountered. Repeated measure ANOVA was used to test main effect of load and condition on kinetic data. There was a significant condition*load interaction on right trapezius. Significantly increasing activation of right abdominis was found as carrying 15% BW. There was a significant decrease on activation of left erector spinae while carrying 10% BW. Considering to electromyography data, we suggest the backpack load under 10% BW was suitable for office workers

    Silver Metallization of Polyimide Surfaces Using EnvironmentallyFriendly Reducing Agents

    Two environmentally friendly reducing agents, ascorbic acid and glucose, were employed to fabricate Ag-thin-film-coated polyimide(PI) films. Ascorbic acid is an acidic reducing agent, whereas glucose is an alkaline reducing agent. Both of these reducing agentsare capable of reducing Ag+ ions doped in poly(amic acid) (PAA) formed by hydrolysis of a PI surface. Only glucose can producea continuous and dense Ag thin film on a PAA surface. Granular and discontinuous Ag thin films were obtained when ascorbic acidwas employed as a reducing agent. This difference in reactivity is attributed to the pH values of these reducing solutions
