The Lepton-Number-Violating Decays of and Mesons Induced by the Doubly Charged Higgs Boson
The lepton-number-violating decays of and mesons induced
by the doubly charged Higgs boson have been studied. It is found that although
the yielded results of the branch ratio are much smaller than the present
limits from the data they are consistent with the previous conclusions
calculated in the framwork of relativistic quark model where the processes
happened via the light Majorana neutrinos.Comment: version to appear in PR
Transmit Optimization with Improper Gaussian Signaling for Interference Channels
This paper studies the achievable rates of Gaussian interference channels
with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), when improper or circularly
asymmetric complex Gaussian signaling is applied. For the Gaussian
multiple-input multiple-output interference channel (MIMO-IC) with the
interference treated as Gaussian noise, we show that the user's achievable rate
can be expressed as a summation of the rate achievable by the conventional
proper or circularly symmetric complex Gaussian signaling in terms of the
users' transmit covariance matrices, and an additional term, which is a
function of both the users' transmit covariance and pseudo-covariance matrices.
The additional degrees of freedom in the pseudo-covariance matrix, which is
conventionally set to be zero for the case of proper Gaussian signaling,
provide an opportunity to further improve the achievable rates of Gaussian
MIMO-ICs by employing improper Gaussian signaling. To this end, this paper
proposes widely linear precoding, which efficiently maps proper
information-bearing signals to improper transmitted signals at each transmitter
for any given pair of transmit covariance and pseudo-covariance matrices. In
particular, for the case of two-user Gaussian single-input single-output
interference channel (SISO-IC), we propose a joint covariance and
pseudo-covariance optimization algorithm with improper Gaussian signaling to
achieve the Pareto-optimal rates. By utilizing the separable structure of the
achievable rate expression, an alternative algorithm with separate covariance
and pseudo-covariance optimization is also proposed, which guarantees the rate

Sub-Stream Fairness and Numerical Correctness in MIMO Interference Channels
Signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and rate fairness in a system
are substantial quality-of-service (QoS) metrics. The acclaimed SINR
maximization (max-SINR) algorithm does not achieve fairness between user's
streams, i.e., sub-stream fairness is not achieved. To this end, we propose a
distributed power control algorithm to render sub-stream fairness in the
system. Sub-stream fairness is a less restrictive design metric than stream
fairness (i.e., fairness between all streams) thus sum-rate degradation is
milder. Algorithmic parameters can significantly differentiate the results of
numerical algorithms. A complete picture for comparison of algorithms can only
be depicted by varying these parameters. For example, a predetermined iteration
number or a negligible increment in the sum-rate can be the stopping criteria
of an algorithm. While the distributed interference alignment (DIA) can
reasonably achieve sub-stream fairness for the later, the imbalance between
sub-streams increases as the preset iteration number decreases. Thus comparison
of max-SINR and DIA with a low preset iteration number can only depict a part
of the picture. We analyze such important parameters and their effects on SINR
and rate metrics to exhibit numerical correctness in executing the benchmarks.
Finally, we propose group filtering schemes that jointly design the streams of
a user in contrast to max-SINR scheme that designs each stream of a user

Violation of monogamy inequality for higher-dimensional objects
Bipartite quantum entanglement for qutrits and higher-dimensional objects is
considered. We analyze the possibility of violation of monogamy inequality,
introduced by Coffman, Kundu, and Wootters, for some systems composed of such
objects. An explicit counterexample with a three-qutrit totally antisymmetric
state is presented. Since three-tangle has been confirmed to be a natural
measure of entanglement for qubit systems, our result shows that the
three-tangle is no longer a legitimate measure of entanglement for states with

Market Interactions, Farmer Choices, and the Sustainability of Growing Advanced Biofuels
Advanced biofuels such as cellulosic ethanol are of great interest for their potential to supply a significant portion of U.S. fuel needs plus advantages over corn grain-based ethanol. The sustainability of agriculture-based advanced biofuels depends on how farmers would respond in providing biomass feedstock, yet economic behavior by farmers has been under recognized by the science community. Focusing on markets and policy incentives, this research shows that farmers are unlikely to convert current grain cropland to grow a dedicated cellulosic biomass crop such as switchgrass. However, the financial incentives to harvest cellulosic biomass provided by the 2008 farm bill may stimulate corn production due to demand for corn grain for feed and ethanol and corn residues for advanced biofuels. The prospect of continuous, possibly expanding corn production for advanced biofuels raises the same environmental issues as for corn grain-based ethanol. Analysis of CDC social control measures using an agent-based simulation of an influenza epidemic in a city
Background: the transmission of infectious disease amongst the human population is a complex process which requires advanced, often individual-based, models to capture the space-time details observed in reality.Methods: an Individual Space-Time Activity-based Model (ISTAM) was applied to simulate the effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical control measures including: (1) refraining from social activities, (2) school closure and (3) household quarantine, for a hypothetical influenza outbreak in an urban area.Results: amongst the set of control measures tested, refraining from social activities with various compliance levels was relatively ineffective. Household quarantine was very effective, especially for the peak number of cases and total number of cases, with large differences between compliance levels. Household quarantine resulted in a decrease in the peak number of cases from more than 300 to around 158 for a 100% compliance level, a decrease of about 48.7%. The delay in the outbreak peak was about 3 to 17 days. The total number of cases decreased to a range of 3635-5403, that is, 63.7%-94.7% of the baseline value.When coupling control measures, household quarantine together with school closure was the most effective strategy. The resulting space-time distribution of infection in different classes of activity bundles (AB) suggests that the epidemic outbreak is strengthened amongst children and then spread to adults. By sensitivity analysis, this study demonstrated that earlier implementation of control measures leads to greater efficacy. Also, for infectious diseases with larger basic reproduction number, the effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical measures was shown to be limited.Conclusions: simulated results showed that household quarantine was the most effective control measure, while school closure and household quarantine implemented together achieved the greatest benefit. Agent-based models should be applied in the future to evaluate the efficacy of control measures for a range of disease outbreaks in a range of settings given sufficient information about the given case and knowledge about the transmission processes at a fine scal
