Spectroscopy of broad absorption line quasars at -- I: evidence for quasar winds shaping broad/narrow emission line regions
We present an observational study of 22 broad absorption line quasars (BAL
QSOs) at based on optical/near-IR spectroscopy, aiming
to investigate quasar winds and their effects. The near-IR spectroscopy covers
the \hb\ and/or \mgii\ broad emission lines (BELs) for these quasars, allowing
us to estimate their central black hole (BH) masses in a robust way. We found
that our BAL QSOs on average do not have a higher Eddington ratio than that
from non-BAL QSOs matched in redshift and/or luminosity. In a subset consisting
of seven strong BAL QSOs possessing sub-relativistic BAL outflows, we see the
prevalence of large \civ-BEL blueshift (3100 km s) and weak \oiii\
emission (particularly the narrow \oiii5007 component), indicative of
nuclear outflows affecting the narrow emission-line (NEL) regions. In another
subset consisting of thirteen BAL QSOs having simultaneous observations of
\mgii\ and \hb, we found a strong correlation between 3000~\AA\ and 5000~\AA\
monochromatic luminosity, consistent with that from non-BAL QSOs matched in
redshift and luminosity; however, there is no correlation between \mgii\ and
\hb\ in FWHM, likely due to nuclear outflows influencing the BEL regions. Our
spectroscopic investigations offer strong evidence that the presence of nuclear
outflows plays an important role in shaping the BEL/NEL regions of these
quasars and possibly, regulating the growth of central supermassive black holes
(SMBHs). We propose that BEL blueshift and BAL could be different
manifestations of the same outflow system viewed at different sightlines and/or
phases.Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures. Accepted for publication in Ap
Kvantna teorija difrakcije neutrona na mnogo pukotina
We study neutron multiple-slit diffraction with a quantum mechanical approach. For the double-slit diffraction, we obtain the following results: (1) when the ratio (d + a)/a = n (n = 1, 2, 3, · · ·), orders n, 2n, 3n, · · · are missing in the diffraction pattern. (2) When the ratio of (d + a)/a /= n (n = 1, 2, 3, · · ·), there isn’t any missing order in the diffraction pattern. For diffraction on N (N ≥ 3) slits, we obtain the following results: (1) There are N − 2 secondary maxima and N − 1 minima between the two principle maxima. (2) As the slit number N increases, the diffraction intensity increases and the peak widths become narrower. (3) As the slit width increases, the diffraction intensity increases and the pattern width becomes narrower. (4) When the two-slit distance d increases, the number of principle maxima increases and the pattern becomes narrower. (5) We find a new quantum effect that the slit thickness c has a large effect to the multiple-slit diffraction pattern. We think all predictions in this work can be tested by neutron multiple-slit diffraction experiments.
Quantum theory of electronic double-slit diffraction
The phenomena of electron, neutron, atomic and molecular diffraction have
been studied by many experiments, and these experiments are explained by some
theoretical works. In this paper, we study electronic double-slit diffraction
with quantum mechanical approach. We can obtain the results: (1) When the slit
width is in the range of we can obtain the obvious
diffraction patterns. (2) when the ratio of , order are missing in
diffraction pattern. (3)When the ratio of , there isn't missing order in diffraction pattern. (4) We
also find a new quantum mechanics effect that the slit thickness has a
large affect to the electronic diffraction patterns. We think all the
predictions in our work can be tested by the electronic double-slit diffraction
experiment.Comment: 9pages, 14figure
Diagnosis and prognostic value of circDLGAP4 in acute ischemic stroke and its correlation with outcomes
Rationale and aimsCircular RNAs are a subclass of noncoding RNAs in mammalian cells and highly expressed in the central nervous system. Although their physiological functions are not yet completely defined, they are thought to promise as stroke biomarkers because of their stability in peripheral blood.Sample Size Estimate: 222 participants. Methods and designThe plasma of patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) (n = 111) and non-stroke controls (n = 111) from November 2017 to February 2019 were enrolled in our research. The expression of circDLGAP4 in plasma was evaluated using real-time PCR.Study outcomesIn patients with AIS, circDLGAP4 was significantly decreased in comparison with non-stroke controls. The CircDLGAP4 level had a significant AUC of 0.7896 with 91.72% sensitivity and 64.83% specificity in diagnosing AIS. Furthermore, the circDLGAP4 level was related to smoking history and previous transient ischemic attack/stroke/myocardial infarction in all samples. The change rate in circDLGAP4 within the first 7 days showed an AUC curve of 0.960 in predicting an stroke outcome.ConclusioncircDLGAP4 could serve as biomarker for AIS diagnosis and prediction of stroke outcomes
Penile prosthesis implantation in Chinese patients with severe erectile dysfunction: 10-year experience
