pETM: a penalized Exponential Tilt Model for analysis of correlated high-dimensional DNA methylation data
Motivation: DNA methylation plays an important role in many biological processes and cancer progression. Recent studies have found that there are also differences in methylation variations in different groups other than differences in methylation means. Several methods have been developed that consider both mean and variance signals in order to improve statistical power of detecting differentially methylated loci. Moreover, as methylation levels of neighboring CpG sites are known to be strongly correlated, methods that incorporate correlations have also been developed. We previously developed a network-based penalized logistic regression for correlated methylation data, but only focusing on mean signals. We have also developed a generalized exponential tilt model that captures both mean and variance signals but only examining one CpG site at a time

Effects of Polypyrrole/Graphene Oxide Composites with Different Reaction Times on Electrochemical Performance
Graphene oxide (GO) was prepared using the modified Hummers method and used as a template for polypyrrole. Polypyrrole was polymerized in situ on the surface of GO to finally obtain the polypyrrole/graphene oxide composite material. The effects of different reaction times on the electrochemical performance of polypyrrole/graphene oxide in the second step were studied. It was obtained that the composite material had optimal properties when the reaction time was 24 h
Synthesis and Characterization of 4,4′-Dibromoazobenzene
Abstract:Â Azobenzene molecules show excellent application potential in many fields due to their photoisomerization properties. Azobenzene molecules will gradually change from trans-structure to cis-structure under the irradiation of UV. In this paper, we have synthesized 4,4'-dibromoazobenzene molecules and characterized their photoisomerization properties. We found that with the extension of UV time, the trans absorption peak at 343 nm decreased significantly, while the cis absorption peak at 435 nm showed an upward trend. Furthermore, photoisomerization of azobenzene is not a first-order reaction
Near-threshold photoproduction of in two-gluon exchange model
The near-threshold photoproduction of is regarded as one golden
process to unveil the nucleon mass structure, pentaquark state involving the
charm quarks, and the poorly constrained gluon distribution of the nucleon at
large (). In this paper, we present an analysis of the current
experimental data under a two-gluon exchange model, which shows a good
consistency. Using a parameterized function form with three free parameters, we
have determined the nucleonic gluon distribution at the mass scale.
Moreover, we predict the differential cross section of the electroproduction of
as a function of the invariant mass of the final hadrons , at EicC,
as a practical application of the model and the obtained gluon distribution.
According to our estimation, thousands of events can be detected per
year on EicC near the threshold. Therefore, the relevant experimental
measurements are suggested to be carried out on EicC.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figure
HIF-1α Contributes to Hypoxia-induced Invasion and Metastasis of Esophageal Carcinoma via Inhibiting E-cadherin and Promoting MMP-2 Expression
Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) has been found to enhance tumor invasion and metastasis, but no study has reported its action in esophageal carcinoma. The goal of this study was to explore the probable mechanism of HIF-1α in the invasion and metastasis of esophageal carcinoma Eca109 cells in vitro and in vivo. mRNA and protein expression of HIF-1α, E-cadherin and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) under hypoxia were detected by RT-PCR and Western blotting. The effects of silencing HIF-1α on E-cadherin, MMP-2 mRNA and protein expression under hypoxia or normoxia were detected by RT-PCR and Western blotting, respectively. The invasive ability of Eca109 cells was tested using a transwell chambers. We established an Eca109-implanted tumor model and observed tumor growth and lymph node metastasis. The expression of HIF-1α, E-cadherin and MMP-2 in xenograft tumors was detected by Western blotting. After exposure to hypoxia, HIF-1α protein was up-regulated, both mRNA and protein levels of E-cadherin were down-regulated and MMP-2 was up-regulated, while HIF-1α mRNA showed no significant change. SiRNA could block HIF-1α effectively, increase E-cadherin expression and inhibit MMP-2 expression. The number of invading cells decreased after HIF-1α was silenced. Meanwhile, the tumor volume was much smaller, and the metastatic rate of lymph nodes and the positive rate were lower in vivo. Our observations suggest that HIF-1α inhibition might be an effective strategy to weaken invasion and metastasis in the esophageal carcinoma Eca109 cell line
