    Increase Factors of China’s Agricultural Products Exporting to Member Countries of Shanghai Cooperation Organization

    Purpose-China’s agricultural product exporting to the member countries of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) appeared the trends of faster increase. In order to further enhance the agricultural trade and cooperation, this paper will verify the increasing factors of China’s agricultural products exporting to the SCO member countries. Design/Methodology/Approach-The Constant Market share Model (CMS) with two-level decomposition is used to identify different factors, among which the increase effect is the main increase factor, and then the covering increase factors are summarized. Findings-The increase factors of China’s agricultural products exporting to SCO the Member Countries were appeared in different types, however, to some extent the constraining effects are highly similar. Originality/Value-This study is the first to carry out the analysis on the increase factor in the case of China’s agricultural products exporting to the SCO member countries. This article aims to make an introduction to the construction of China's higher education libraries, especially the recent three decades' achievements since China's reform and opening-up in 1978. In this article, the authors draw a general picture of the development of libraries in China's higher education institutions, covering such eight aspects as management, types and positioning, organizational structure and personnel, expenditure and buildings, reader service, building and sharing of resources as well as automation system.</p

    The stochastic lot-sizing problem with quantity discounts

    This paper addresses the stochastic lot-sizing problem with quantity discounts. In particular, we examine the uncapacitated finite-period economic lot-sizing problem in which the parameters in each period are random and discrete. When an order is placed, a fixed cost is incurred and an all-unit quantity discount is awarded based on the quantity ordered. The lead time is zero and the order is delivered immediately. First we study the case with overstocks by which the excess inventory incurs a holding cost. The objective in this case is to minimize the expected total cost including ordering and holding costs. The stochastic dynamics is modeled with a scenario tree. We characterize properties of the optimal policy and propose a polynomial time algorithm with complexity O ( n 3 ) for single discount level, where n is the number of nodes in the scenario tree. We extend the results to cases allowing stockout and multi-discount levels. Numerical experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the algorithm and to gain the man- agement insights

    Transduced PEP-1-Heme Oxygenase-1 Fusion Protein Attenuates Lung Injury in Septic Shock Rats

    Oxidative stress and inflammation have been identified to play a vital role in the pathogenesis of lung injury induced by septic shock. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), an effective antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic substance, has been used for the treatment of heart, lung, and liver diseases. Thus, we postulated that administration of exogenous HO-1 protein transduced by cell-penetrating peptide PEP-1 has a protective role against septic shock-induced lung injury. Septic shock produced by cecal ligation and puncture caused severe lung damage, manifested in the increase in the lung wet/dry ratio, oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. However, these changes were reversed by treatment with the PEP-1-HO-1 fusion protein, whereas lung injury in septic shock rats was alleviated. Furthermore, the septic shock upregulated the expression of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and transcription factor NF-κB, accompanied by the increase of lung injury. Administration of PEP-1-HO-1 fusion protein reversed septic shock-induced lung injury by downregulating the expression of TLR4 and NF-κB. Our study indicates that treatment with HO-1 protein transduced by PEP-1 confers protection against septic shock-induced lung injury by its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic effects

    Three-Dimensional Culture of Hybridoma Cells Secreting Anti-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin by a New Rolling Culture System

    Cell growth rate and production of monoclonal antibody (MAb) of hybridoma cells producing anti-human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) MAb have been used as investigation criteria in double-mouthed rolling bottle (DMRB). Compared with T-flask cell culture, both of the cell number and MAb production increased by approximately 42.5% when the medium was supplemented with 5% fetal calf serum (FCS) and DMRB rotated at 2 turns per minute. Yield of MAb was experimentally related to the number of viable cells. Interestingly, MAb yield was four times as high as that cultured in T-flask in the first 24 hours, and about 75% yield of total MAb was secreted by 48 hours during the culture. It appears that the promoted cell growth and MAb yield are resulted from the three-dimensional growth of hybridoma cells under a suitably revolving condition

    Knockdown of Snail Sensitizes Pancreatic Cancer Cells to Chemotherapeutic Agents and Irradiation

    The prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer remains poor; only patients with small tumors and complete resection have a chance of a complete cure. Pancreatic cancer responds poorly to conventional therapies, including chemotherapy and irradiation. Snail is a transcription factor that has been associated with anti-apoptotic and chemoresistant properties in pancreatic cancer cells. In this study, we investigated whether knockdown of Snail suppresses growth of and/or sensitizes pancreatic cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents and irradiation through induction of apoptosis. An adeno-associated virus vector was used to deliver Snail siRNA and knockdown Snail expression in untreated pancreatic cancer cells and in pancreatic cancer cells treated with chemotherapeutic agents or γ-irradiation. Our data indicate that our adeno-associated virus vector can efficiently deliver Snail siRNA into PANC-1 cells both in vitro and in vivo, resulting in the knockdown of Snail expression at the mRNA and protein levels. We further show that knockdown of Snail expression results in potent growth suppression of pancreatic cancer cells and suppresses xenograft tumor growth in vivo through induction of apoptosis. Finally, knockdown of Snail expression significantly sensitizes pancreatic cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents and γ-irradiation through induction of apoptosis. In conclusion, our findings indicate that Snail is an important modulator of therapeutic responses of pancreatic cancer cells and is potentially useful as a sensitizer in pancreatic cancer therapy
