Computation of the p6p^6 order low-energy constants with tensor sources

We present the results of calculations of the p4p^4 and p6p^6 order low-energy constants for the chiral Lagrangian with tensor sources for both two and three flavors of pseudoscalar mesons. This is a generalization of our previous work on similar calculations without tensor sources in terms of the quark self-energy Σ(p2)\Sigma(p^2), based on the first principle derivation of the low-energy effective Lagrangian and computation of the low-energy constants with some rough approximations. With the help of partial integration and some epsilon relations, we find that some p6p^6 order operators with tensor sources appearing in the literature are related to each other. That leaves 98 independent terms for nn-flavor, 92 terms for three-flavor, and 65 terms for two-flavor cases. We also find that the odd-intrinsic-parity chiral Lagrangian with tensor sources cannot independently exist in any order of low-energy expansion.Comment: 29 page

A Cosmological Model with Dark Spinor Source

In this paper, we discuss the system of Friedman-Robertson-Walker metric coupling with massive nonlinear dark spinors in detail, where the thermodynamic movement of spinors is also taken into account. The results show that, the nonlinear potential of the spinor field can provide a tiny negative pressure, which resists the Universe to become singular. The solution is oscillating in time and closed in space, which approximately takes the following form g_{\mu\nu}=\bar R^2(1-\delta\cos t)^2\diag(1,-1,-\sin^2r ,-\sin^2r \sin^2\theta), with Rˉ=(1∼2)×1012\bar R= (1\sim 2)\times 10^{12} light year, and δ=0.96∼0.99\delta=0.96\sim 0.99. The present time is about t∼18∘t\sim 18^\circ.Comment: 13 pages, no figure, to appear in IJMP

Antiferromagnetism in metals: from the cuprate superconductors to the heavy fermion materials

The critical theory of the onset of antiferromagnetism in metals, with concomitant Fermi surface reconstruction, has recently been shown to be strongly coupled in two spatial dimensions. The onset of unconventional superconductivity near this critical point is reviewed: it involves a subtle interplay between the breakdown of fermionic quasiparticle excitations on the Fermi surface, and the strong pairing glue provided by the antiferromagnetic fluctuations. The net result is a logarithm-squared enhancement of the pairing vertex for generic Fermi surfaces, with a universal dimensionless co-efficient independent of the strength of interactions, which is expected to lead to superconductivity at the scale of the Fermi energy. We also discuss the possibility that the antiferromagnetic critical point can be replaced by an intermediate `fractionalized Fermi liquid' phase, in which there is Fermi surface reconstruction but no long-range antiferromagnetic order. We discuss the relevance of this phase to the underdoped cuprates and the heavy-fermion materials.Comment: Talk at SCES 2011; 19 pages, 12 figures; (v2) corrected typo

Magnetic Field Effects in the Pseudogap Phase: A Competing Energy Gap Scenario for Precursor Superconductivity

We study the sensitivity of T_c and T^* to low fields, H, within the pseudogap state using a BCS-based approach extended to arbitrary coupling. We find that T^* and T_c, which are of the same superconducting origin, have very different H dependences. This is due to the pseudogap, \Delta_{pg}, which is present at the latter, but not former temperature. Our results for the coherence length \xi fit well with existing experiments. We predict that very near the insulator \xi will rapidly increase.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, RevTe
