LED-Induced Fluorescence System for Tea Classification and Quality Assessment
A fluorescence system is developed by using several light emitting diodes
(LEDs) with different wavelengths as excitation light sources. The fluorescence
detection head consists of multi LED light sources and a multimode fiber for
fluorescence collection, where the LEDs and the corresponding filters can be
easily chosen to get appropriate excitation wavelengths for different
applications. By analyzing fluorescence spectra with the principal component
analysis method, the system is utilized in the classification of four types of
green tea beverages and two types of black tea beverages. Qualities of the Xihu
Longjing tea leaves of different grades, as well as the corresponding liquid
tea samples, are studied to further investigate the ability and application of
the system in the evaluation of classification/quality of tea and other foods
Application of fibrin glue with bandage contact lens in pterygium surgery
AIM: To explore the efficacy of fibrin glue with bandage contact lens for pain relief after pterygium surgery performed with limbal autograft transplantation.
METHODS: A prospective clinical trial was carried out in 52 patients(72 eyes)operated for primary nasal pterygium. All patients were randomly divided into the fibrin glue with bandage contact lens group(experimental group, 28 cases, 38 eyes)and suture group(control group, 24 cases, 34 eyes). Autologous limbal graft taken from the superotemporal limbus was used to cover the sclera after pterygium excision under local anesthesia with 20g/L lidocaine. In experimental group, the transplant was attached to the sclera with fibrin tissue adhesive and in control group with 10-0 Virgin silk sutures. Experimental group weared bandage contact lens after surgery while the control group did not. The degree of pain after surgery was evaluated at 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7d after surgery. Follow-up was 6mo, matching degree of graft and complication such as infection, relapse, implant healing badness and subconjunctival cyst were mainly observed and recorded.
RESULTS: The pain index scores of the experimental group were significantly less than those of control group(all P=0.000). In observation period, all conjunctival autografts in both groups were successfully attached and were intact without falling off, dissolution or recurrence and there were no complications such as infection, relapse, implant healing badness and subconjunctival cyst.
CONCLUSION: Fibrin glue with bandage contact lens could significantly release pain response afterpterygium excision surgery

Transversus abdominis plane block reduces remifentanil and propofol consumption, evaluated by closed-loop titration guided by bispectral index.
The present prospective, randomized, double-blind study aimed to determine the impact of transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block on propofol and remifentanil consumption, when administered by closed-loop titration guided by processed electroencephalography, i.e., bispectral index (BIS) values. Following institutional review board approval, 60 patients were scheduled for laparoscopic colectomy under general anesthesia. Patients were randomly assigned to receive bilateral TAP block with 20 ml 0.375% ropivacaine (TAP group) or 20 ml 0.9% saline [control (CON) group]. General anesthesia was maintained with propofol and remifentanil administration using closed-loop titration guided by BIS values. The primary outcome was perioperative propofol and remifentanil consumption. The secondary outcomes were hypertensive or hypotensive events requiring treatment, recovery time in PACU and time to first rescue analgesia following surgery. A total of 58 patients participated in the present study. At similar depths of anesthesia, as measured by BIS during the maintenance phase (45-55), patients who received TAP blocks required less propofol (4.2±1.3 vs. 5.5±1.6 mg/kg/h; P<0.001) and remifentanil (0.16±0.05 vs. 0.21±0.05 µg/kg/min; P<0.001). Time to extubation was significantly shorter in the TAP group (9.8±3.2 min) than in the CON group (14.2±4.9 min) (P<0.05). The requirement to treat hemodynamic change was also significantly lower (P<0.05). Pain score at 2 h after surgery was also significantly reduced in the TAP group compared with the CON group (P<0.05), whereas the time to first rescue analgesia was delayed in patients who received TAP block (P<0.05). Postoperative nausea and vomiting occurred at comparable rates in each group (P>0.05). In conclusion, TAP block combined with general anesthesia reduced propofol and remifentanil consumption, shortened time to tracheal extubation and promoted hemodynamic stability in laparoscopic colectomy
Bis[μ-1,2-bisÂ(1H-imidazol-1-ylmethÂyl)benzene-κ2 N 3:N 3′]disilver(I) 3-carboxylÂato-4-hydroxyÂbenzeneÂsulfonate methanol solvate trihydrate
In the title compound, [Ag2(C14H14N4)2](C7H4O6S)·CH3OH·3H2O, the complex dication has a binuclear structure in which each AgI ion is two-coordinated in a slightly distorted linear coordination geometry. The two AgI atoms are bridged by two 1,2-bisÂ[(1H-imidazol-1-yl)methÂyl]benzene (IBI) ligands, forming a 22-membered ring. In the dication, π–π interÂactions are observed between the imidazole rings with centroid–centroid distances of 3.472 (3) and 3.636 (3) Å. In the crystal, the uncoordinated water molÂecules, anions and methanol solvent molÂecules are linked into chains along the b axis by O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In addition, π–π interÂactions are observed between the benzene rings of the IBI ligands, with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.776 (2) Å. The sulfonate group is disordered over two orientations with occupancies of 0.676 (12) and 0.324 (12)
trans-TetraÂkis(1-allyl-1H-imidazole-κN 3)bisÂ(thioÂcyanato-κN)nickel(II)
The structure of the title compound, [Ni(NCS)2(C6H8N2)4], consists of isolated molÂecules of [Ni(NCS)2(Aim)4] (Aim = 1-allylÂimidazole), which contain a distorted octaÂhedral NiN6 chromophore. The NCS− anions are trans and four N atoms from the 1-allylÂimidazole ligands define the equatorial plane. The mean Mn—N(Aim) and Mn—N(NCS) distances are 2.105 (2) and 2.098 (2) Å, respectively. Weak C—H⋯N interÂactions contribute to the crystal packing stability
