    Transition Services for High School Students with Disabilities:Perspectives of Special Education Teachers

    This qualitative study examines the perspectives of special education/resource teachers in Winnipeg on current transition services to prepare high school stu-dents with disabilities for adulthood. The data were collected by individual in-depth interviews with 6 teachers responsible for coordinating transition services. The main themes emerging from these interviews were the roles of schools and teachers; extended period of high school; student and family involvement; func-tional and comprehensive instruction; inclusive placements and experiences; and inter-personnel and interagency collaboration in the transition process in Mani-toba. Interviewees identified barriers to effective transition services including li-mited supports and information for families, teachers, and government workers for transition services; lack of agreement concerning certain roles; delayed adult services; and lack of systematic approaches for student involvement and inclusive placement

    Transition Follow-up System Development for Youth with Disabilities: Stakeholders’ Perspectives

    In this study I examined in depth the perspectives of stakeholders in Manitoba on the development and implementation of a transition follow-up system (TFS) for youth with disabilities. I conducted focus groups and individual interviews with a total of 76 stakeholders and obtained qualitative data. The stakeholders who participated in this study included youth with disabilities, parents of youth with disabilities, high school special education/resource teachers, student services administrators, principals, adult service providers, government representatives, university faculty members, and advocates. The key themes identified are: purpose of TFS, ensuring accurate and reliable data, utilizing existing data-collection practices, government vs. non-government as administrator, multiple data collection, target population of a TFS, ensuring confidentiality and privacy, analyzing individual and program specific information, and information of interest

    Dynamic Control of Scan Signals in AMOLED Displays to Reduce Power Consumption

    This publication describes systems and techniques to dynamically control the scan signals of an active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display in portable electronic devices. Displays in portable electronic devices, such as smartphones, include tens of thousands of pixels. Scan signals in the display control the brightness and color of individual pixels. A leading source of power consumption in AMOLED displays, however, is the parasitic capacitance in the scan lines that carry the scan signals. As the frame rate of AMOLED displays has increased, the frequency of scan signals and the associated parasitic capacitance has also increased. This publication discloses a portable electronic device that can dynamically control the number of pulses in scan signals to reduce power consumption without degrading image quality

    Study of the Top-quark Pair Production in Association with a Bottom-quark Pair from Fast Simulations at the LHC

    A large number of top quarks will be produced at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) for Run II period. This will allow us to measure the rare processes from the top sector in great details. We present the study of the top-quark pair production in association with a bottom-quark pair (ttbb) from fast simulations for the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment. The differential distributions of ttbb are compared with the top-quark pair production with two additional jets (ttjj) and with the production in association with the Higgs (ttH), where the Higgs decays to a bottom-quark pair. The significances of ttbb process in the dileptonic and semileptonic decay mode are calculated with the data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 10 fb-1, which is foreseen to be collected in the early Run II period. This study will be an important input in searching for new physics beyond the standard model as well as in searching for ttH process where the Yukawa coupling with the top quark can be directly measured.Comment: 12 pages, 12 figure

    This publication describes techniques directed to improved compression algorithms that reduce the size of look-up tables used to store pixel burn-in compensation parameters that are used by Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display burn-in compensation algorithms. The improved compression algorithms include an x-y mapping compression algorithm and a line fitting parameters compression algorithm. The improved compression algorithms simplify logic, save memory space, conserve power, and/or reduce latency relative to many common compression techniques

Due to this age group not being at a high risk of developing severe COVID-19 symptoms, each major country has different, circumstance dependent, immunization policies for children. In this review, the COVID-19 vaccination policies for 5–11 years old children in major countries were reviewed and considerations were presented for Korea, where children 5–11 years old are starting to get vaccinated against COVID-19
