[Cp*IrCl2]2‑Catalyzed Amidocarbonation of Olefins with Sulfoxonium Ylides toward Functionalized Isoindolin-1-ones
A [Cp*IrCl2]2-catalyzed amidocarbonation
of olefins with sulfoxonium ylides has been developed to generate
diverse biologically important isoindolin-1-ones in high efficiency
under mild reaction conditions. Mechanism studies indicated that this
cascade reaction was triggered by amino-iridation of the olefin unit
to generate iridacycle, followed by formal migratory insertion with
sulfoxonium ylides. This newly developed method features broad substrate
scopes and operational simplicity
Evaluation of Antibacterial and Anti-inflammatory Activities of Less Polar Ginsenosides Produced from Polar Ginsenosides by Heat-transformation
Ginsenosides are the major active
constituents in both white and
red American ginseng (AG), and their pharmacological effects on central
nervous, cardiovascular, and endocrine systems have been well elucidated.
However, the anti-<i>Propionibacterium acnes</i> (<i>P. acnes</i>) activity of them is still unknown. In this study,
5 ginsenosides enriched fractions were obtained from the total ginsenosides
extract of AG roots (TAG) by resin adsorption and heat-transformation.
Resin purification decreased the total polyphenol (TP) content in
the fractions. However, heat treatment increased the TP content and
induced extensive conversion of the polar ginsenosides (Rg1, Re, Rb1, Rc, Rb2, Rd, and Gyp XVII) to less
polar compounds (Rg2, Rg3, Rg6/F4, Rs3, and Rg5/Rk1). Only
the heat-treated fraction from 65% methanol elution of the HP-20 column
(HPHF) showed antibacterial activity against <i>P. acnes</i> (ATCC11827, MIC, 128 μg/mL; ATCC6919 MIC, 64 μg/mL), <i>S. epidermidis</i> (MIC, 4100 μg/mL) and <i>S. aureus</i> (MIC, 15000 μg/mL). In the anti-inflammatory activity assay,
10 μg/mL of HPHF significantly (<i>P</i> < 0.05)
inhibited NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. These results
suggest that less polar ginsenosides enriched fraction HPHF obtained
from AG might be useful to develop new types of antibacterial substances
and new skin care cosmetics for acne prevention and therapy

Antioxidant and Antidiabetic Activities of Black Mung Bean (Vigna radiata L.)
Interest
in mung bean as a functional food is growing. The objective
of this study was to characterize the phenolic compounds, antioxidant
activities, and antidiabetic activities of black mung beans. Five
black mung beans were selected, and one green mung bean was included
for comparison. The free phenolic acid and bound phenolic acid contents
ranged from 16.68 to 255.51 μg/g and from 2284.53 to 5363.75
μg/g, respectively, whereas the total anthocyanin contents ranged
from 0 to 810.55 μg/g with cyanidin-3-glucoside as the most
dominant form, respectively. Among the mung beans tested, black mug
bean Xiaoqu 7110 had the highest content of bound phenolic acids and
exhibited the strongest antioxidant capacities (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl,
2,2′-azinobisÂ(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium
salt and oxygen radical absorbance capacity) as compared to the other
tested mung beans. Jiheilv 27-3 exhibited higher antidiabetic activities
(inhibition of α-glucosidase and advanced glycation end products)
