    Universally Composable Secure Group Communication

    This paper analyzes group communication within the universally composable framework. We first propose the group communication model, identity-based signcrytion model and group key distribution model in the UC framework by designing the ideal functionality FSAGCOM\mathcal {F}_{SAGCOM}, FIDSC\mathcal {F}_{IDSC} and FGKD\mathcal {F}_{GKD}, respectively. Then, we construct a UC secure identity-based signcryption protocol Ο€IDSC\pi_{IDSC}. Moreover, we shows that the identity-based signcryption Ο€IDSC\pi_{IDSC} securely realizes the ideal functionality FIDSC\mathcal {F}_{IDSC} if and only if the corresponding protocol IDSC is secure. Finally, based on the identity-based protocol, we propose a group communication scheme Ο€SAGCOM\pi_{SAGCOM}, which can securely realizes the ideal functionality FSAGCOM\mathcal {F}_{SAGCOM} in the (FIDSC,FGKD)(\mathcal {F}_{IDSC},\mathcal {F}_{GKD})-hybrid model

    Government environmental information disclosure and corporate carbon performance

    Environmental problem is the key to the healthy development of China’s eco-economy, and the environmental responsibility of micro-enterprises under the vision of β€œDual Carbon” has attracted more attention. Under the effect of formal environmental regulation, firms will improve their environmental performance by improving technology and resource utilization. As an informal environmental system, can government environmental information disclosure (GEID) guide firms to actively carry out green innovation, ultimately improve the carbon emission problem of firms, have a positive impact on the carbon performance of enterprises, and provide strong support to protect ecological environment? To address this question, this study used the Pollution Information Transparency Index (PITI) to measure GEID, and empirically tested the impact of GEID on corporate carbon performance using a sample of listed companies involved in China’s mining and manufacturing industries from 2013 to 2018. The study found that the higher the degree of GEID, the better was the corporate carbon performance. However, the improved public participation weakened the effect of GEID on corporate carbon performance. GEID reduced the carbon emission intensity of firms and improved their carbon performance via green innovation. Further research indicated that the enhanced GEID in state-owned enterprises significantly improved carbon performance of firms. This study provides empirical evidence for GEID to improve corporate carbon performance, and also proposes a policy strategy for the government to guide firms to undertake green innovation and promote firms to improve efficient carbon use

    Generative Human Motion Stylization in Latent Space

    Human motion stylization aims to revise the style of an input motion while keeping its content unaltered. Unlike existing works that operate directly in pose space, we leverage the latent space of pretrained autoencoders as a more expressive and robust representation for motion extraction and infusion. Building upon this, we present a novel generative model that produces diverse stylization results of a single motion (latent) code. During training, a motion code is decomposed into two coding components: a deterministic content code, and a probabilistic style code adhering to a prior distribution; then a generator massages the random combination of content and style codes to reconstruct the corresponding motion codes. Our approach is versatile, allowing the learning of probabilistic style space from either style labeled or unlabeled motions, providing notable flexibility in stylization as well. In inference, users can opt to stylize a motion using style cues from a reference motion or a label. Even in the absence of explicit style input, our model facilitates novel re-stylization by sampling from the unconditional style prior distribution. Experimental results show that our proposed stylization models, despite their lightweight design, outperform the state-of-the-art in style reenactment, content preservation, and generalization across various applications and settings.     Intergeneric transfer of ribosomal genes between two fungi

