    Critical Analysis of 40 Years of Education Reform in Educational Leadership Preparation in China

    The success of a principal often depends on the preparation quality. The United States attaches great importance to the cultivation of educational leadership, and has established various professional organizations to study and manage the cultivation of educational leadership, which has promoted the continuous improvement of the cultivation plan of American educational leadership. In the past 40 years of China’s reform and opening up, the preparation level of principals in primary and secondary schools has risen from undergraduate to postgraduate. However, at present, it still shows the importance of on-the-job training of principals in primary and secondary schools, while neglecting the research and reform of pre service education activities of educational leaders, which leads to the standardization and professionalism of preparation methods of educational leaders to be improved. Therefore, we can learn from the preparation experience of American, combine with the actual situation of China, attach great importance to the professional training of education leaders, carry out extensive relevant academic research, enhance the direction leading role of education value and social responsibility, systematically design the preparation program of education leaders, and truly build a diversified social support and promotion network, improve the preparation effect of educational leadership in an all-round way

    What is learning in service-learning? Findings from service-learning research at Beijing Normal University

    What is learning in service-learning? The question was put forward decades ago but has not been answered clearly in the international context. Focused on this important issue, we conducted a series of studies with mixed method approach. We surveyed 844 college students and 6203 middle school students respectively in mainland China. Results indicated that most students had some experience of service activities. However, the quality of such practice was not satisfying in the aspects of duration, intensity and link to curriculum. Based on the above investigation, we conducted a service-learning program through the course of Psychology of Learning for undergraduate students of Psychology Department in Beijing Normal University. The instructor, together with teaching assistants who had rich experience on special education, gave a two hour lecture in class each week and guided students to interact with special children (the mentally retarded, autism) in groups at weekend during one semester. Following the basic procedure of service-learning, students were encouraged to apply what they learned in classroom to the service practice and to reflect the effectiveness of their behavior modification plans for special children as well as their own thoughts, feelings and behaviors during interactive process. Especially, students were asked to think critically about issues on inclusion, welfare and social support for special children and their families. Students received feedbacks on their reflection journals and discussions after every service practice. This program had been conducted for about 3 semesters successively in BNU and more than 200 undergraduate students engaged in it. Data were collected and analyzed from interactive video, group discussion and focused group interview, self-report surveys, reflection journals and feedbacks from parents of special children. In general, the program had great effects on students’ attitude to special children and their families. Students showed significant change from unconcerned, wondering, sympathetic, or credit-driven at the beginning to caring, patient, empathetic, and problem-solving driven at the end of service practice. Results also indicated that service-learning improved students’ higher cognitive abilities such as transfer abilities of problem solving, critical thinking and students’ academic expertise, such as Applied Behavior Analysis skills

    Gypenosides improve the intestinal microbiota of non-alcoholic fatty liver in mice and alleviate its progression

    Abstract(#br)Gypenosides (GP) are a type of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) extracted from plants and commonly applied for treatment of metabolic diseases. This study aims to explore the effects of GP extracts on alleviating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). In this experiment, C57BL/6 J mice were randomly assigned into normal diet control (ND), HFHC (high-fat and high-cholesterol) and HFHC + GP (GP) groups. Mice in HFHC group were fed HFHC diet combined with fructose drinking water for 12 weeks to induce the animal model of NAFLD, followed by ordinary drinking water until the end of the experiment. In the HFHC + GP group, mice were fed HFHC diet combined with fructose drinking water for 12 weeks, followed by GP-containing drinking water till the end. Mouse body weight was measured weekly. After animal procedures, mouse liver and serum samples were collected. It is shown that GP administration reduced body weight, enhanced the sensitivity to insulin resistance (IR) and decreased serum levels of ALT, AST and TG in NAFLD mice. In addition, GP treatment alleviated steatohepatitis, and downregulated ACC1, PPARÎł, CD36, APOC3 and MTTP levels in mice fed with HFHC diet. Furthermore, GP treatment markedly improved intestinal microbiota, and reduced relative abundance ratio of Firmicutes / Bacteroidetes in the feces of NAFLD mice. Our results suggested that GP alleviated NAFLD in mice through improving intestinal microbiota

Data results from WAVE and AChecker evaluations indicate that although the error of Missing Form Labels still occurs in these websites, other known accessibility errors and issues have been significantly improved from five years ago
