Lead and uranium group abundances in cosmic rays

    Get PDF
The importance of Lead and Uranium group abundances in cosmic rays is discussed in understanding their evolution and propagation. The electronic detectors can provide good charge resolution but poor data statistics. The plastic detectors can provide somewhat better statistics but charge resolution deteriorates. The extraterrestrial crystals can provide good statistics but with poor charge resolution. Recent studies of extraterrestrial crystals regarding their calibration to accelerated uranium ion beam and track etch kinetics are discussed. It is hoped that a charge resolution of two charge units can be achieved provided an additional parameter is taken into account. The prospects to study abundances of Lead group, Uranium group and superheavy element in extraterrestrial crystals are discussed, and usefulness of these studies in the light of studies with electronic and plastic detectors is assessed

Impact of Fiscal Policy Shocks on the Indian Economy Swati Yadav , V.Upadhyay , Seema Sharma Abstract In this paper, we analyse the impact of fiscal shocks on the Indian economy using structural vector autoregression (SVAR) methodology. The study uses quarterly data for the period 1997Q1 to 2009Q2. Two different identification schemes have been used to assess the effects of shocks to government spending and tax revenues on output. The recursive scheme is based on the Cholesky decomposition and the second identification scheme Blanchard & Perrotti (1999) technique of using information on tax system to identify the SVAR model. We find that the impulse responses obtained from both identification schemes behave in a similar fashion but the value of multipliers differs. Also the shock to tax variable has a bigger impact on GDP than the government spending shock. In the extended four variable VAR model the effects of fiscal shocks on private consumption has been assessed using the recursive identification scheme. Findings indicate that the tax variable has larger impact on private consumption as compared to the government spending variable. In the short run the impact of expansionary fiscal shocks follow Keynesian tradition but the long run response is mixed.SVAR, Fiscal shocks, Multipliers

Growth, Characterization, Vortex Pinning and Vortex Flow Properties of Single Crystals of Iron Chalcogenide Superconductor FeCr0.02_{0.02}Se

We report the growth and characterization of single crystals of iron chalcogenide superconductor FeCr0.02_{0.02}Se. There is an enhancement of the superconducting transition temperature (Tc_{\rm c}) as compared to the Tc_{\rm c} of the single crystals of the parent compound Fe1+x_{1+x}Se by about 25%. The superconducting parameters such as the critical fields, coherence length, penetration depth and the Ginzburg-Landau parameter have been estimated for these single crystals. Analysis of the critical current data suggests a fluctuation in electronic mean free path induced (δl\delta l) pinning mechanism in this material. Thermally activated transport across the superconducting transition in the presence of external magnetic fields suggests a crossover from a single vortex pinning regime at low fields to a collective flux creep regime at higher magnetic fields. The nature of charge carriers in the normal state estimated from the Hall effect and thermal transport measurements could provide crucial information on the mechanism of superconductivity in Fe-based materials.Comment: 2 additional figures, additional discussion on nature of charge carrier
