    Revisiting Stereo Triangulation in UAV Distance Estimation

    Distance estimation plays an important role for path planning and collision avoidance of swarm UAVs. However, the lack of annotated data seriously hinders the related studies. In this work, we build and present a UAVDE dataset for UAV distance estimation, in which distance between two UAVs is obtained by UWB sensors. During experiments, we surprisingly observe that the stereo triangulation cannot stand for UAV scenes. The core reason is the position deviation issue due to long shooting distance and camera vibration, which is common in UAV scenes. To tackle this issue, we propose a novel position correction module, which can directly predict the offset between the observed positions and the actual ones and then perform compensation in stereo triangulation calculation. Besides, to further boost performance on hard samples, we propose a dynamic iterative correction mechanism, which is composed of multiple stacked PCMs and a gating mechanism to adaptively determine whether further correction is required according to the difficulty of data samples. We conduct extensive experiments on UAVDE, and our method can achieve a significant performance improvement over a strong baseline (by reducing the relative difference from 49.4% to 9.8%), which demonstrates its effectiveness and superiority.     ROS-Induced GATA4 and GATA6 Downregulation Inhibits StAR Expression in LPS-Treated Porcine Granulosa-Lutein Cells

    LPS is a major endotoxin produced by gram-negative bacteria, and exposure to it commonly occurs in animal husbandry. Previous studies have shown that LPS infection disturbs steroidogenesis, including progesterone production, and subsequently decreases animal reproductive performance. However, little information about the underlying mechanisms is available thus far. In the present study, an in vitro-luteinized porcine granulosa cell model was used to study the underlying molecular mechanisms of LPS treatment. We found that LPS significantly inhibits progesterone production and downregulates the expressions of progesterone synthesis-associated genes (StAR, CYP11A1, and 3β-HSD). Furthermore, the levels of ROS were significantly increased in an LPS dose-dependent manner. Moreover, transcriptional factors GATA4 and GATA6, but not NR5A1, were significantly downregulated. Elimination of LPS-stimulated ROS by melatonin or vitamin C could restore the expressions of GATA4, GATA6, and StAR. In parallel, StAR expression was also inhibited by the knockdown of GATA4 and GATA6. Based on these data, we conclude that LPS impairs StAR expression via the ROS-induced downregulation of GATA4 and GATA6. Collectively, these findings provide new insights into the understanding of reproductive losses in animals suffering from bacterial infection and LPS exposure

    Conception Rate and Reproductive Hormone Secretion in Holstein Cows Immunized against Inhibin and Subjected to the Ovsynch Protocol

    This study was conducted to investigate the feasibility of improving fertility in dairy cows via immunization against inhibin. Thirty-two cows were divided into Control (n = 11), Low-dose (n = 10) and High-dose (n = 11) groups. The High-dose and Low-dose cows were treated with 1 and 0.5 mg of the inhibin immunogen, respectively. All the cows were subjected to the Ovsynch protocol from the day of antigen administration and were artificially inseminated. Blood samples were serially collected over a 24-day period from the start of the Ovsynch protocol to 14 days after insemination. The results showed that immunization against inhibin dose-dependently increased the plasma concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol (E2), and activin A, but decreased progesterone (P4) concentrations in the luteal phase. Immunization also increased the plasma interferon (IFN)-τ concentrations in pregnant cows on day 14 after initial insemination. The conception rates in High-dose (45.5%) and Low-dose (40%) cows marginally increased compared to that in Control cows (27.3%), but the increases were not significant (p > 0.05). In conclusion, a single immunization against inhibin has the potential to improve conception rates, despite impaired luteal development. To further improve the reproductive performance of dairy cows, additional luteal-stimulating treatments are suggested in combination with immunization against inhibin and Ovsynch techniques

    Tunable and white light emitting AlPO4 mesoporous glass by design of inorganic/organic luminescent species

    The realization of tunable and white light emitting sources employed by UV-LED with single-host phosphors has been an exciting development in the search for high luminous efficiency and excellent color rendering index white-light source. A tunable and white light emitting mesoporous glass was prepared by utilizing both inorganic/organic (Europium/coumarin) luminescent species in the meso-structure. The tunable and white light emission was deliberately designed by CIE calculation based on the individual emission spectra, which was realized by tailoring the emission of Eu2+/Eu3+ ions and coumarin 535 in sol-gel AlPO4 mesoporous glass. This simple and versatile procedure is not limited in the combination of rare earth and organic dye and is therefore extendable to other luminescent species in meso-structure for color-tunable efficient solid-state lighting sources

