P-T phase diagram of a holographic s+p model from Gauss-Bonnet gravity

    Get PDF
In this paper, we study the holographic s+p model in 5-dimensional bulk gravity with the Gauss-Bonnet term. We work in the probe limit and give the Δ\Delta-T phase diagrams at three different values of the Gauss-Bonnet coefficient to show the effect of the Gauss-Bonnet term. We also construct the P-T phase diagrams for the holographic system using two different definitions of the pressure and compare the results.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures, we have added new P-T phase diagrams with the pressure defined in boundary stress-energy tenso

Spin-Orbit Coupled Fermi Gases across a Feshbach Resonance

In this letter we study both ground state properties and the superfluid transition temperature of a spin-1/2 Fermi gas across a Feshbach resonance with a synthetic spin-orbit coupling, using mean-field theory and exact solution of two-body problem. We show that a strong spin-orbit coupling can significantly enhance the pairing gap for 1/(k_F a_s)<=0 due to increased density-of-state. Strong spin-orbit coupling also significantly enhances the superfluid transition temperature when 1/(k_F a_s)<=0, while suppresses it slightly when 1/(k_F a_s)>0. The universal interaction energy and pair size at resonance are also discussed.Comment: 4+3 pages, 4 figures, supplementary material adde

Split degenerate states and stable p+ip phases from holography

In this paper, we investigate the p+iip superfluid phases in the complex vector field holographic p-wave model. We find that in the probe limit, the p+iip phase and the p-wave phase are equally stable, hence the p and iip orders can be mixed with an arbitrary ratio to form more general p+λi\lambda ip phases, which are also equally stable with the p-wave and p+iip phases. As a result, the system possesses a degenerate thermal state in the superfluid region. We further study the case with considering the back reaction on the metric, and find that the degenerate ground states will be separated into p-wave and p+iip phases, and the p-wave phase is more stable. Finally, due to the different critical temperature of the zeroth order phase transitions from p-wave and p+iip phases to the normal phase, there is a temperature region where the p+iip phase exists but the p-wave phase doesn't. In this region we find the stable p+iip phase for the first time.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures; typos correcte

Stability Condition of a Strongly Interacting Boson-Fermion Mixture across an Inter-Species Feshbach Resonance

We study the properties of dilute bosons immersed in a single component Fermi sea across a broad boson-fermion Feshbach resonance. The stability of the mixture requires that the bare interaction between bosons exceeds a critical value, which is a universal function of the boson-fermion scattering length, and exhibits a maximum in the unitary region. We calculate the quantum depletion, momentum distribution and the boson contact parameter across the resonance. The transition from condensate to molecular Fermi gas is also discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Center Symmetric Local Multilevel Pattern Based Descriptor and Its Application in Image Matching

This paper presents an effective local image region description method, called CS-LMP (Center Symmetric Local Multilevel Pattern) descriptor, and its application in image matching. The CS-LMP operator has no exponential computations, so the CS-LMP descriptor can encode the differences of the local intensity values using multiply quantization levels without increasing the dimension of the descriptor. Compared with the binary/ternary pattern based descriptors, the CS-LMP descriptor has better descriptive ability and computational efficiency. Extensive image matching experimental results testified the effectiveness of the proposed CS-LMP descriptor compared with other existing state-of-the-art descriptors

Phase transitions in a holographic s+p model with backreaction

In a previous paper (arXiv:1309.2204, JHEP 1311 (2013) 087), we present a holographic s+p superconductor model with a scalar triplet charged under an SU(2) gauge field in the bulk. We also study the competition and coexistence of the s-wave and p-wave orders in the probe limit. In this work we continue to study the model by considering the full back-reaction The model shows a rich phase structure and various condensate behaviors such as the "n-type" and "u-type" ones, which are also known as reentrant phase transitions in condensed matter physics. The phase transitions to the p-wave phase or s+p coexisting phase become first order in strong back-reaction cases. In these first order phase transitions, the free energy curve always forms a swallow tail shape, in which the unstable s+p solution can also play an important role. The phase diagrams of this model are given in terms of the dimension of the scalar order and the temperature in the cases of eight different values of the back reaction parameter, which show that the region for the s+p coexisting phase is enlarged with a small or medium back reaction parameter, but is reduced in the strong back-reaction cases.Comment: 15 pages(two-column), 9 figure

    γγ→tcˉ+ctˉ\gamma\gamma \to t\bar{c}+c\bar{t} in a supersymmetric theory with an explicit R-parity violation

We studied the process γγ→tcˉ+ctˉ\gamma\gamma \to t\bar{c}+c\bar{t} in a RpR_{p} violating supersymmetric Model with the effects from both B- and L-violating interactions. The calculation shows that it is possible to detect a RpR_{p} violating signal at the Next Linear Collider. Information about the B-violating interaction in this model could be obtained under very clean background, if we take the present upper bounds for the parameters in the supersymmetric /Rp\rlap/ R_{p} interactions. Even if we can not detect a signal of /Rp\rlap/R_{p} in the experiment, we may get more stringent constraints on the heavy-flavor /Rp\rlap/R_{p} couplings.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figure