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Horizontal gene transfer, also called lateral gene transfer, frequently occurs among prokaryotic organisms, and is considered an important force in their evolution. However, there are relatively few reports of transfer to or from fungi, with some notable exceptions in the acquisition of prokaryotic genes. Some fungal species have been found to contain sequences resembling those of bacterial genes, and with such sequences absent in other fungal species, this has been interpreted as horizontal gene transfer. Similarly, a few fungi have been found to contain genes absent in close relatives but present in more distantly related taxa, and horizontal gene transfer has been invoked as a parsimonious explanation. There is a paucity of direct experimental evidence demonstrating the occurrence of horizontal gene transfer in fungi.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We found a fungal field isolate from rice (<it>Oryzae sativa</it>) that contains ribosomal DNA sequences from two species of fungal rice pathogens (<it>Thanatephorus cucumeris </it>and <it>Ceratobasidium oryzae-sativae</it>). This field isolate has four types of ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacers (ITS), namely pure ITS of <it>C. oryzae-sativae</it>, which was dominant in this field isolate, pure ITS of <it>T. cucumeris</it>, and two chimeric ITS, with ITS1 derived from <it>C. oryzae-sativae </it>and ITS2 from <it>T. cucumeris</it>, or ITS1 from <it>T. cucumeri</it>s and ITS2 from <it>C. oryzae-sativae</it>. The presence of chimeric forms indicates that the intergeneric hybrid was not merely composed of nuclei from the parental species, but that nuclear fusion and crossing over had taken place.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Hyphae of <it>T. cucumeris </it>and <it>C. oryzae-sativae </it>are vegetatively incompatible, and do not successfully anastomose. However, they parasitize the same host, and perhaps under the influence of host enzymes targeted to weaken pathogen cells or in dying host plant tissue, the fungal hyphae lost their integrity, and normal vegetative incompatibility mechanisms were overcome, allowing the hyphae to fuse. Based on the presence of other similarly anomalous isolates from the field, we speculate that these types of intergeneric hybridization events and occurrences of horizontal gene transfer may not be so rare in the field.</p

    Evolutionary genomics of mycovirus-related dsRNA viruses reveals cross-family horizontal gene transfer and evolution of diverse viral lineages

    BACKGROUND: Double-stranded (ds) RNA fungal viruses are typically isometric single-shelled particles that are classified into three families, Totiviridae, Partitiviridae and Chrysoviridae, the members of which possess monopartite, bipartite and quadripartite genomes, respectively. Recent findings revealed that mycovirus-related dsRNA viruses are more diverse than previously recognized. Although an increasing number of viral complete genomic sequences have become available, the evolution of these diverse dsRNA viruses remains to be clarified. This is particularly so since there is little evidence for horizontal gene transfer (HGT) among dsRNA viruses. RESULTS: In this study, we report the molecular properties of two novel dsRNA mycoviruses that were isolated from a field strain of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Sunf-M: one is a large monopartite virus representing a distinct evolutionary lineage of dsRNA viruses; the other is a new member of the family Partitiviridae. Comprehensive phylogenetic analysis and genome comparison revealed that there are at least ten monopartite, three bipartite, one tripartite and three quadripartite lineages in the known dsRNA mycoviruses and that the multipartite lineages have possibly evolved from different monopartite dsRNA viruses. Moreover, we found that homologs of the S7 Domain, characteristic of members of the genus phytoreovirus in family Reoviridae are widely distributed in diverse dsRNA viral lineages, including chrysoviruses, endornaviruses and some unclassified dsRNA mycoviruses. We further provided evidence that multiple HGT events may have occurred among these dsRNA viruses from different families. CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides an insight into the phylogeny and evolution of mycovirus-related dsRNA viruses and reveals that the occurrence of HGT between different virus species and the development of multipartite genomes during evolution are important macroevolutionary mechanisms in dsRNA viruses

    Medium optimization for palmarumycin C13 production in liquid culture of endophytic fungus Berkleasmium sp. Dzf12 using response surface methodology

