Asymptotic Behavior of Gravitational Wave on the Brane World

    Get PDF
We consider the Cauchy problem of the gravitational wave with the initial data distributed only around the brane in the one brane model of Randall and Sundrum, and examine its behavior as t\to\infty. Then we find its leading behavior is t^{-6} unlike an ordinary flat 5-dimensional space-time. Such a signal shows that the Huygens principle is violated on the 4-dimensional brane world even asymptotically and also shows the difference between compact and non-compact brane worlds. Some comments are also given related to AdS/CFT correspondence.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figure, LaTeX2e(PTPTeX style). v2: typos correcte

Matrix Model for Dirichlet Open String

We discuss the open string ending on D pp-branes in IKKT framework. First we determine the boundary conditions of Green-Schwarz superstring which are consistent with supersymmetry and κ\kappa-symmetry. We point out some subtleties arising from taking the Schild gauge and show that in this gauge the system incorporates the limited dimensional D pp-branes (p=3,7p=3,7). The matrix regularization for the Dirichlet open string is given by gauge group SO(N). When p=3p=3, the matrix model becomes the dimensional reduction of a 6 dimensional N=1{\cal N}=1 super Yang-Mills theory.Comment: 9 pages, LaTe

Observables and Correlation Functions in OSp Invariant String Field Theory

    Get PDF
We define BRST invariant observables in the OSp invariant closed string field theory for bosonic strings. We evaluate correlation functions of these observables and show that the S-matrix elements derived from them coincide with those of the light-cone gauge string field theory.Comment: 23 page

Light-Cone Gauge String Field Theory in Noncritical Dimensions

We study light-cone gauge string field theory in noncritical space-time dimensions. Such a theory corresponds to a string theory in a Lorentz noninvariant background. We identify the worldsheet theory for the longitudinal coordinate variables X±X^\pm and study its properties. It is a CFT with the right value of Virasoro central charge, using which we propose a BRST invariant formulation of the worldsheet theory.Comment: 27 pages, 2 figure

D-brane States and Annulus Amplitudes in OSp Invariant Closed String Field Theory

In the OSp invariant closed string field theory, we construct the states corresponding to parallel D-branes that are located at different points in the space-time. Using these states, we evaluate annulus amplitudes. We show that the results coincide with those of first quantized string theory.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figure

    1) Moina Macrocopa STRAUS appears in the carp-culture ponds in May, but disappears during following eleven months, from June to April of the following year remaining dormant in the form of winter eggs kept in the bottom silt. 2) Population growth of Moina in the ponds was investigated, and it is classified into three types. The first is characteristic by the sharp decline of the parthenogenetic reproduction which then shifts to the bisexual phase. In the second type the growth shows a fluctuation taking a wave shape, and in this type considerable population growth is expected. The third differs fundamentally from those above mentioned. In this case two distinct species of Moina come into being showing their growth peaks at different times. 3) Community of Moina even in the neighboring ponds shows different patterns, and there its great fluctuations are met with occasionally. 4) The amount of the winter eggs of Moina was from 6×105 to 5×104/m2 on the bottom of the pond, and their survival rate were estimated as 2-3%. 5) 'Sleeping' of the winter eggs of Moina is explained as that it is a kind of inhibition of development enforced by environmental factors, and is not a delayed germination attributable to their own inherent character. 6) Ammonia is undoubtedly effectively related with the sleeping, but the best method to preserve sleeping eggs for a long time is the use of bottom silt. 7) Two types of winter egg formation exist in nature, but in the carp-culture ponds the type of successive formation of the winter eggs by the same mother is common, and this is the reason why there exists such a great amount of winter eggs in the ponds. 8) Non existence of the pseudosexual eggs was experimentally proved. 9) A sexual reproduction of a parasitic fungus, Lagenidium sp., was proved clearly by the infection experiments of its zoospores to the healthy winter eggs of Moina. This fungus is available to know the activity of the egg development

D-branes and Closed String Field Theory

We construct solitonic states in the OSp invariant string field theory, which are BRST invariant in the leading order of regularization parameter. One can show that these solitonic states describe D-branes and ghost D-branes, by calculating the scattering amplitudes.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, based on an invited talk presented at the international workshop "Progress of String Theory and Quantum Field Theory" (Osaka City University, December 7-10, 2007), to be published in the proceeding

Many useless benthic animals are contained in the catches of small trawlers. Small crabs are one of these unutilized resources. Attempt was made to use these animals as food in rearing of the Kuruma prawn, Penaeus japonicus BATE. The experiment was carried out using these small crabs and clam meat during low-temperature season from late October to late December, 1964. Comparison of the growth between the two groups fed on clam meat only and on the mixture of clam and crabs, respectively, clarified that the latter group grew more rapidly than the former. Molting was observed only at temperatures above 15°C. in both groups. A positive correlation was shown between the feeding rate per day and the mean temperature of 10-day period; namely, at 12°C., the feeding rate was as low as about 2%, and with the elevation of temperature, especially above 16-17°C., increased remarkably. Furthermore, the correlation between the feeding rate per day and the growth rate was also positive, revealing that the daily ration necessary for the maintenance of body might be 2-3 % of the body weight. The prawn fed with the mixture of clam and crab meat took the two kinds of food in approximately the same clam/crab ratio as was given. This fact seems to show that in the feeding of the prawn there is no selectivity as to the two kinds of food
