Two-Dimensional Hydrodynamics as a Class of Special Hamiltonian Systems

    Get PDF
The paper defines a class of Hamiltonian systems whose phase flows are exact solutions of the two-dimensional hydrodynamics of an incompressible fluid. The properties of this class are considered. An example of a Lagrangian one-dimensional system is given, which after the transition to the Hamiltonian formalism leads to an unsteady flow, that is, to an exact solution of two-dimensional hydrodynamics. The connection between these formalisms is discussed and the Lagrangians that give rise to Lagrangian hydrodynamics are introduced. The obtained results make it possible to obtain accurate solutions, such as phase flows of special Hamiltonian systems

Generation of GeV protons from 1 PW laser interaction with near critical density targets

The propagation of ultra intense laser pulses through matter is connected with the generation of strong moving magnetic fields in the propagation channel as well as the formation of a thin ion filament along the axis of the channel. Upon exiting the plasma the magnetic field displaces the electrons at the back of the target, generating a quasistatic electric field that accelerates and collimates ions from the filament. Two-dimensional Particle-in-Cell simulations show that a 1 PW laser pulse tightly focused on a near-critical density target is able to accelerate protons up to an energy of 1.3 GeV. Scaling laws and optimal conditions for proton acceleration are established considering the energy depletion of the laser pulse.Comment: 26 pages, 8 figure

Nano-sized Adsorbate Structure Formation in Anisotropic Multilayer System

Abstract In this article, we study dynamics of adsorbate island formation in a model plasma-condensate system numerically. We derive the generalized reaction-diffusion model for adsorptive multilayer system by taking into account anisotropy in transfer of adatoms between neighbor layers induced by electric field. It will be found that with an increase in the electric field strength, a structural transformation from nano-holes inside adsorbate matrix toward separated nano-sized adsorbate islands on a substrate is realized. Dynamics of adsorbate island sizes and corresponding distributions are analyzed in detail. This study provides an insight into details of self-organization of adatoms into nano-sized adsorbate islands in anisotropic multilayer plasma-condensate systems