    Background: Berkleasmium sp. Dzf12, an endophytic fungus from Dioscorea zingiberensis , was a high producer of palmarumycin C13 with various bioactivities. In the present study, the experimental designs based on statistics were employed to evaluate and optimize the medium for palmarumycin C13 production in mycelia liquid culture of Berkleasmium sp. Dzf12. Results: Among various carbon and nitrogen sources, glucose, peptone and yeast extract were found to be the most favourable for palmarumycin C13 production based on the one-factor-at-a-time experiments. After Plackett-Burman test on the medium, glucose, peptone and yeast extract were further verified to be the most significant factors to stimulate palmarumycin C13 accumulation. These three factors (i.e., glucose, peptone and yeast extract) were then optimized through the experiments of central composite design (CCD) and analysis of response surface methodology (RSM). The optimized medium compositions for palmarumycin C13 production were determined as 42.5 g/l of glucose, 6.5 g/l of peptone, 11.0 g/l of yeast extract, 1.0 g/l of KH2PO4, 0.5 g/l of MgSO4 x 7H2O, 0.05 g/l of FeSO4 x 7H2O, and pH 6.5. Under the optimal culture conditions, the maximum palmarumycin C13 yield of Berkleasmium sp. Dzf12 was increased to 318.63 mg/l, which was about 2.5-fold in comparison with that (130.44 mg/l) in the basal medium. Conclusions: The results indicate that the optimum production of palmarumycin C13 in Berkleasmium sp. Dzf12 liquid culture can be achieved by addition of glucose, peptone and yeast extract with their appropriate concentrations in the modified Sabouraud medium

    Effects of oligosaccharides from endophytic Fusarium oxysporum Dzf17 on activities of defense-related enzymes in Dioscorea zingiberensis suspension cell and seedling cultures

    Background: Three oligosaccharides (EOS, WOS and SOS) were respectively prepared from the corresponding polysaccharides, namely exopolysaccharide (EPS), water-extracted mycelial polysaccharide (WPS) and sodium hydroxide-extracted mycelial polysaccharides (SPS) from the endophytic fungus Fusarium oxysporum Dzf17. In this study, the effects of EOS,WOS and SOS on the activities of the defense-related enzymes, namely phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), polyphenoloxidase (PPO) and peroxidase (POD) in its host plant Dioscorea zingiberensis cultures were investigated. Results: For the suspension cell cultures of D. zingiberensis, the highest PAL activity was induced by 0.5 mg/mL of WOS at 48 h after treatment, which was 4.55-fold as that of control. Both PPO and POD activities were increased to themaximumvalues by 0.25 mg/mL ofWOS at 48 h after treatment,whichwere respectively 3.74 and 3.45-fold as those of control. For the seedling cultures, the highest PAL activity was elicited by 2.5 mg/mL of EOS at 48 h after treatment, which was 3.62-fold as that of control. Both PPO and POD reached theirmaximum values treatedwith 2.5 mg/mL ofWOS at 48 h after treatment, whichwere 4.61 and 4.19-fold as those of control, separately. Conclusions: Both EOS and WOS significantly increased the activities of PAL, PPO and POD in the suspension cell and seedling cultures of D. zingiberensis. The results suggested that the oligosaccharides from the endophytic fungus F. oxysporum Dzf17 may be related to the activation and enhancement of the defensivemechanisms of D. zingiberensis suspension cell and seedling cultures

    Structural mechanism of heavy metal-associated integrated domain engineering of paired nucleotide-binding and leucine-rich repeat proteins in rice

    Plant nucleotide-binding and leucine-rich repeat (NLR) proteins are immune sensors that detect pathogen effectors and initiate a strong immune response. In many cases, single NLR proteins are sufficient for both effector recognition and signaling activation. These proteins possess a conserved architecture, including a C-terminal leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domain, a central nucleotide-binding (NB) domain, and a variable N-terminal domain. Nevertheless, many paired NLRs linked in a head-to-head configuration have now been identified. The ones carrying integrated domains (IDs) can recognize pathogen effector proteins by various modes; these are known as sensor NLR (sNLR) proteins. Structural and biochemical studies have provided insights into the molecular basis of heavy metal-associated IDs (HMA IDs) from paired NLRs in rice and revealed the co-evolution between pathogens and hosts by combining naturally occurring favorable interactions across diverse interfaces. Focusing on structural and molecular models, here we highlight advances in structure-guided engineering to expand and enhance the response profile of paired NLR-HMA IDs in rice to variants of the rice blast pathogen MAX-effectors (Magnaporthe oryzae AVRs and ToxB-like). These results demonstrate that the HMA IDs-based design of rice materials with broad and enhanced resistance profiles possesses great application potential but also face considerable challenges
