Rapid Prototyping using Fractal Geometry
The paper proposes a method for rapid prototyping (RP) fractal geometry represented
objects. RP technology has made possible the physical fabrication of solid freeform objects.
However, contemporary CAD/CAM/RP systems are developed for Euclidean geometry and are
incapable of handling self-similar fractal objects (e.g. jewelry products). To address the problem,
a Radial-Annular Tree (RAT) data structure is proposed to represent Iterated Function Systems
(IFS) fractal curves. RP toolpaths can then be generated from the RAT data structure. Geometry
modeled in the RAT data structure can also be combined with Euclidean geometry from
traditional CAD systems to make aesthetic patterns for the jewelry industry.Mechanical Engineerin
Spinor field realizations of the non-critical string based on the linear algebra
In this paper, we investigate the spinor field realizations of the
algebra, making use of the fact that the algebra can be linearized
through the addition of a spin-1 current. And then the nilpotent BRST charges

Quantitative Evaluation of Crystallographic Texture in Aluminum Alloy Builds Fabricated by Very High Power Ultrasonic Additive Manufacturing
Very high power ultrasonic additive manufacturing (VHPUAM) has shown good bond
quality over traditional ultrasonic consolidation processes. However, the stability of
microstructure in bulk and interface regions is unknown. Our earlier research showed a large
difference in grain growth kinetics between bulk and interface regions. Therefore, we have
performed in-situ studies of crystallographic texture evolution using a neutron beam line, before,
during, and after heat treatment at 343oC for 2 hours. Shear texture in the as-received condition
was found to be stronger with higher vibration amplitudes. We also observed rapid reduction of
rolling textures in the initial material and presence of shear textures even after heat treatment.Mechanical Engineerin
Antecedents and Consequences of User Co-Production in Information System Development Projects
A significant number of information system development (ISD) projects fail to achieve their predefined goals on time and/or within budget. Many organizations recognize that users can engage in projects to minimize the difficulties in effectively controlling the project and maximize the value created; therefore, user co-production is a crucial for organizations to enhance the effectiveness of ISD project. This study attempts to understand the antecedents and consequences of user co-production in ISD project. As a key contribution, we posit that user co-production is influenced by social capitals between users and developers. We then postulate that user co-production determines the project outcomes, which are shaped by system quality, user satisfaction and project performance. Data were gathered from a questionnaire survey of 103 pairs of user representatives and developers. Our results show that project outcomes are significantly influenced by user co-production. Furthermore, social capitals between user representatives and developers have positively significant influence on user co-production
The association of types of training and practice settings with doctors’ empathy and patient enablement among patients with chronic illness in Hong Kong
Background: The increase in non-communicable disease (NCD) is becoming a global health problem and there is an increasing need for primary care doctors to look after these patients although whether family doctors are adequately trained and prepared is unknown.
Objective: This study aimed to determine if doctors with family medicine (FM) training are associated with enhanced empathy in consultation and enablement for patients with chronic illness as compared to doctors with internal medicine training or without any postgraduate training in different clinic settings.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional questionnaire survey using the validated Chinese version of the Consultation and Relational Empathy (CARE) Measure as well as Patient Enablement Instrument (PEI) for evaluation of quality and outcome of care. 14 doctors from hospital specialist clinics (7 with family medicine training, and 7 with internal medicine training) and 13 doctors from primary care clinics (7 with family medicine training, and 6 without specialist training) were recruited. In total, they consulted 823 patients with chronic illness. The CARE Measure and PEI scores were compared amongst doctors in these clinics with different training background: family medicine training, internal medicine training and those without specialist training. Generalized estimation equation (GEE) was used to account for cluster effects of patients nested with doctors.
<b>Results</b> Within similar clinic settings, FM trained doctors had higher CARE score than doctors with no FM training. In hospital clinics, the difference of the mean CARE score for doctors who had family medicine training (39.2, SD = 7.04) and internal medicine training (35.5, SD = 8.92) was statistically significant after adjusting for consultation time and gender of the patient. In the community care clinics, the mean CARE score for doctors with family medicine training and those without specialist training were 32.1 (SD = 7.95) and 29.2 (SD = 7.43) respectively, but the difference was not found to be significant. For PEI, patients receiving care from doctors in the hospital clinics scored significantly higher than those in the community clinics, but there was no significant difference in PEI between patients receiving care from doctors with different training backgrounds within similar clinic setting.
Conclusion: Family medicine training was associated with higher patient perceived empathy for chronic illness patients in the hospital clinics. Patient enablement appeared to be associated with clinic settings but not doctors’ training background. Training in family medicine and a clinic environment that enables more patient doctor time might help in enhancing doctors’ empathy and enablement for chronic illness patients
Calculations of parity nonconserving s-d transitions in Cs, Fr, Ba II, and Ra II
We have performed ab initio mixed-states and sum-over-states calculations of
parity nonconserving (PNC) electric dipole (E1) transition amplitudes between
s-d electron states of Cs, Fr, Ba II, and Ra II. For the lower states of these
atoms we have also calculated energies, E1 transition amplitudes, and
lifetimes. We have shown that PNC E1 transition amplitudes between s-d states
can be calculated to high accuracy. Contrary to the Cs 6s-7s transition, in
these transitions there are no strong cancelations between different terms in
the sum-over-states approach. In fact, there is one dominating term which
deviates from the sum by less than 20%. This term corresponds to an s-p_{1/2}
weak matrix element, which can be calculated to better than 1%, and a
p_{1/2}-d_{3/2} E1 transition amplitude, which can be measured. Also, the s-d
amplitudes are about four times larger than the corresponding s-s transitions.
We have shown that by using a hybrid mixed-states/sum-over-states approach the
accuracy of the calculations of PNC s-d amplitudes could compete with that of
Cs 6s-7s if p_{1/2}-d_{3/2} E1 amplitudes are measured to high accuracy.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Pinning down the kaon form factors in K^+ -> mu^+ nu_mu gamma decay
We find that the normal muon polarization in the decay K->mu nu_mu gamma is
very sensitive to the values of the kaon vector F_V and axial-vector F_A form
factors. It is shown that the ongoing KEK-E246 experiment can definitely
determine the signs of the sum of the form factors if their difference is fixed
from other considerations. This method can also verify the form factor values
and signs obtained from the K^+ -> l^+ nu_l e^+ e^- decays. A new experiment
with sensitivity to the normal and transverse muon polarizations of about 10^-4
will provide a unique possibility to determine the F_V and F_A values with a

Interstitial Mn in (Ga,Mn)As: Binding energy and exchange coupling
We present ab initio calculations of total energies of Mn atoms in various
interstitial positions. The calculations are performed by the full-potential
linearized plane-wave method. The minimum energy is found for tetrahedral
T(As4) position, but the energy of the T(Ga4) site differs by only a few meV.
The T(Ga4) position becomes preferable in the p-type materials. In samples with
one substitutional and one interstitial Mn the Mn atoms tend to form close pair
with antiparallel magnetic moments. We also use the spin-splitting of the
valence band to estimate the exchange coupling Jpd for various positions of Mn.
It is the same for the substitutional and T(As4) position and it is only
slightly reduced for the T(Ga4) position. The hybridization of Mn d-states with
six next-nearest neighbors of the interstitial Mn explains the insensitivity of
