ALPHA-TOCOPHEROL STABILIZES ERYTHROCYTE MEMBRANE DURING THE EARLY STAGE AFTER THERMAL TRAUMA
Standard thermal trauma of 3rda - 3rdb degree, of 15-20 per cent of body surface was induced on white male Wistar rats narcotized with thiopental The changes of the concentration of thioharhituric acid (TBA)- reactive products, the activity of some antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD), and catalase as well as the percentage of haemolysis were investigated during the early post-burn period (24, 48, and 72 hours after burning). It was demonstrated that erythrocyte haemolysis increased along with activation of lipid peroxidation (LPO) after thermic injury. Alpha-tocopherol treatment in a dose of 20 mg/kg body mass reduced the elevated levels of TBA-reactive products and enhanced erythrocytic antioxidant defence and resistance. It could be clarified that LPO activation played an important role in the haemolysis and that alpha-tocopherol stabilized erythrocyte membrane after burns
Effects of the Phenolic Antioxidant 2,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole (DTBHA) on Gastric Mucosal Damage and Lipid Peroxidation Status in Cold/Restraint Stressed Rats
The present study aimed the evaluating the effect of the phenolic antioxidant DTBHA afaints gastric mucosal damage induced by cold/restraint stress in rats
MAGNESIUM IN PLASMA AND ERYTHROCYTES OF ELDERLY PATIENTS WITH DEPRESSIVE EPISODES
The present study covers a total of 13 elderly patients suffering from depressive episodes. They were treated in the Gerontopsychiatric Clinic of the Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology, Medical University of Varna. Magnesium levels in plasma and erythrocytes were estimated. In both compartments Magnesium was measured with atomic absorption "Perkin Elmer" spectrophotometer AAS-3030B. The results were compared with magnesium in age-matched healthy subjects. No significant changes of magnesium in plasma and erythrocytes of control persons and depressive elderly patients were found out
Magnetic-field induced multiferroicity in a quantum critical frustrated spin liquid
Dielectric spectroscopy is used to check for the onset of polar order in the
quasi one-dimensional quantum spin system Sul-Cu2Cl4 when passing from the
spin-liquid state into the ordered spiral phase in an external magnetic field.
We find clear evidence for multiferroicity in this material and treat in detail
its H-T phase diagram close to the quantum-critical regime.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures. Revised according to suggestions of referee

Electron spin resonance study of anisotropic interactions in a two-dimensional spin gap magnet PHCC
Fine details of the excitation spectrum of the two-dimensional spin-gap
magnet PHCC are revealed by electron spin resonance investigations. The values
of anisotropy parameters and the orientations of the anisotropy axes are
determined by accurate measurements of the angular, frequency-field and
temperature dependences of the resonance absorption. The properties of a
spin-gap magnet in the vicinity of critical field are discussed in terms of
sublevel splittings and g-factor anisotropy.Comment: submitted to PR
