    A comprehensive thermo-viscoelastic experimental investigation of Ecoflex polymer

    Silicone polymers have enormous applications, especially in the areas of biomedical engineering. Ecoflex, a commercially available room temperature cured silicone polymer, has attracted considerable attention due to its wide range of applications as medical-grade silicones and as matrix materials in producing nano-filled stretchable sensors and dielectric elastomers for soft robotics. In this contribution, we have conducted a wide range of experiments under thermo-mechanical loadings. These experiments consist of loading-unloading cyclic tests, single-step relaxation tests, Mullins effects tests at different strain rates and stretches, stress recovery tests at different rest time, etc. In order to assess the temperature influences on Ecoflex, a number of viscoelastic tests are performed in a thermal chamber with temperature ranging from -40°C to 140°C. Extensive experimental findings illustrate that Ecoflex experiences a significant stress softening in the first cycles and such a softening recovers gradually with respect to time. It also shows a significant amount of cyclic dissipations at various stretch levels as well as a considerable stress relaxation only for virgin samples. Cyclic dissipations and stress relaxation almost disappear for the case of pre-stretched samples. Furthermore, the material is more or less sensitive under a wide range of temperature differences

    Evaluation and Analysis Model of Wine Quality Based on Mathematical Model

    This paper takes wine quality evaluation as the research object, establishes the analysis and evaluation model of wine quality, and explores the influence of physical with chemical indicators of wine grapes and wine on the wine quality. Firstly, the Mann-Whitney U test is used to analyze the wine evaluation results of the two wine tasters, and it is found that the significant difference between the two is small. Then this paper uses the Cronbach Alpha coefficient method to analyze the credibility of the two groups of data. It is found that the credibility of the first group of wine scores is significantly greater than that of the second group and the white wine scores are more reliable than the red wine. Therefore, the first set of data and white wine can be applied for follow-up studies. Next, the principal component analysis is used to extract the main indicators and calculate the factor coefficients as the Ward method in cluster analysis is used to classify the wine into four grades according to the quality score of the wine. Then, based on the extracted principal components that is physical with chemical indicators, this paper does the multiple linear regression analysis of wine quality, and takes the influence of aromatic substances on the aroma of wine in physical with chemical indicators as an example. Regression analysis shows that there is a positive correlation linear relationship between the scores of the aroma of wine and C2H6O, C6H12O2, C3H8O, C11H24, C7H12O2, C5H10O2 and C10H16. It can be judged that the aromatic substances in the wine such as C2H6O have a regular influence on the odor of the wine, and it is inferred that other physical and chemical properties have a similar regular relationship with the wine quality. This provides an effective reference for the analysis and evaluation of wine quality by using physical with chemical indicators such as aromatic substances in wine in the future

    Online dynamic flat-field correction for MHz Microscopy data at European XFEL

    The X-ray microscopy technique at the European X-ray free-electron laser (EuXFEL), operating at a MHz repetition rate, provides superior contrast and spatial-temporal resolution compared to typical microscopy techniques at other X-ray sources. In both online visualization and offline data analysis for microscopy experiments, baseline normalization is essential for further processing steps such as phase retrieval and modal decomposition. In addition, access to normalized projections during data acquisition can play an important role in decision-making and improve the quality of the data. However, the stochastic nature of XFEL sources hinders the use of existing flat-flied normalization methods during MHz X-ray microscopy experiments. Here, we present an online dynamic flat-field correction method based on principal component analysis of dynamically evolving flat-field images. The method is used for the normalization of individual X-ray projections and has been implemented as an online analysis tool at the Single Particles, Clusters, and Biomolecules and Serial Femtosecond Crystallography (SPB/SFX) instrument of EuXFEL.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure

    Ecoflex silicone rubbers, served as the polymeric components of flexible electronic devices, actuators, energy converters, etc., are subjected to repetitive loadings during their service lives. The resulting stress softening and stress recovery phenomena can impose complicated impacts on their actual performances. Therefore, the importance of a better understanding of these phenomena needs to be stressed. In this contribution, we focus on the stress recovery behaviour of the Ecoflex silicone rubber in consideration of time and temperature dependences. Our findings show the time-temperature equivalence of the stress recovery behaviour. Based on the experimental study, a constitutive model is developed at finite strains using the Time-Temperature Superposition (TTS) principle to capture both the time and temperature dependences of the stress recovery behaviour of Ecoflex

