Leveraging RFID in hospitals: patient life cycle and mobility perspectives
The application of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to patient care in hospitals and healthcare facilities has only just begun to be accepted. This article develops a set of frameworks based on patient life cycle and time-and-motion perspectives for how RFID can be leveraged atop existing information systems to offer many benefits for patient care and hospital operations.
It examines how patients are processed from admission to discharge, and considers where RFID can be applied. From a time-and-motion perspective, it shows how hospitals can apply RFID in three ways: fixed RFID readers interrogate mobile objects; mobile, handheld readers interrogate fixed objects; and mobile, handheld readers interrogate mobile objects.
Implemented properly, RFID can significantly aid the medical staff in performing their duties. It can greatly reduce the need for manual entry of records, increase security for both patient and hospital, and reduce errors in administering medication. Hospitals are likely to encounter challenges, however, when integrating the technology into their day-to-day operations. What we present here can help hospital administrators determine where RFID can be deployed to add the most value
The Masterâs Program in Information Systems: A Survey of Core Curricula in AACSB-Accredited Business Schools in the United States
This paper investigates the core curricula of Information Systems (IS) masterâs programs. It examines all 532 AACSB-accredited business schools in the United States and identifies 74 IS masterâs programs. MSIS 2016 and other curricular models and studies are used in a research framework to survey core courses. The top three required courses are Data, Information, and Content Management, Systems Development and Deployment, and Project and Change Management. One unexpected result is that Business Intelligence/Analytics/Data Mining is now the fourth most popular core course, while Business Continuity and Information Assurance is the fifth. The results are compared to those of a 2012 study to examine IS master curriculaâ change over the last decade. Based on actual data on core courses being offered, a new IS masterâs curriculum model is developed
Wireless Communications: Myths and Reality
The use of wireless communications and computing is growing quickly, and wireless technologies are an active area of research and application. Many myths exist about different aspects of wireless computing. The purpose of this article is to examine the more prominent popular beliefs in this area. We address these beliefs using a framework consisting of three dimensions: technology, business, and society. For technology, wireless\u27 limited bandwidth and its effect on new wireless applications and services are discussed. For business, the anticipated revenue opportunities of Wi-Fi and mobile e-commerce are addressed. For society, issues of wireless security and its effect on wireless adoption are examined. Based on these examinations, we propose research directions along each dimension

mechanics in three dimensional rotationally invariant noncommutative space
. We construct the model step-by-step and observe that
physical objects known from previous studies appear in a very natural way.
Nonassociativity became a topic of great interest lately, often in a connection
with magnetic monopoles. We show that this model does not possess this

Inference of dynamic systems from noisy and sparse data via manifold-constrained Gaussian processes
Parameter estimation for nonlinear dynamic system models, represented by
ordinary differential equations (ODEs), using noisy and sparse data is a vital
task in many fields. We propose a fast and accurate method, MAGI
(MAnifold-constrained Gaussian process Inference), for this task. MAGI uses a
Gaussian process model over time-series data, explicitly conditioned on the
manifold constraint that derivatives of the Gaussian process must satisfy the
ODE system. By doing so, we completely bypass the need for numerical
integration and achieve substantial savings in computational time. MAGI is also
suitable for inference with unobserved system components, which often occur in
real experiments. MAGI is distinct from existing approaches as we provide a
principled statistical construction under a Bayesian framework, which
incorporates the ODE system through the manifold constraint. We demonstrate the
accuracy and speed of MAGI using realistic examples based on physical
experiments

The methods include dispersing nanomaterials into the polymers to form polymer nanocompositres, and dyeing the polymer nanocomposites with a dye. ZNF750 is a lineage-specific tumour suppressor in squamous cell carcinoma.
ZNF750 controls epithelial homeostasis by regulating epidermal-differentiation genes, a role underscored by its pathogenic mutations in esophageal squamous cell cancers (SCCs). However, the precise role of ZNF750 in SCC cell biology remains unclear. In this study, we report that ZNF750 is exclusively deleted, mutated and underexpressed in human SCCs, and low ZNF750 expression is associated with poor survival. Restoration of wildtype, but not mutant ZNF750 protein uniquely inhibited the malignant phenotypes of SCC cells both in vitro and in vivo. Notably, ZNF750 promoted the expression of a long non-coding RNA (TINCR), which mediated both cancer-inhibition and differentiation-induction effects of ZNF750. In addition, ZNF750 potently suppressed cell migration by directly inhibiting the transactivation of LAMC2. Together, our findings characterize ZNF750 as a crucial SCC-specific suppressor and uncover its novel anticancer-associated functions
