Combining Plant Pathogenic Fungi and the Leaf-Mining Fly, Hydrellia pakistanae, Increases Damage to Hydrilla

Four fungal species, F71PJ Acremonium sp., F531 Cylindrocarpon sp., F542, Botrytis sp., and F964 Fusarium culmorum [Wm. G. Sm.] Sacc. were recovered from hydrilla [ Hydrilla verticillata (L. f.) Royle] shoots or from soil and water surrounding hydrilla growing in ponds and lakes in Florida and shown to be capable of killing hydrilla in a bioassay. The isolates were tested singly and in combination with the leaf-mining fly, Hydrellia pakistanae (Diptera: Ephydridae), for their capability to kill or severely damage hydrilla in a bioassay

Pantheism and Escapism in Abu Madi\u27s \u27Enigmas\u27 and \u27The Evening\u27 From English Romanticism Perspectives

In his article Pantheism and Escapism in Abu Madi\u27s \u27Enigmas\u27 and \u27The Evening\u27 From English Romanticism Perspectives Yasser K. R. Aman investigates and analyses the possibilities of pantheism\u27s encirclement of escapism in Elia Abu Madi\u27s two poems from English Romanticism perspective. The article compares Abu Madi\u27s fluctuating attitude towards escapism and pantheism to William Wordsworth\u27s Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey, On Revisiting the Banks of the Wye during a Tour July 13, 1798, Samuel Taylor Coleridge\u27s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and Percy Bysshe Shelley\u27s Ode to the West Wind, highlighting the affinities and differences. The argument of the article is that Abu Madi\u27s skepticism in Engimas (الطلاسم), a representative poem of his works and of contemporary Arab romanticism, hinders him from finding an escape from the here and the now; while in The Evening (المساء), which displays overflow of feelings, Abu Madi makes his escape from the burdens of life and mingles with nature. Therefore, Abu Madi represents the fluctuation of contemporary Arab romantic poets, especially Al Mahjar School: either to embrace pantheism or to retreat in an impenetrable shell of self-isolation

Application of Unified Power Flow Controller to Improve the Performance of Wind Energy Conversion System

    Get PDF
This research introduces the unified power flow controller (UPFC) as a means to improve the overall performance of wind energy conversion system (WECS) through the development of an appropriate control algorithm. Also, application of the proposed UPFC control algorithm has been extended in this research to overcome some problems associated with the internal faults associated with WECS- voltage source converter (VSC), such as miss-fire, fire-through and dc-link faults

Factors Affecting Employee Turnover in a Small Business in Egypt

    Get PDF
Employee turnover has become a common phenomenon in all organizations. It will cost a lot of money and time because organizations need to hire new employees and train them to fill field open positions. There are many different reasons why they choose to leave the organization. So, organizations need to find out the most important reasons to treat and improve it. There are four categories of factors that affect employee turnover: demographic, work, financial-economic and organizational. The demographic category consists of three factors Age, Tenure and Job designation level. The second category which is personal consists of Job Satisfaction and Organizational commitment. While the third category is the organization which consists of payments and benefits, location of workplace, working environment (i.e., flexible working hours), perceive alternative employment opportunities, career promotion and recognition, supervision and relationship, training and improved skills and the last category consists of work stress, work/life balance and field of study. The research design is descriptive with a correlation type of instrumentation to get the effect of variables positively or negatively with the amount. The data will collect via a structured questionnaire. This study has identified several key factors that contribute to employee turnover, including perceived organizational support, job stress, work-life balance, and available job alternatives. The results suggest that organizations can reduce employee turnover by improving perceived organizational support and work-life balance while also minimizing job stress. These findings have important implications for HR management in developing effective retention strategies to retain valuable employees and improve organizational performance

Entanglement Generation by Qubit Scattering in Three Dimensions

A qubit (a spin-1/2 particle) prepared in the up state is scattered by local spin-flipping potentials produced by the two target qubits (two fixed spins), both prepared in the down state, to generate an entangled state in the latter when the former is found in the down state after scattering. The scattering process is analyzed in three dimensions, both to lowest order and in full order in perturbation, with an appropriate renormalization for the latter. The entanglement is evaluated in terms of the concurrence as a function of the incident and scattering angles, the size of the incident wave packet, and the detector resolution, to clarify the key elements for obtaining an entanglement with high quality. The characteristics of the results are also discussed in the context of (in)distinguishability of alternative paths for a quantum particle.Comment: 21 pages, 19 figures, the final versio
