    The Skopos Theory and Tourist Material Translation: With an Analysis of Mt. Lushan Translation

    With Chinese opening and reform policy, more and more foreigners come to China for sightseeing. With the rapid growth of Chinese tourism industry, a further study in translation of English for tourism is a must, since, now, there exist some problems in translation of English for tourism. This thesis, guided by the Skopostheorie of translation and with the author’s analysis of two English versions of Mt. Lushan, is a tentative endeavor to find some way to solve the existing problems in translation of English for tourism. Key words: The Skopos theory; Tourist material translation; Translation of Mt.     A study of instability in a miniature flying-wing aircraft in high-speed taxi

    AbstractThis study investigates an instability that was observed during high-speed taxi tests of an experimental flying-wing aircraft. In order to resolve the reason of instability and probable solution of it, the instability was reproduced in simulations. An analysis revealed the unique stability characteristics of this aircraft. This aircraft has a rigid connection between the nose wheel steering mechanism and an electric servo, which is different from aircraft with a conventional tricycle landing gear system. The analysis based on simulation results suggests that there are two reasons for the instability. The first reason is a reversal of the lateral velocity of the nose wheel. The second reason is that the moment about the center of gravity created by the lateral friction force from the nose wheel is larger than that from the lateral friction force from the main wheels. These problems were corrected by changing the ground pitch angle. Simulations show that reducing the ground pitch angle can eliminate the instability in high-speed taxi

    Urbanization has entered a new phase characterized by urban changes occurring at a micro-scale and “under the roof”, as opposed to external modifications. These changes, known as urban retrofitting, involve the incorporation of novel technologies or features into pre-existing systems to promote sustainability. Given the limitations of remote sensing images in identifying such urban changes, novel tools need to be developed for detecting urban retrofitting. In this study, we first build a pipeline to collect large-scale time-series urban street view images from Google Street View in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
