    Superconducting proximity effect to the block antiferromagnetism in Ky_{y}Fe2−x_{2-x}Se2_{2}

    Recent discovery of superconducting (SC) ternary iron selenides has block antiferromagentic (AFM) long range order. Many experiments show possible mesoscopic phase separation of the superconductivity and antiferromagnetism, while the neutron experiment reveals a sizable suppression of magnetic moment due to the superconductivity indicating a possible phase coexistence. Here we propose that the observed suppression of the magnetic moment may be explained due to the proximity effect within a phase separation scenario. We use a two-orbital model to study the proximity effect on a layer of block AFM state induced by neighboring SC layers via an interlayer tunneling mechanism. We argue that the proximity effect in ternary Fe-selenides should be large because of the large interlayer coupling and weak electron correlation. The result of our mean field theory is compared with the neutron experiments semi-quantitatively. The suppression of the magnetic moment due to the SC proximity effect is found to be more pronounced in the d-wave superconductivity and may be enhanced by the frustrated structure of the block AFM state.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure

    An hourglass model for the flare of HST-1 in M87

    To explain the multi-wavelength light curves (from radio to X-ray) of HST-1 in the M87 jet, we propose an hourglass model that is a modified two-zone system of Tavecchio & Ghisellini (hereafter TG08): a slow hourglass-shaped or Laval nozzle-shaped layer connected by two revolving exponential surfaces surrounding a fast spine, through which plasma blobs flow. Based on the conservation of magnetic flux, the magnetic field changes along the axis of the hourglass. We adopt the result of TG08---the high-energy emission from GeV to TeV can be produced through inverse Compton by the two-zone system, and the photons from radio to X-ray are mainly radiated by the fast inner zone system. Here, we only discuss the light curves of the fast inner blob from radio to X-ray. When a compressible blob travels down the axis of the first bulb in the hourglass, because of magnetic flux conservation, its cross section experiences an adiabatic compression process, which results in particle acceleration and the brightening of HST-1. When the blob moves into the second bulb of the hourglass, because of magnetic flux conservation, the dimming of the knot occurs along with an adiabatic expansion of its cross section. A similar broken exponential function could fit the TeV peaks in M87, which may imply a correlation between the TeV flares of M87 and the light curves from radio to X-ray in HST-1. The Very Large Array (VLA) 22 GHz radio light curve of HST-1 verifies our prediction based on the model fit to the main peak of the VLA 15 GHz radio light curve.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in A

    Theory for charge and orbital density-wave states in manganite La0.5_{0.5}Sr1.5_{1.5}MnO4_4

    We investigate the high temperature phase of layered manganites, and demonstrate that the charge-orbital phase transition without magnetic order in La0.5_{0.5}Sr1.5_{1.5}MnO4_4 can be understood in terms of the density wave instability. The orbital ordering is found to be induced by the nesting between segments of Fermi surface with different orbital characters. The simultaneous charge and orbital orderings are elaborated with a mean field theory. The ordered orbitals are shown to be dx2−y2±d3z2−r2d_{x^2-y^2} \pm d_{3z^2-r^2}.Comment: published versio

    The Study of Maximizing Customer Equity by Segmentation: A Modified K-Means Approach

    As segmentation has been one of the central marketing tasks for decades and customer profitability valuation has seen wide study during the past few years, surprisingly, up to this date, there is a gap in marketing research that await a bridge to link up of these two important and closely related dimensions. In this paper, we introduce a decision support system with the goal of maximizing customer equity by segmentation. The decision support system introduced here is unique in that it accommodates the essence of customer profitability valuation into a segmentation scheme in a sensible and flexible manner, that it suggests the number of segments to be determined by the goal of profit maximization instead of some arbitrary numerical criterion, and that central to its technical core the outlier problem which is pervasive in cluster analysis has been addressed by a modified K-Means algorithm so that clustering can reflect the pattern of the majority of ordinary observations in a data set instead of being influenced by a handful of outliers.
