Locate QCD Critical End Point in a Continuum Model Study

With a modified chemical potential dependent effective model for the gluon propagator, we try to locate the critical end point (CEP) of strongly interacting matter in the framework of Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSE). Beyond the chiral limit, we find that Nambu solution and Wigner solution could coexist in some area. Using the CornwallJackiw-Tomboulis (CJT) effective action, we show that these two phases are connected by a first order phase transition. We then locate CEP as the end point of the first order phase transition line. Meanwhile, based on CJT effective action, we give a direct calculation for the chiral susceptibility and thereby study the crossover.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures; Version published in JHE

Quantitative global well-posedness of Boltzmann-Bose-Einstein equation and incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier limit

In the diffusive scaling and in the whole space, we prove the global well-posedness of the scaled Boltzmann-Bose-Einstein (briefly, BBE) equation with high temperature in the low regularity space Hx2L2H^2_xL^2. In particular, we quantify the fluctuation around the Bose-Einstein equilibrium Mλ,T(v)\mathcal{M}_{\lambda,T}(v) with respect to the parameters λ\lambda and temperature TT. Furthermore, the estimate for the diffusively scaled BBE equation is uniform to the Knudsen number ϵ\epsilon. As a consequence, we rigorously justify the hydrodynamic limit to the incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier equations. This is the first rigorous fluid limit result for BBE.Comment: 42 page

A simple encoder scheme for distributed residual video coding.

Rate-Distortion (RD) performance of Distributed Video Coding (DVC) is considerably less than that of conventional predictive video coding. In order to reduce the performance gap, many methods and techniques have been proposed to improve the coding efficiency of DVC with increased system complexity, especially techniques employed at the encoder such as encoder mode decisions, optimal quantization, hash methods etc., no doubt increase the complexity of the encoder. However, low complexity encoder is a widely desired feature of DVC. In order to improve the coding efficiency while maintaining low complexity encoder, this paper focuses on Distributed Residual Video Coding (DRVC) architecture and proposes a simple encoder scheme. The main contributions of this paper are as follows: 1) propose a bit plane block based method combined with bit plane re-arrangement to improve the dependency between source and Side Information (SI), and meanwhile, to reduce the amount of data to be channel encoded 2) present a simple iterative dead-zone quantizer with 3 levels in order to adjust quantization from coarse to fine. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms DISCOVER scheme for low to medium motion video sequences in terms of RD performance, and maintains a low complexity encoder at the same time