    Highly Transparent and Zirconia-Enhanced Sol-Gel Hybrid Coating on Polycarbonate Substrates for Self-Cleaning Applications

    To improve the efficacy of polymer-based substrate hybrid coatings, it is essential to simultaneously optimize mechanical strength and preserve the optical properties. In this study, a mixture of zirconium oxide (ZrO2) sol and methyltriethoxysilane modified silica (SiO2) sol-gel was dip-coated onto polycarbonate (PC) substrates to form zirconia-enhanced SiO2 hybrid coatings. Additionally, a solution containing 1H, 1H, 2H, and 2H-perfluorooctyl trichlorosilane (PFTS) was employed for surface modification. The results show that the ZrO2-SiO2 hybrid coating enhanced the mechanical strength and transmittance. The average transmittance of the coated PC reached up to 93.9% (400–800 nm), while the peak transmittance reached up to 95.1% at 700 nm. SEM images and AFM morphologies demonstrate that the ZrO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles were evenly distributed, and a flat coating was observed on the PC substrate. The PFTS-modified ZrO2-SiO2 hybrid coating also exhibited good hydrophobicity (WCA, 113°). As an antireflective coating on PC, with self-cleaning capability, the proposed coating has application prospects in optical lenses and automotive windows

    On the stress recovery behaviour of Ecoflex silicone rubbers

    International audienceSilicone rubbers are promising materials that have extensively been used in many areas, including wearable electronic devices, actuator materials in soft robotics, and energy harvesters. Ecoflex, a commercially available polymer, is a group of silicone rubbers appearing with various Shore hardnesses that has become popular in recent years. While silicone rubbers in their real applications are subjected to repeated loadingunloading conditions, their mechanical behaviour under cyclic loading in different deformation modes and the corresponding stress recovery behaviour are yet to be well investigated. In this contribution, we conduct loading-unloading cyclic experiments in different time gaps between the first cycle and the second cycle to demonstrate the stress recovery behaviour after stress softening happens during the first cycle. For that, three different modes of deformations, i.e., uniaxial tension, planar tension, and equibiaxial tension tests are selected. Besides, Shore hardness dependence with different strain levels is also taken into consideration. The results show that the stress softening could recover significantly with time. These findings will help to understand the mechanical behaviour of Ecoflex silicone rubbers before selecting them in practical applications that are exposed to repeated loading-unloading cycles

    Genotypes and transmitted drug resistance among treatment-naive HIV-1-infected patients in a northwestern province, China: trends from 2003 to 2013.

    BACKGROUND: Transmitted drug resistance (TDR) reduces the efficacy of initial antiretroviral treatment and has become a public health concern. Little information is available regarding the genetic diversity of HIV-1 and the prevalence of TDR among treatment-naïve patients in a northwestern province of China since the implementation of national free antiretroviral therapy (ART). METHODS: Blood samples from 372 HIV-1 treatment-naive patients were collected between 2003 and 2013 in Shaanxi province. Viral RNA was extracted for nested PCR, and phylogenetic reconstruction and recombination analyses were performed to characterize patterns of the HIV-1 subtypes. Genotypic drug resistance testing was performed using an in-house assay to determine trends in the prevalence of HIV-1 transmitted drug resistance. RESULTS: Multiple genotypes were identified among the patients in Shaanxi, including B (25.0%), C (0.3%), G (0.3%), and CRF01_AE (39.2%), CRF07_BC (32.7%), CRF08_BC (0.8%), CRF55_01B (1.1%), and URFs (0.6%). The subtypes were associated with the transmission routes (χ2 = 77.113, p < 0.01). In this study, a low baseline CD4+ T cell count and a high viral load were found among CRF01_AE-infected patients compared with patients who were infected with non-CRF01_AE (p<0.01) through sexual transmission; however, the CRF01_AE subtype was not associated with a low baseline CD4+ T cell count or a high viral load in Chinese patients infected through blood transmission (p = 0.249). The overall TDR rate in this population was 4.4% between 2003 and 2013. A univariate logistic regression model revealed that a low CD4 T cell count (≤ 100 cells/µL) was associated with the development of drug-resistant strains. CONCLUSION: Our work revealed diverse HIV-1 subtype distributions in Shaanxi province. We identified a low and stable TDR time trend among ART-naive patients. These findings enhance our understanding of HIV-1 genetic diversity and provide some guidelines for the improvement and implementation of a comprehensive public health strategy of HIV-1 TDR prevention
