Bidirectional Graph Reasoning Network for Panoptic Segmentation
Recent researches on panoptic segmentation resort to a single end-to-end
network to combine the tasks of instance segmentation and semantic
segmentation. However, prior models only unified the two related tasks at the
architectural level via a multi-branch scheme or revealed the underlying
correlation between them by unidirectional feature fusion, which disregards the
explicit semantic and co-occurrence relations among objects and background.
Inspired by the fact that context information is critical to recognize and
localize the objects, and inclusive object details are significant to parse the
background scene, we thus investigate on explicitly modeling the correlations
between object and background to achieve a holistic understanding of an image
in the panoptic segmentation task. We introduce a Bidirectional Graph Reasoning
Network (BGRNet), which incorporates graph structure into the conventional
panoptic segmentation network to mine the intra-modular and intermodular
relations within and between foreground things and background stuff classes. In
particular, BGRNet first constructs image-specific graphs in both instance and
semantic segmentation branches that enable flexible reasoning at the proposal
level and class level, respectively. To establish the correlations between
separate branches and fully leverage the complementary relations between things
and stuff, we propose a Bidirectional Graph Connection Module to diffuse
information across branches in a learnable fashion. Experimental results
demonstrate the superiority of our BGRNet that achieves the new
state-of-the-art performance on challenging COCO and ADE20K panoptic
segmentation benchmarks.Comment: CVPR202

Unveiling precipitation behavior in Mg-Y based alloys
Mg-Y based alloys exhibit a promising combination of strength and deformability through tuning precipitation and solute strengthening mechanisms and tailoring the activity of non-basal dislocations. Understanding the precipitation sequence of Mg-Y based alloys and its dependence on Yttrium concentration in the matrix will provide a guideline for fine tuning structure, morphology and distribution of precipitates in Mg-Y based alloys. In this paper, we explore the precipitation behaviors of Mg-11Y (wt%) and Mg-11Y-1Al (wt%) alloys using aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy, and rationalize the experimental observations based on first-principles density functional theory calculations. The precipitation sequence during ageing at 225 °C is identified to be SSSS → clusters/G.P. Zones →β′ (Mg7Y) → β′′/βt′′ (Mg3Y). A novel βt′′ phase forms through in-situ transformation from the β′ phase, which shares the same Mg3Y composition with D019-β′′ phase and exhibits the same cbco-structure as β′ phase in Mg-Y based alloys
Hyperglycemic Myocardial Damage Is Mediated by Proinflammatory Cytokine: Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor
Diabetes has been regarded as an inflammatory condition which is associated with left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD). The purpose of this study was to examine the expression levels of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and G protein-coupled receptor kinase 2 (GRK2) in patients with early diabetic cardiomyopathy, and to investigate the mechanisms involved in MIF expression and GRK2 activation.83 patients in the age range of 30-64 years with type 2 diabetes and 30 matched healthy men were recruited. Left ventricular diastolic function was evaluated by cardiac Doppler echocardiography. Plasma MIF levels were determined by ELISA. To confirm the clinical observation, we also studied MIF expression in prediabetic rats with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and relationship between MIF and GRK2 expression in H9C2 cardiomyoblasts exposed to high glucose.Compared with healthy subjects, patients with diabetes have significantly increased levels of plasma MIF which was further increased in diabetic patients with Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD). The increased plasma MIF levels in diabetic patients correlated with plasma glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin and urine albumin levels. We observed a significant number of TUNEL-positive cells in the myocardium of IGT-rats but not in the control rats. Moreover, we found higher MIF expression in the heart of IGT with cardiac dysfunction compared to that of the controls. In H9C2 cardiomyoblast cells, MIF and GRK2 expression was significantly increased in a glucose concentration-dependant manner. Furthermore, GRK2 expression was abolished by siRNA knockdown of MIF and by the inhibition of CXCR4 in H9C2 cells. Our findings indicate that hyperglycemia is a causal factor for increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokine MIF which plays a role in the development of cardiomyopathy occurring in patients with type 2 diabetes. The elevated levels of MIF are associated with cardiac dysfunction in diabetic patients, and the MIF effects are mediated by GRK2
The Impact of Tides and Monsoons on Tritium Migration and Diffusion in Coastal Harbours: A Simulation Study in Lianyungang Haizhou Bay, China
Many nuclear power plants have been built along China’s coasts, and the migration and diffusion of radioactive nuclides in coastal harbours is very concerning. In this study, considering the decay and free diffusion of radioactive nuclides, a local hydrodynamic model based on the FVCOM was built to investigate the migration and diffusion of the radioactive nuclide tritium in Haizhou Bay, China. This model was calibrated according to the observed tidal level and flow velocity and direction, which provide an accurate background. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of tides and monsoons on the migration path and concentration variations in tritium over time. The results demonstrated that the simulated flow field can reflect real-life receiving waters. The distribution of the tritium concentration is affected by the flow field, which is related to the tides. Moreover, more severe radioactive contamination was exhibited in winter than in summer because monsoons may have hindered the migration and diffusion of tritium within the harbour. Given the poor hydrodynamic conditions and slow water exchange in the open ocean in Haizhou Bay, the diffusion rate of radioactive nuclides outside the bay area was higher than that within it
Coupled relationship between algal assemblages and water, surface sediments in modern shallow lakes of the Songnen Plain
In order to study the influencing factors for the enrichment of organic matter in Mesozoic and Cenozoic shale in lacustrine basins, the Pearson analyses of algal assemblages, physical and chemical properties of water body, sedimentary grain size, magnetic susceptibility and chromaticity were carried out from the aspect of modern lacustrine deposition. The coupled relationship between modern algal assemblages and water body, surface sediments in the Zhongnei Lake, which is a semi-enclosed shallow lake in the Songnen Plain, showed that topography and wind field affected the enrichment of organic matter in semi-enclosed brackish lakes with acidic and mixed water bodies. In different sites of the Zhongnei Lake, the abundance of cyanobacteria, green algae and diatoms are affected by water temperature and has a certain relationship with the degree of sediment sorting. Water temperature and sediment sorting are significantly controlled by the interference of local wind field
