A network-aware virtual machine placement and migration approach in cloud computing

    Get PDF
Cloud computing represents a major step up in computing whereby shared computation resources are provided on demand. In such a scenario, applications and data thereof can be hosted by various networked virtual machines (VMs). As applications, especially data-intensive applications, often need to communicate with data frequently, the network I/O performance would affect the overall application performance significantly. Therefore, placement of virtual machines which host an application and migration of these virtual machines while the unexpected network latency or congestion occurs is critical to achieve and maintain the application performance. To address these issues, this paper proposes a virtual machine placement and migration approach to minimizing the data transfer time consumption. Our simulation studies suggest that the proposed approach is effective in optimizing the data transfer between the virtual machine and data, thus helping optimize the overall application performance

    Get PDF
Holographic optical element has a high diffraction efficiency and a narrow-band frequency characteristic, and it has a characteristic that is able to implement several features in a single flat device. It is widely applied in various fields. In this chapter, the principle and characteristics of the holographic optical elements are described in detail, and few typical holographic optical element-based applications, such as head-mounted display, lens array, and solar concentrator, are introduced. Finally, the futuristic research concepts for holographic optical element-based applications and contents are discussed

New Permittivity Measurement from Surface of Sea to 5500 m Depth of Sea using Sea Water Real Time Data from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(USA)

In this paper we used modified version of  Ellison et al model 1998 for Permittivity  measurements of sea water , in past this model is used as a reference model  for permittivity measurements of sea water .The only demerit of this model is that it used Debye model  interpolation function” Δ (t,s,v) “ on 3 GHz fixed frequency and used unchanged salinity concentration of sea water ,which is not feasible in practical because salinity of sea water  varies with each depth of sea due to changeable inorganic compounds concentrations  like, Potassium nitrate ,sodium chlorides, and magnesium sulfate concentrations .The Ellison et al model 1998  are also not used for permittivity measurement at depth of sea water ,it used data as a supposition, practical or real time data is not used in it. In this paper we bring some changes to Ellison et al model 1998 and used Debye model interpolation function  ” Δ (t,s,v) “ on 2-40 GHz frequency and used varying salinity and Temperature from National centers for environmental information ,which is mostly called National oceanic and atmospheric administration (USA).which comprises of real time data in form of temperature and salinity from surface of sea to depth of 5500 m . we used Mat lab as a simulation tool to find the permittivity of sea water from surface of sea to depth of 5500 m

The Influencing Path of Public Engaging Intention in the Value Co-Creation of E-Gov ServicesAn Empirical Investigation

    Get PDF
The wide acceptability of ICTs and social media enriches the delivery platform of e-gov services (EGS). EGS is an important interaction and collaboration channel between the government and the public. The public can conveniently and timely explore problems, provide ideas, and design solutions to improve EGS. The roles of the public changed to active, informed partners or co- creators of EGS innovation and problem solving. This study builds the influence factor model on public engaging intention of value co-creation for EGS based on technology acceptance theory, trust theory, and motivation theory to explore impact factors and impact paths. Path analysis interpreted how the public would accept and adopt value co-creation behavior for EGS. This study also introduced a comprehensive picture of the new paradigm of public service value creation in an era of increasing user dominance, that is, the public

Abstract—Cloud computing represents a major step up in computing whereby shared computation resources are provided on demand. Dietary Quercetin Increases Colonic Microbial Diversity and Attenuates Colitis Severity in Citrobacter rodentium-Infected Mice

    Get PDF
Disturbed balance between microbiota, epithelial cells, and resident immune cells within the intestine contributes to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) pathogenesis. The Citrobacter rodentium-induced colitis mouse model has been well documented. This model allows the analysis of host responses to enteric bacteria and facilitates improved understanding of the potential mechanisms of IBD pathogenesis. The current study evaluated the effects of dietary 30 mg/kg quercetin supplementation on C. rodentium-induced experimental colitis in C57BL/6 mice. Following dietary quercetin supplementation, the mice were infected with 5 × 108 CFU C. rodentium, and the pathological effects of C. rodentium were measured. The results showed that quercetin alleviated the effects of C. rodentium-induced colitis, suppressed the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-17, tumor necrosis factor alpha, and IL-6 (p < 0.05), and promoted the production of IL-10 in the colon tissues (p < 0.05). Quercetin supplementation also enhanced the populations of Bacteroides, Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Clostridia and significantly reduced those of Fusobacterium and Enterococcus (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that dietary quercetin exerts therapeutic effects on C. rodentium-induced colitis, probably due to quercetin’s ability to suppress pro-inflammatory cytokines and/or modify gut microbiota. Thus, these results suggest that quercetin supplementation is effective in controlling C. rodentium-induced inflammation

Exploiting W. Ellison model for seawater communication at gigahertz frequencies based on world ocean atlas data

    Get PDF
Electromagnetic (EM) waves used to send signals under seawater are normally restricted to low frequencies (f) because of sudden exponential increases of attenuation (α) at higher f. The mathematics of EM wave propagation in seawater demonstrate dependence on relative permeability (ÎŒr), relative permittivity (Δr), conductivity (σ), and f of transmission. Estimation of Δr and σ based on the W. Ellison interpolation model was performed for averaged real‐time data of temperature (T) and salinity (S) from 1955 to 2012 for all oceans with 41088 latitude/longitude points and 101 depth points up to 5500 m. Estimation of parameters such as real and imaginary parts of Δr, Δrâ€Č, Δr″, σ, loss tangent (tan ÎŽ), propagation velocity (Vp), phase constant (ÎČ), and α contributes to absorption loss (La) for seawater channels carried out by using normal distribution fit in the 3 GHz–40 GHz f range. We also estimated total path loss (LPL) in seawater for given transmission power Pt and antenna (dipole) gain. MATLAB is the simulation tool used for analysis

Digital signal processor-based real-time optical Doppler tomography system

We present a real-time data-processing and display unit, based on a custom-designed digital signal processor (DSP) module for imaging tissue structure and Doppler blood flow. The DSP module is incorporated into a conventional optical coherence tomography system. We also demonstrate the flexibility of embedding advanced Doppler processing algorithms in the DSP module. Two advanced velocity estimation algorithms previously introduced by us are incorporated in this DSP module. Experiments on Intralipid flow demonstrate that a pulsatile flow of several hundred pulses per minute can be faithfully captured in M-scan mode by this DSP system. In vivo imaging of a rat's abdominal blood flow is also presented.Electrical and Computer Engineerin
