On the hyperfine interaction in rare-earth Van Vleck paramagnets at high magnetic fields
An influence of high magnetic fields on hyperfine interaction in the
rare-earth ions with non-magnetic ground state (Van Vleck ions) is
theoretically investigated for the case of ion in axial symmetrical
crystal electric field (ethylsulphate crystal). It is shown that magnetic-field
induced distortions of -electron shell lead to essential changes in
hyperfine magnetic field at the nucleus. The proposed theoretical model is in
agreement with recent experimental data.Comment: 4 pages, no figures, submitted to J. Phys. : Cond. Mat
VUV and UV fluorescence and absorption studies of tb3+ and tm3+ trivalent ions in liyf4 single crystal hosts
The laser induced fluorescence spectra of LiYF4: Tb3+ (YLF: Tb) and LiYF4:Tm3+ (YLF: Tm) single crystals, pumped by an F2 pulsed discharge molecular laser at 157 nm, were obtained in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) and ultraviolet (UV) regions of the spectrum, at room temperature. A number of new fluorescence peaks were observed for the first time. They were assigned to the dipole allowed transitions 4f75d→4f8 and 4f115d→4f12 of Tb3+ and Tm3+ ions respectively. The absorption spectra of the same crystal samples in the VUV and UV regions were taken as well. The edge (onset) and the energy of the states with 4fN-1 5d configuration were determined. © 1994 Taylor and Francis Ltd
Ce3+ -doped colquiriite a new concept of all-solid-state tunable ultraviolet laser
In this letter the first performance of tunable solid-state ultraviolet laser, based on 5d-4f transitions of Ce3+ ions in a colquiriite LiCaAIF6 single crystal, is reported. Our findings hold promise for devising a tunable u.v. allsolid- state laser pumped by the fourth harmonic radiation of any commercially available Nd laser. © 1993 Taylor & Francis Ltd
