Equilibrium or Simple Rule at Wimbledon? An Empirical Study
We follow Walker and Wooders’(2001) empirical analysis to collect and study a broader data set in tennis, including male, female and junior matches. We find that there is mixed evidence in support of the minimax hypothesis. Granted, the plays in our data pass all the tests in Walker and Wooders (2001). However, we argue that not only the test on equal winning probabilities may lack power, but also the current serve choices may depend on past serve choices, the performance of past serve choices, or the time that the game has elapsed. We therefore examine the role that simple rules may play in determining the plays. For a significant number of top tennis players, some simple low-information rules outperform the minimax hypothesis. By comparing junior players with adult players, we find that the former tend to adopt simpler rules. The result of comparison between female and male players is inconclusiveminimax, learning, low-information
Implementing a Cooking and Dietary Management System Using RFID Technology
The establishment of a database of nutritional ingredients with electronic scales feature provides chefs with conducted cooking; as long as the food category is selected and weighed by order, the nutritional content of the dish will be known. By RFID electronic scales and electronic plate function, the meal intake of nutrients and measurement of food nutrients per meal can reach a daily diet control purpose. The so-called RFID electronic plate is embedded into the chassis and aplate composed of a plurality of dishes to detect information in the chassis and the various subdishes through RFID reader. The chassis provides users with automatic identification such as physiological signals and doctor’s prescription as an individual dietary recommendation through dietary database. The dietary database, in addition to providing essential food nutrients, can be used to query using keywords and classification methods so as to quickly find the sum ingredients for cooking and ingredients. The chefs instantly know the meals nutrition during ingredients weighing by using RFID electronic scales. End users only need to place the allocated cooking dishes on electronic scales; they can easily know the total own meal intake nutrition
Numerical Analysis on Color Preference and Visual Comfort from Eye Tracking Technique
Color preferences in engineering are very important, and there exists relationship between color preference and visual comfort. In this study, there are thirty university students who participated in the experiment, supplemented by pre- and posttest questionnaires, which lasted about an hour. The main purpose of this study is to explore the visual effects of different color assignment with subjective color preferences via eye tracking technology. Eye-movement data through a nonlinear analysis detect slight differences in color preferences
and visual comfort, suggesting effective physiological indicators as extensive future research discussed. Results found that the average pupil size of eye-movement indicators can effectively reflect the differences of color preferences and visual comfort. This study more confirmed that the subjective feeling will make people have misjudgment
Seizure After Local Anesthesia for Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma
We report a young male patient who experienced seizure after local injection of 3 mL 2% lidocaine with epinephrine 1:200,000 around a recurrent nasal angiofibroma. After receiving 100% oxygen via mask and thiamylal sodium, the patient had no residual neurologic sequelae. Seizure immediately following the injection of local anesthetics in the nasal cavity is probably due to injection into venous or arterial circulation with retrograde flow to the brain circulation. Further imaging study or angiography should be done before head and neck surgeries, especially in such highly vascular neoplasm
