Textile industry in Nupeland
Man became conscious of whom he was when he took sedimentary life. The consciousness led to the need to cover his body either from nakedness, to look beautiful or in response to the harsh weather; and to keep the body warm. This began with the use of leaves to animal skins then to the weaving and production of fabric for clothing. Though no one can said when clothing or textiles began in the world and in Nupeland in particular, no doubt it has a fair long history and has undergone changes overtime. It is in the light of this that using historical methodology of both primary and secondary sources, the paper investigate textile industry in Nupeland. Using content analysis, the paper concluded that the industry in Nupeland had benefitted from the technology and skills of neighbouring communities before it became synonymous with the Nupe. The industry has also declined due to modern production
Evaluation of selected parameters of rat liver and kidney function following repeated administration of yohimbine.
The effects of administration of yohimbine, an aphrodisiac on some functional parameters of rat liver and kidney were investigated. White male albino rats weighing between 200-250g were grouped into two such that one group was orally administered with 14mg/kg body weight on daily basis for 15days while the control received an appropriate volume of sterile distilled water on daily basis for the same period. Bilirubin concentration in the test showed a significant decrease (P<0.01) when compared with the control, with an interruption of a significant increase only on day 5 of administration (P<0.01). Sodium ion concentration showed significant increase only on the first and the last days when compared with the control (P<0.01). The serum albumin content and K+ displayed significant increase throughout the experimental period (P<0.01) while serum content of urea and creatinine decreased significantly throughout the period of administration (P<0.01). The results suggest that yohimbine administration has adverse affect on the functional capacities of the liver and the kidney.Key words: Functional parameters, Kidney, Liver, Yohimbin
Inter-Functional Coordination and Firm Performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Yobe State, Nigeria
The study investigated the effect of inter-functional coordination on firm performance of SMEs in Yobe State, Nigeria. The study adopted cross-sectional survey design. The target population was 363 participants who were either SMEs owners or managers. The sample size was 190 respondents. The main research instrument was questionnaire. Data was analyzed using linear regression analysis. The study revealed that inter-functional coordination significantly affects firm performance (Adjusted R2=0.319, p=0.000). The study concluded that inter-functional coordination has an influence on firm performance. The study recommended that SMEs owners and managers should invent ways of ensuring that departments work jointly by sharing knowledge and information broadly with all departments and employees and by acting in a coordinated and customer focused manner. This would lead to serving customers to their utmost satisfaction across different departments. Keywords: Inter-functional coordination, firm performance, SMEs, Yobe State, Nigeria. The Politics of Restructuring and the Nigerian Unity: The Role of the Leadership
The Nigerian political system, to a very large extent, since independence in 1960, has continued to be marked by divisions along ethnic, religious and class lines. The primodial identity symbols appear to have been capitalized on and manipulated by the political class and the elite to gain undue advantage in electoral contests, which have almost become a recovering decimal of the Nigerian politics. The result of this phenomenon has been a lack of patriotic leadership with nationalistic tendencies and equity-induced service delivery in the political affairs of our country. Our attempt at this Conference therefore, is to give a critical analysis of the politics surrounding the concept of restructuring and Nigeria unity vise-vise the role of the leadership

The target population was 363 participants who were either SMEs owners or managers. The sample size was 190 respondents. The main research instrument was questionnaire. Data was analyzed using linear regression analysis. The study found that customer orientation significantly explains 25.6% of the total variance in marketing innovation (Adjusted R2=0.256, p=0.000). The study concluded that customer orientation significantly affects marketing innovation. The study recommended that SMEs in Yobe State should employ well planned and mechanized way of handling customer complaints, customer satisfaction level and gather customer demographic characteristics using market research survey with the intent of meeting customers’ needs and demands. Evaluation of some Varieties of Okra (Abelmoschusesculentus) Seed Oil for Consumption and Industrial Uses
The demand for seeds oil is rapidly increasing due to the growth of the human population and the resulting increase in its consumption for both domestic and industrial uses. Hence, seed oils from three okra (Abelmoschusesculentus) varieties – Clemson spineless, ex-Samaru and NHAE-74 were extracted and their physicochemical properties were analysed and compared with some conventional seed oils. The percentage oil yield of the seeds determined for NHAE-74 (25.67±0.58 %) is significantly higher (p < 0.05) than Clemson spineless (24.33±0.29 %) and ex-Samaru (23.05±0.50 %). The acid value (3.65±0.02, 1.96±0.01 and 2.24±0.02 mgKOH/g), Iodine Value (114.59±0.01,110.97±0.02 and 111.67±0.02 mg/100g) and Saponification value (122.02±0.19, 130.43±0.04 and 124.82±0.02 meqKOH/kg) of Clemson spineless, ex-Samaru and NHAE-74, respectively differ significantly (p < 0.05) among the three varieties, while the peroxide value (meqKOH/kg) of Clemson spineless (3.92±0.14) is significantly lower (p < 0.05) than the values of NHAE-74 (5.33±0.14) and ex-Samaru (5.00±0.25). The results further showed that the seed oil has a quality comparable to those of conventional oils and has great nutritional and industrial potentials
ICONOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS ON FEMI FANI-KAYODE’S VISUAL GENRE OF CARTOONS AND POLITICAL COMMUNICATION
Cartoon is a journalistic genre that is presented in simple, sort and catchy formats, which appeal to human sense and consequently allows for quick reception of the messages being communicated. Adejuwon & Alimi in Bello (2022) argued that cartoons serve as medium through which people are informed, educated, and entertained by presenting societal happenings in a hilarious manner. According to Bello, editorial cartoons are designed to satirise current political issues, and offer subtle criticism cleverly coated with humour and satire. Cartoons amuse, yet they are veritable means of exposing social ills and strategic way of conveying messages of deep meaning magnitude
Socioeconomic Determinants of the Use of Social Media among Agricultural Undergraduates in North-West Nigeria
This study assessed the socioeconomic determinants of use of social media among agriculture undergraduates in North-west Nigeria. Three States were purposively selected out of 7, and 250 students were randomly selected from the States. Data were collected with the aid of a questionnaire. Results of the data analysis revealed that 76.4% of the students had monthly income of ?10,000-?30,000; 55.20% of them spent 10-29 hours per week using the social media. Result of the regression analysis on the relationship between socioeconomic characteristics and use of social media shows that age, marital status and monthly income were statistically significant at 10% (p< 0.1); years of formal education and access to internet were both significant at 5% (p< 0.5). Among the social media applications tools used by the respondents, Facebook had the highest users (=3.18), it was then closely followed by WhatsApp (=3.02). Ownership of computer, smartphones and internet access were determinants to use of social media. Monthly income was the major constraint. Social media has fasten the pace at which students communicate, socialize, and, learn. The Nigerian communication commission should enforce a downward review of data bundles that can reduce the cost, also network coverage should be improved by service providers