We retrospectively evaluated the clinical outcome of penile prosthesis implantation (PPI) in Chinese patients with severe erectile dysfunction (SED). From July 2000 to December 2011, 224 patients (mean age: 35.9±11.8 years, range: 20–75 years) with SED underwent PPI by experienced surgeon according to standard PPI procedure at our centre. A malleable prosthesis (AMS 650) was implanted in 45 cases (20.1%), and a three-piece inflatable prosthesis (AMS 700 CXM or AMS 700 CXR) was implanted in 179 cases (79.9%). Surgical outcomes, including postoperative complications, clinical efficacy and couple satisfaction, were evaluated over than 6 months postoperatively using medical record abstraction, IIEF-5, quality of life (QoL) scores, and the patient/partner sexual satisfaction score proposed by Bhojwani et al. Of the 224 patients eligible for the study, 201 subjects (89.7%) completed follow-up. All of patients could perform sexual intercourse post PPI with the mean postoperative IIEF-5 and QoL scores were 20.02±2.32 and 5.28±0.76, respectively, which were significantly improved compared with the preoperative scores (6.29±1.5 and 2.13±0.84, P<0.01). Of the 201 men, mechanical malfunction occurred in four cases (2.0%) and three cases were re-implanted new device, and two cases (1.0%) developed a mild curvature of the penis. Scrotal erosion with infection occurred in one case with diabetes mellitus (0.5%) and required complete removal of the implanted AMS 700 CXM. Satisfactory sexual intercourse at least twice per month was reported by 178 men (88.6%), and overall satisfaction with the PPI surgery was reported by 89.0% of men and 82.5% of partners. Patient satisfaction in the three-piece inflatable prosthesis group was higher than in the malleable prosthesis group (P<0.05). Satisfaction, however, between the types of prostheses, did not differ in the partner survey. PPI is a safe and effective treatment option for Chinese patients with SED and experienced surgeon perform PPI according to standard PPI procedure could reduce the postoperative complications of PPI and could improve patient satisfaction ratio and QoL
SDSS J013127.34032100.1: A newly discovered radio-loud quasar at with extremely high luminosity
Only very few z>5 quasars discovered to date are radio-loud, with a
radio-to-optical flux ratio (radio-loudness parameter) higher than 10. Here we
report the discovery of an optically luminous radio-loud quasar, SDSS
J013127.34-032100.1 (J0131-0321 in short), at z=5.18+-0.01 using the Lijiang
2.4m and Magellan telescopes. J0131-0321 has a spectral energy distribution
consistent with that of radio-loud quasars. With an i-band magnitude of 18.47
and radio flux density of 33 mJy, its radio-loudness parameter is ~100. The
optical and near-infrared spectra taken by Magellan enable us to estimate its
bolometric luminosity to be L_bol ~ 1.1E48 erg/s, approximately 4.5 times
greater than that of the most distant quasar known to date. The black hole mass
of J0131-0321 is estimated to be 2.7E9 solar masses, with an uncertainty up to
0.4 dex. Detailed physical properties of this high-redshift, radio-loud,
potentially super-Eddington quasar can be probed in the future with more
dedicated and intensive follow-up observations using multi-wavelength
facilities.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, accepted to ApJ
Self-assembling subnanometer pores with unusual mass-transport properties
A long-standing aim in molecular self-assembly is the development of synthetic nanopores capable of mimicking the mass-transport characteristics of biological channels and pores. Here we report a strategy for enforcing the nanotubular assembly of rigid macrocycles in both the solid state and solution based on the interplay of multiple hydrogen-bonding and aromatic π − π stacking interactions. The resultant nanotubes have modifiable surfaces and inner pores of a uniform diameter defined by the constituent macrocycles. The self-assembling hydrophobic nanopores can mediate not only highly selective transmembrane ion transport, unprecedented for a synthetic nanopore, but also highly efficient transmembrane water permeability. These results establish a solid foundation for developing synthetically accessible, robust nanostructured systems with broad applications such as reconstituted mimicry of defined functions solely achieved by biological nanostructures, molecular sensing, and the fabrication of porous materials required for water purification and molecular separations
The LAMOST Complete Spectroscopic Survey of Pointing Area (LaCoSSPAr) in the Southern Galactic Cap I. The Spectroscopic Redshift Catalog
We present a spectroscopic redshift catalog from the LAMOST Complete
Spectroscopic Survey of Pointing Area (LaCoSSPAr) in the Southern Galactic Cap
(SGC), which is designed to observe all sources (Galactic and extra-galactic)
by using repeating observations with a limiting magnitude of in
two fields. The project is mainly focusing on the completeness of
LAMOST ExtraGAlactic Surveys (LEGAS) in the SGC, the deficiencies of source
selection methods and the basic performance parameters of LAMOST telescope. In
both fields, more than 95% of galaxies have been observed. A post-processing
has been applied to LAMOST 1D spectrum to remove the majority of remaining sky
background residuals. More than 10,000 spectra have been visually inspected to
measure the redshift by using combinations of different emission/absorption
features with uncertainty of . In total, there are 1528
redshifts (623 absorption and 905 emission line galaxies) in Field A and 1570
redshifts (569 absorption and 1001 emission line galaxies) in Field B have been
measured. The results show that it is possible to derive redshift from low SNR
galaxies with our post-processing and visual inspection. Our analysis also
indicates that up to 1/4 of the input targets for a typical extra-galactic
spectroscopic survey might be unreliable. The multi-wavelength data analysis
shows that the majority of mid-infrared-detected absorption (91.3%) and
emission line galaxies (93.3%) can be well separated by an empirical criterion
of . Meanwhile, a fainter sequence paralleled to the main population
of galaxies has been witnessed both in / and /
diagrams, which could be the population of luminous dwarf galaxies but
contaminated by the edge-on/highly inclined galaxies ().Comment: 19 pages, 14 figures, 2 MRT, accepted by ApJ
