    The state of water in Tibetan milk mushroom zooglea with different degrees of hydration (h) was investigated using low-temperature PMR spectroscopy in air and in contact with the hydrophobic media polydimethylsiloxane PDMS-1000 and CHCl3 with added trifl uoroacetic acid (TFA). The maximum hydration of the zooglea amounted to h = 32 g/g (of dry matter). Water existed as polyassociates (clusters or domains) of strongly and weakly associated water. Bound water decomposed into clusters in the presence of TFA. The NMR spectra showed six types of bound water at h = 0.3 g/

    It is proposed to use the novel paradigm of treating cancer with hyperthermic therapy using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) stimulated with near infrared (NIR) irradiation. Aim: To establish the capacity of MWCNT stimulated with NIR irradiation to destroy Erlich ascitic carcinoma (EAC) cells. Materials and Methods: EAC cells suspension was irradiated with NIR heating lamp with a wavelength of 0.78–1.40 mm and power density of 3.5 W/cm2 over 1.5 min in the presence of MWCNT (0.1 mg/ml). The changes in the temperature of suspension with the NIR exposure time was measured using the differential cooper-constantan thermocouple. The viability of EAC cells was evaluated by trypan blue staining. Results: The death of 95.2% of EAC cells in the presence of MWCNT was observed after 1.5 min of NIR light irradiation: thermal ablation temperature was ~50 °C. Conclusions: It was demonstrated that addition of MWCNT to EAC cell suspension results in the photo-ablative destruction of cells exposed to short time NIR irradiation

    Influence of C(60) fullerene on the ischemia-reperfusion injury in the skeletal muscle of rat limb: mechanokinetic and biochemical analysis

    Influence of the pristine C60 fullerene aqueous colloidal solution (C60FAS) on the ischemia-reperfusion injury in the skeletal muscle of rat limb was studied. Skeletal muscle damage effects were induced by 3 h lasting­ vascular ischemia. The impact of C60FAS was studied after its intramuscular injection immediately after 1 h of reper­fusion at different doses, namely: 1, 2 and 3 mg/kg of body weight. Changes in the mechanokinetic parame­ters of ischemic skeletal muscle contraction at different modes of functioning and biochemical parame­ters of blood were used as markers of ischemic injury, and analyzed in detail under action of C60FAS. The obtained results indicate on great promise of use of C60FAS to reduce the consequences of ischemic muscle trauma
