    Pitch Contour of Japanese Traditional Verse

    In this thesis I conduct experiments to investigate how pitch pattern is realized in Japanese Traditional Verses. My observation consists of four parts: (i) investigation of lexical pitch and accentual combinations of Contemporary haiku in prose and in verse (ii) investigation of lexical pitch and accentual combinations of Basho’s traditional haiku (iii) observation of Nonsense haiku and (iv) pitch range measurements of Contemporary haiku in prose and in verse. As a result, the following characteristics are found: Japanese speakers (i) tend to recite Contemporary haiku that include familiar lexemes with expected pitch patterns, compared with Basho’s Traditional haiku that include more lexemes unfamiliar to the subjects (ii) have two major pitch template choices, which I term “Plateau” and “Default”, when reciting Nonsense verses, and the occurrences of these pitch patterns are supported by Japanese phonological notions such as default-accent, downstep or declining, and (iii) tend to read haiku in verse with a wider pitch range than that in prose. This thesis shows that a generalization of poetic recitation performance among human languages is as valuable as a study of poetic forms from texts. The findings from the observations suggest that diversity among speakers’ recitations of Japanese verses is also phonologically explainable, and sheds light on the studies of prosody and metrical theory in general linguistics

    High-temperature creep strength and room-temperature fracture toughness of MoSiBTiC alloy

    Quite recently, the author and his coworkers have developed a new high-temperature material based on Mo-Si-B alloys with TiC addition for ultrahigh temperature applications. The alloys are produced not by powder sintering but by casting, and the constituent phases are of Mo solid solution, Mo5SiB2 (T2), (Ti, Mo)C and (Mo, Ti)2C. The density is reduced to less than 9.0 g/cm3, which is comparable to that of Ni-base superalloys. The high-temperature compressive strength is much stronger than that of commercial heat-resistant molybdenum alloys such as TZM and MHC in a wide high-temperature range. In this paper, the recent progress of our research and development of the MoSiBTiC alloys is reviewed focusing on high-temperature creep strength and room temperature fracture toughness. The alloy having a primary phase during solidification of (Ti, Mo)C and thus a higher (Ti, Mo)C volume fraction was examined for tensile creep properties, and it was found that the alloy showed typical tensile creep curves accompanying transient, steady-state and acceleration creep stages in all the test conditions. The creep strength was relatively good, for example, the rupture time at 1350 °C under 170 MPa was about 750 h. The stress exponents, n, in the temperature range of 1400 – 1600 °C and the stress range of 100 – 300 MPa were ≈ 3 while it was 5 – 6 at 1350 °C, suggesting that the rate-controlling process of creep deformation is different between at and below 1350 °C and at and above 1400 °C in the stress range. Room-temperature fracture toughness of the MoSiBTiC alloys was measured by three-point or four-point bending tests using Chevron-notched specimens. The alloy having the primary phase of (Ti, Mo)C showed the fracture toughness value of better than 15 MPa(m)1/2 at room temperature. The value was better than that of the alloy having a primary phase of Moss and thus a higher Moss volume fraction. The obtained results indicated that (Ti, Mo)C phase works for improving not only high-temperature strength but also room-temperature fracture toughness

    Focal frontal epileptiform discharges in a patient with eyelid myoclonia and absence seizures

    AbstractEyelid myoclonia with absences is classified as a unique type of generalized seizure. Its pathogenesis is proposed to involve the functional abnormalities in cortical–subcortical networks. Here, we describe the case of a 7-year-old boy who had eyelid myoclonia with absences, along with focal motor seizures. Video-EEG monitoring demonstrated eyelid myoclonia associated with 4- to 5-Hz generalized polyspike–waves preceded by focal frontal discharges. Interictal EEG showed focal epileptiform discharges over the frontal regions. Our case suggests an important role of the frontal lobe in the generation of eyelid myoclonia with absences

    Mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 signaling opposes the effects of anchorage loss, leading to activation of Cdk4 and Cdc6 stabilization

    AbstractWhen deprived of an anchorage to the extracellular matrix, fibroblasts arrest in the G1 phase with inactivation of Cdk4/6 and Cdk2 and destruction of Cdc6, the assembler of prereplicative complexes essential for S phase onset. How cellular anchorages control these kinases and Cdc6 stability is poorly understood.     保育者が捉える子どもの「気になる」行動に関する文献検討

    目的:文献検討により、保育者が子どものどのような行動を「気になる」と捉えているのかを明らかにした。方法:2001年から2022年9月までの文献を「保育」「気になる」「行動」のキーワードで検索した。24文献を対象とし、保育者が「気になる」と捉えている行動を抽出し、特徴の類似性を分析した。結果:子どもの「気になる」行動は、集団活動ができないなどの保育者が困っている「気になる」行動、他児と関われないなどの他児への関心の示し方が定形発達にみえない「気になる」行動、不器用などの子ども本人が困っているようにみえる「気になる」行動、他児への乱暴などの他児が困っているようにみえる「気になる」行動の4つに大別された。考察:保育者は子どもの目にとまりやすい行動から、目にとまりにくい行動まで様々な行動を「気になる」と捉えており、「気になる」行動をとる子どもを考慮したクラスづくりをしていることが考えられた

    Albumin-conjugated PEG liposome enhances tumor distribution of liposomal doxorubicin in rats

    To evaluate the effect of coupling of recombinant human serum albumin (rHSA) onto the surface of poly(ethylene glycol)-modified liposorne (PEG liposome) on the in vivo disposition characteristics of liposomal doxorubicin (DXR), the pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of DXR were evaluated after intravenous administration of rHSA-modified PEG (rHSA/PEG) liposomal DXR into tumor-bearing rats. rHSA/PEG liposome prepared using a hetero-bifunctional cross-linker, N- succinimidyl 3-(2-pyridyldithio) propionate (SPDP), efficiently encapsulated DXR (over 95%). rHSA/PEG liposomal DXR showed longer blood-circulating property than PEG liposornal DXR and the hepatic and splenic clearances of rHSA/PEG liposornal DXR were significantly smaller than those of PEG liposomal DXR. It was also demonstrated that the disposition of DXR to the heart, one of the organs for DXR-related side-effects, was significantly smaller than free DXR. Furthermore, the tumor accumulation of rHSA/PEG liposomal DXR was significantly larger than that of PEG liposomal DXR. The &#34;therapeutic index&#34;, a criterion for therapeutic outcome, for rHSA/PEG fiposornal DXR was significantly higher than PEG liposomal DXR. These results clearly indicate that rHSA-conjugation onto the surface of PEG liposome would be a useful approach to increase the effectiveness and safety of PEG liposomal DXR.</p