    Ga<sub>4</sub>B<sub>2</sub>O<sub>9</sub>: An Efficient Borate Photocatalyst for Overall Water Splitting without Cocatalyst

    Borates are well-known candidates for optical materials, but their potentials in photocatalysis are rarely studied. Ga<sup>3+</sup>-containing oxides or sulfides are good candidates for photocatalysis applications because the unoccupied 4s orbitals of Ga usually contribute to the bottom of the conducting band. It is therefore anticipated that Ga<sub>4</sub>B<sub>2</sub>O<sub>9</sub> might be a promising photocatalyst because of its high Ga/B ratio and three-dimensional network. Various synthetic methods, including hydrothermal (HY), sol–gel (SG), and high-temperature solid-state reaction (HTSSR), were employed to prepare crystalline Ga<sub>4</sub>B<sub>2</sub>O<sub>9</sub>. The so-obtained HY-Ga<sub>4</sub>B<sub>2</sub>O<sub>9</sub> are micrometer single crystals but do not show any UV-light activity unless modified by Pt loading. The problem is the fast recombination of photoexcitons. Interestingly, the samples obtained by SG and HTSSR methods both possess a fine micromorphology composed of well-crystalline nanometer strips. Therefore, the excited e<sup>–</sup> and h<sup>+</sup> can move to the surface easily. Both samples exhibit excellent intrinsic UV-light activities for pure water splitting without the assistance of any cocatalyst (47 and 118 μmol/h/g for H<sub>2</sub> evolution and 22 and 58 μmol/h/g for O<sub>2</sub> evolution, respectively), while there is no detectable activity for P25 (nanoparticles of TiO<sub>2</sub> with a specific surface area of 69 m<sup>2</sup>/g) under the same conditions

Small inorganic molecules, H<sub>3</sub>BO<sub>3</sub> and H<sub>3</sub>B<sub>3</sub>O<sub>6</sub>, are confined inside structural channels by multiple hydrogen bonds. It is the first example to experimentally show the structural template effect of boric acid in flux synthesis

    Background: This study assessed the effects of esmolol injection in patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) with refractory ventricular fibrillation (VF)/pulseless ventricular tachycardia (pVT).Methods: From January 2018 to December 2021, 29 patients with IHCA with refractory shockable rhythm were retrospectively reviewed. Esmolol was administered after advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS)-directed procedures, and outcomes were assessed.Results: Among the 29 cases, the rates of sustained return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), 24-h ROSC, and 72-h ROSC were 79%, 62%, and 59%, respectively. Of those patients, 59% ultimately survived to discharge. Four patients with cardiac insufficiency died. The duration from CA to esmolol infusion was significantly shorter for patients in the survival group (SG) than for patients in the dead group (DG) (12 min, IQR: 8.5–19.5 vs. 23.5 min, IQR: 14.4–27 min; p = 0.013). Of those patients, 76% (22 of 29) started esmolol administration after the second dose of amiodarone. No significant difference was observed in the survival rate between this group and groups administered an esmolol bolus simultaneously or before the second dose of amiodarone (43% vs. 64%, p = 0.403). Of those patients, 31% (9 of 29) were administered an esmolol bolus for defibrillation attempts ≤ 5, while the remaining 69% of patients received an esmolol injection after the fifth defibrillation attempt. No significant differences were observed in the rates of ≥ 24-h ROSC (67% vs. 60%, p = 0.73), ≥ 72-h ROSC (67% vs. 55%, p = 0.56), and survival to hospital discharge (67% vs. 55%, p = 0.56) between the groups administered an esmolol bolus for defibrillation attempts ≤ 5 and defibrillation attempts > 5.Conclusion: IHCA patients with refractory shockable rhythms receiving esmolol bolus exhibited a high chance of sustained ROSC and survival to hospital discharge. Patients with end-stage heart failure tended to have attenuated benefits from beta-blockers. Further large-scale, prospective studies are necessary to determine the effects of esmolol in patients with IHCA with refractory shockable rhythms.</p
