    Development of PAN (personal area network) for Mobile Robot Using Bluetooth Transceiver

    In recent years, wireless applications using radio frequency (RF) have been rapidly evolving in personal computing and communications devices. Bluetooth technology was created to replace the cables used on mobile devices. Bluetooth is an open specification and encompasses a simple low-cost, low power solution for integration into devices. This research work aim was to provide a PAN (personal area network) for computer based mobile robot that supports real-time control of four mobile robots from a host mobile robot. With ad hoc topology, mobile robots may request and establish a connection when it is within the range or terminated the connection when it leaves the area. A system that contains both hardware and software is designed to enable the robots to participate in multi-agent robotics system (MARS).     Developing the Factors for Management Practices for the Deployment of Green Policy in the Malaysian Construction Industry

    This research paper aims to ascertain the different factors for green policy between the internal and external factors. Although previous studies have tried to address the different factors that affect management practices, however the emphasis has being more on qualitative whereas this study bridges the knowledge gap by providing a valid methodology for assessing the 'management and factors' readiness of the Green policy deployment within the Malaysian construction industry through the general application of management practices and important factors identified. The findings of the paper are based upon a comprehensive literature search and empirical studies conducted with 102 Malaysian Construction Organisations currently utilising various modes of quality systems within their construction projects. Through a survey of data collected, this study empirically refines and validates 6 internal and external factors and 3 management practices deemed necessary for the deployment of Construction Green Policy. The study reports on the operational framework of Management Practices and internal with external factors (MP& IEF) model, which can be used to examine the levels of critical factors relating to the deployment of Green policy. The findings indicate that the MP&IEF model is both reliable and valid. All the Management Practices scored medium levels (means score > 3.00) with the highest being 'Vision’ and ‘Quality and Behaviour’. On the other hand, the most important internal factors for Green policy deployment were found to be 'Environmental/Green Technology’, ‘Training’ and resistance to change. Whilst external factors were found to be ‘Integration with Environmental Management’, ‘New Approaches to Management’ and ‘Shifting Customer Expectation’. The findings suggest that the internal and external factors as the mediator between management practices and green policy observed within the Malaysian construction quality can be transferred within the green policy environment with quality as the leverage for the deployment of green policy. This would contribute to the enhancement of the quality performance within the Malaysian Construction Industry. This paper concludes by presenting a new methodology for assessing the 'management and internal external factors' readiness of Green policy deployment for the Malaysian Construction Organisation. The frameworks presented in form of a hexagonal profile can be used to depict the levels of consideration of the management practices and internal external factors desirable for the Green policy deployment.     Soft Wilson lines in soft-collinear effective theory

    The effects of the soft gluon emission in hard scattering processes at the phase boundary are resummed in the soft-collinear effective theory (SCET). In SCET, the soft gluon emission is decoupled from the energetic collinear part, and is obtained by the vacuum expectation value of the soft Wilson-line operator. The form of the soft Wilson lines is universal in deep inelastic scattering, in the Drell-Yan process, in the jet production from e+e- collisions, and in the gamma* gamma* -> pi0 process, but its analytic structure is slightly different in each process. The anomalous dimensions of the soft Wilson-line operators for these processes are computed along the light-like path at leading order in SCET and to first order in alpha_s, and the renormalization group behavior of the soft Wilson lines is discussed.Comment: 36 pages, 10 figures, 3 table

    A Newly Developed Web-Based Resource on Genetic Eye Disorders for Users With Visual Impairment (Gene.Vision): Usability Study

    Background: Despite the introduction of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and legislations, many websites remain poorly accessible to users with disability, especially those with visual impairment, as the internet has become a more visually complex environment. With increasing reliance on the internet and almost 2 million people in the United Kingdom being affected by vision loss, it is important that they are not overlooked when developing web-based materials. A significant proportion of those affected have irreversible vision loss due to rare genetic eye disorders, and many of them use the internet as a primary source of information for their conditions. However, access to high-quality web-based health information with an inclusive design remains a challenge for many. We have developed a new web-based resource for genetic eye disorders called Gene.Vision that aims to provide a holistic guide for patients, relatives, and health care professionals. Objective: Through a usability testing session of our website prototype, this study aims to identify key web-based accessibility features for internet users with vision impairment and to explore whether the contents provided in Gene.Vision are relevant and comprehensible. Methods: A face-to-face testing session with 8 participants (5 patients, 2 family members, and 1 member of the public) and 8 facilitators was conducted on a prototype website. Remote testing was performed with another patient due to COVID-19 restrictions. Home page design, navigation, content layout and quality, language, and readability were explored through direct observation and task completion using the think-aloud method. A patient focus group was organized to elicit further feedback. Qualitative data were gathered and analyzed to identify core themes through open and axial coding. Results: All participants had good computer literacy; 6 patients with visual impairment used visual aid software including iOS VoiceOver and Speak Screen, iOS Classic Invert, ZoomText 2020, Job Access With Speech, and Nonvisual Desktop Access. The features identified by the participants that will enhance accessibility and usability for users with visual impairment were a consistent website layout, a structured information hierarchy with a clear description of links, good chromatic and luminance contrast, a simple home page with predictable and easy navigation, adaptability to various assistive software, and readable and relevant content. They reported that dynamic content (such as carousels) and large empty spaces reduced accessibility. Information on research, support available, practical advice, and links to charities were incentives for repeated website visits. Conclusions: We demonstrated the importance of developing a website with a user-based approach. Through end user testing, we identified several key web-based accessibility features for people with visual impairment. Target end users should always be involved early and throughout the design process to ensure their needs are met. Many of these steps can be implemented easily and will aid in search engine optimization

    Semi-device-independent bounds on entanglement

    Detection and quantification of entanglement in quantum resources are two key steps in the implementation of various quantum-information processing tasks. Here, we show that Bell-type inequalities are not only useful in verifying the presence of entanglement but can also be used to bound the entanglement of the underlying physical system. Our main tool consists of a family of Clauser-Horne-like Bell inequalities that cannot be violated maximally by any finite-dimensional maximally entangled state. Using these inequalities, we demonstrate the explicit construction of both lower and upper bounds on the concurrence for two-qubit states. The fact that these bounds arise from Bell-type inequalities also allows them to be obtained in a semi-device-independent manner, that is, with assumption of the dimension of the Hilbert space but without resorting to any knowledge of the actual measurements being performed on the individual subsystems.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures (published version).
