Performance improvement of the LM device and its application to precise measurement of motion trajectories within a small range with a machining centre
In order to apply the LM device previously developed to precisely measuring small motion trajectories located on the different motion planes, three major improvements are successfully performed under the condition of completely maintaining the advantages of the device. These improvements include 1) development of a novel connection mechanism to smoothly attach the device to the spindle of a machining centre; 2) employment of a new data sampling method to achieve a high sampling frequency independent of the operating system of the control computer; and 3) proposal of a set-up method to conveniently install the device on the test machining centre with respect to different motion planes. Practical measurement experiment results with the improved device on a machining centre sufficiently demonstrate the effectiveness of the improvements and confirm several features including a very good response to small displacement close to the resolution of the device, high precision, repeatability and reliance. Moreover, based on the measurement results for a number of trajectories for a wide range of motion conditions, the error characteristics of small size motions are systematically discussed and the effect of the movement size and feed rate on the motion accuracy is verified for the machining centre tested
Determination of the Local Standard of Rest using the LSS-GAC DR1
We re-estimate the peculiar velocity of the Sun with respect to the local
standard of rest using a sample of local stars within 600 pc of the Sun,
selected from the LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic Anti-centre
(LSS-GAC). The sample consists of 94332 FGK main-sequence stars with
well-determined radial velocities and atmospheric parameters. To derive the
LSR, two independent analyses are applied to the data. Firstly, we determine
the solar motion by comparing the observed velocity distribution to that
generated with the analytic formulism of Schonrich & Binney that has been
demonstrated to show excellent agreement with rigorous torus-based dynamics
modelling by Binney & McMillan. Secondly, we propose that cold populations of
thin disc stars, selected by applying an orbital eccentricity cut, can be
directly used to determine the LSR without the need of asymmetric drift
corrections. Both approaches yield consistent results of solar motion in the
direction of Galactic rotation, V_sun, that are much higher than the standard
value adopted hitherto, derived from Stromgren's equation. The newly deduced
values of V_sun are 1-2 km/s smaller than the more recent estimates derived
from the Geneva-Copenhagen Survey sample of stars in the solar neighbourhood
(within 100 pc). We attribute the small difference to the presence of several
well-known moving groups in the GCS sample that, fortunately, hardly affect the
LSS-GAC sample. The newly derived radial and vertical components of the solar
motion agree well with the previous studies. In addition, for all components of
the solar motion, the values yielded by stars of different spectral types in
the LSS-GAC sample are consistent with each other, suggesting that the local
disk is well relaxed and that the LSR reported in the current work is robust.
Our final recommended LSR is, (U,V,W)_sun = (7.01+/-0.20, 10.13+/-0.12,

Eradication of unresectable liver metastasis through induction of tumour specific energy depletion.
Treatment of liver metastasis experiences slow progress owing to the severe side effects. In this study, we demonstrate a strategy capable of eliminating metastatic cancer cells in a selective manner. Nucleus-targeting W18O49 nanoparticles (WONPs) are conjugated to mitochondria-selective mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) containing photosensitizer (Ce6) through a Cathepsin B-cleavable peptide. In hepatocytes, upon the laser irradiation, the generated singlet oxygen species are consumed by WONPs, in turn leading to the loss of their photothermally heating capacity, thereby sparing hepatocyte from thermal damage induced by the laser illumination. By contrast, in cancer cells, the cleaved peptide linker allows WONPs and MSNs to respectively target nucleus and mitochondria, where the therapeutic powers could be unleashed, both photodynamically and photothermally. This ensures the energy production of cancer cells can be abolished. We further assess the underlying molecular mechanism at both gene and protein levels to better understand the therapeutic outcome
H-type hypertension: a key point for primary stroke prevention in China
H-type hypertension is accompanied by elevated homocysteine (Hcy) (≥10 μmol/L) in the blood, which synergistically increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases with hypertension, especially stroke. Approximately 75% of hypertensive patients in China are H-type, which is closely associated with the characteristics of Chinese population. Early screening and diagnosis of H-type hypertension and accurate prevention and treatment are of significance. Folic acid supplementation based on blood pressure reduction can effectively reduce the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients. The effects of folic acid supplementation on stroke prevention vary among different populations. Screening patients with a higher cost-benefit ratio can significantly improve prevention and treatment efficiency. With the proposal of H-type hypertension concept, more and more related studies have been conducted, which provides valuable clues for elucidating relevant mechanisms. It is necessary to carry out further in-depth research to expand and supplement related theories of H-type hypertension
