    Entanglement Effect on Off-diagonal Geometric Phase

    Full text link
    The effect of entanglement on off-diagonal geometric phases is investigated in the paper. Two spin-1/2 particles in magnetic fields along the yy direction are taken as an example. Three parameters (the purity of state rr, the mixing angle θ\theta and the relative phase β\beta) are chosen to characterize the initial states. The nodal points at which the usual geometric phases disappear are calculated and illustrated as a function of the three parameters.Comment: final version; appearing in Europhys. Lett. 74, 757(2006

    Berry's phase with quantized field driving: effects of inter-subsystem coupling

    Full text link
    The effect of inter-subsystem couplings on the Berry phase of a composite system as well as that of its subsystem is investigated in this paper. We analyze two coupled spin-12\frac 1 2 particles with one driven by a quantized field as an example, the pure state geometric phase of the composite system as well as the mixed state geometric phase for the subsystem is calculated and discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur

    Geometric Phase in Entangled Bipartite Systems

    Full text link
    The geometric phase (GP) for bipartite systems in transverse external magnetic fields is investigated in this paper. Two different situations have been studied. We first consider two non-interacting particles. The results show that because of entanglement, the geometric phase is very different from that of the non-entangled case. When the initial state is a Werner state, the geometric phase is, in general, zero and moreover the singularity of the geometric phase may appear with a proper evolution time. We next study the geometric phase when intra-couplings appear and choose Werner states as the initial states to entail this discussion. The results show that unlike our first case, the absolute value of the GP is not zero, and attains its maximum when the rescaled coupling constant JJ is less than 1. The effect of inhomogeneity of the magnetic field is also discussed.Comment: 5 pages and to be published in Euro. Phys. J.

    Ultra-broadband Light Absorption by a Sawtooth Anisotropic Metamaterial Slab

    Get PDF
    We present an ultra broadband thin-film infrared absorber made of saw-toothed anisotropic metamaterial. Absorbtivity of higher than 95% at normal incidence is supported in a wide range of frequencies, where the full absorption width at half maximum is about 86%. Such property is retained well at a very wide range of incident angles too. Light of shorter wavelengths are harvested at upper parts of the sawteeth of smaller widths, while light of longer wavelengths are trapped at lower parts of larger tooth widths. This phenomenon is explained by the slowlight modes in anisotropic metamaterial waveguide. Our study can be applied in the field of designing photovoltaic devices and thermal emitters.Comment: 12 pages, 4 picture

    Measurement of the branching fractions of psi(2S) -> 3(pi+pi-) and J/psi -> 2(pi+pi-)

    Full text link
    Using data samples collected at sqrt(s) = 3.686GeV and 3.650GeV by the BESII detector at the BEPC, the branching fraction of psi(2S) -> 3(pi+pi-) is measured to be [4.83 +- 0.38(stat) +- 0.69(syst)] x 10^-4, and the relative branching fraction of J/psi -> 2(pi+pi-) to that of J/psi -> mu+mu- is measured to be [5.86 +- 0.19(stat) +- 0.39(syst)]% via psi(2S) -> (pi+pi-)J/psi, J/psi -> 2(pi+pi-). The electromagnetic form factor of 3(pi+pi-) is determined to be 0.21 +- 0.02 and 0.20 +- 0.01 at sqrt(s) = 3.686GeV and 3.650GeV, respectively.Comment: 17pages, 7 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.

    Observation of p pbar pi^0 and p pbar eta in psi' decays

    Full text link
    The processes psi'-->p pbar pi^0 and psi'-->p pbar eta are studied using a sample of 14 million psi' decays collected with the Beijing Spectrometer at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider. The branching fraction of psi'-->p pbar pi^0 is measured with improved precision as (13.2\pm 1.0\pm 1.5)\times 10^{-5}, and psi'-->p pbar eta is observed for the first time with a branching fraction of (5.8\pm 1.1\pm 0.7)\times 10^{-5}, where the first errors are statistical and the second ones are systematic.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures and 3 table

    Measurements of J/psi decays into phi pi^0, phi eta, and phi eta^prime

    Full text link
    Based on 5.8x10^7 J/psi events detected in BESII, the branching fractions of J/psi--> phi eta and phi eta^prime are measured for different eta and eta^prime decay modes. The results are significantly higher than previous measurements. An upper limit on B(J/psi--> phi pi^0) is also obtained.Comment: 9 pages, 10 figure
