    Necrotizing Pancreatitis with Hypertriglyceridemia Development Results: A Case Report

    Acute pancreatitis due to hypertriglyceridemia is a relatively rare clinical entity. Acute pancreatic necrosis is a life threatening form of acute pancreatitis in which early recognition and treatment is important. Necrotising pancreatitis should be treated immediately. We presented a case of pancreatic necrosis due to hypert¬riglyceridemia which required surgical intervention. We performed necrosectomy. After surgery the patient recovered. We presented the case in order to mention necrotising pancreatitis arising from hypertriglyceridemia and requiring surgical exploration

    Bridging diversity: a deliberative approach to organizing and application of usability guidelines

    Designing interaction for the global society entails addressing multiple issues and challenges, ranging from the technical and economic to the legal and ethical. Usability guidelines recommend or prescribe courses of action and thus play a significant role in designing universally usable systems. Approaches to organizing and applying usability guidelines need to support processes of deliberation and tradeoff, especially when designing for bridging diversity in shared interaction contexts. This paper describes a deliberative approach to addressing some of these design challenges in a rational way. It argues for organizing guidelines by using concepts from Habermas’s discourse theory and Toulmin’s model of argumentation. Application of the approach is illustrated through a set of research-based Web design and usability guidelines. This paper contributes to the HCI literature by providing a theory-based approach to managing and deliberating on many usability guidelines and related usability issues

    Bringing Discourse Ethics to Value Sensitive Design: Pathways toward a Deliberative Future

    Value Sensitive Design (VSD) is a comprehensive framework for advancing a value-centered research and design agenda. It provides methods for producing and evaluating a design outcome by taking human values into account. Drawing on discourse ethics, this paper first critically analyzes the status quo in VSD and identifies some gaps. These mainly concern the lack of explicit methods for supporting a deliberative and legitimate process of decision making with respect to many concerns, including the identification of stakeholders, the legitimation of common design communication, the justification of trade-offs and/or a common regulation in case of competing or incommensurable values, as well as the deliberativeness of other design decisions such as the selection of design goals and means. In addition, this paper suggests ways to move VSD toward the standards of discourse ethics by drawing on the knowledge base of critical research in the Information Systems field. In particular, the suggestions concern the inclusion of a practical method for boundary critique and different types of discourses and principles as well as discourse support methods and tools for structuring participation in a way that allows participants to deal with the plurality of values, norms, goals and means deliberatively. Finally, this paper revisits a VSD case and explores the applicability of the ideas suggested

    A SET OF CRITICAL HEURISTICS FOR VALUE SENSITIVE DESIGNERS AND USERS OF PERSUASIVE SYSTEMS

    This paper proposes a set of critical questions to guide reflections on persuasive systems. The questions are mainly based on value-based practical reasoning as suggested in argumentation research. Value based reasoning is involved in any persuasive design discourse to assess the purposiveness, goodness or rightness of system actions to be designed. In this approach, the critical questions are structured according to practical discourses suggested by Habermas (1993) in order to help focusing on, and guiding, pragmatic, ethical, and moral discourses of persuasive system design and use. This paper contributes to the current research by enriching reflective methods with a set of concrete questions which can in particular be employed for a value sensitive participatory design of persuasive systems. This article is conceptual-theoretical by its nature. It illustrates the applicability of the approach by employing it to analyze a commercial webbased persuasive system

    We provide upper bounds on the L(p,q)L(p,q)-labeling number of graphs which have interval (or circular-arc) representations via simple greedy algorithms. We prove that there exists an L(p,q)L(p,q)-labeling with span at most max⁥{2(p+q−1)Δ−4q+2,(2p−1)ÎŒ+(2q−1)Δ−2q+1}\max\{2(p+q-1)\Delta-4q+2, (2p-1)\mu+(2q-1)\Delta-2q+1\} for interval kk-graphs, max⁥{p,q}Δ\max\{p,q\}\Delta for interval graphs, max⁥{p,q}Δ+pω\max\{p,q\}\Delta+p\omega for circular arc graphs, 2(p+q−1)Δ−2q+12(p+q-1)\Delta-2q+1 for permutation graphs and (2p−1)Δ+(2q−1)(Ό−1)(2p-1)\Delta+(2q-1)(\mu-1) for cointerval graphs. In particular, these improve existing bounds on L(p,q)L(p,q)-labeling of interval and circular arc graphs and L(2,1)L(2,1)-labeling of permutation graphs.     METAPHORICAL PERCEPTIONS OF FACULTY OF EDUCATION STUDENTS REGARDING SPECIAL EDUCATION

    This research examines the metaphorical perceptions of teacher candidates at the Faculty of Education, and is designed using the case study method. It was conducted with the participation of 68 teacher candidates studying at Amasya University's Faculty of Education during the 2022-2023 academic year. The research included students from the English Language Teaching and Turkish Language Teaching departments. A two-phase form was used by researchers to determine the metaphorical perceptions of the participants related to special education. In the first phase, participants were asked to complete the sentence "Special education is like...." in order to determine which aspect of special education they associated with; instruction processes, profession, educational structure, difficulty-hardship, goal-purpose, love, tool-equipment, material-tool-equipment, benefit, guide, opportunity and need. In the second phase, participants were asked to explain their associations by filling in the section starting with "Because...". Data analysis was done by descriptive and content analysis. The findings of the research show that the total of 592 metaphors produced by the teacher candidates were grouped under 11 themes: “Profession”, “Educational Structure”, “Instruction Processes”, “Tool-Equipment-Material”, “Benefit”, “Goal-Purpose”, “Love”, “Guide”, “Need”, “Opportunity”. The results of the study reveal that teacher candidates produced the most metaphors in the areas of Educational Structure (174), Instruction Processes (96), Need (63) and Benefit (60)

    A Kinetic Study on Photocatalytic and Sonophotocatalytic Degradation of Textile Dyes

    In the present study, an artificial effluent solution was used for investigating the degradation of dyestuffs by sonolytic, photocatalytic and sonophotocatalytic methods in the presence of TiO2. This solution contained the mixture of C. I. Acid Red 27, C. I. Disperse Red 92 and C. I. Acid Orange 10 dyestuffs. The effect of parameters such as initial concentration of dyestuffs, light intensity, the amplitude of sonolysis and temperature on the degradation processes was studied. When the degradation data of the three methods for constant parameters were compared after 80 min.; the degradation values were approximately 19, 68 and 82 % for sonolytic, photocatalytic and sonophotocatalytic processes respectively. According the results purely sonolysis has an inconsiderable effect for the degradation of dyes. Also, when the parameters were applied for determining the kinetics of processes the sonophotocatalytic degradation rate followed pseudo-first order kinetics with respect to concentration of dyestuff analogously photocatalytic process. It was observed that the reaction rate accelerated in the presence of ultrasound energy in the course of the experiments. The most effective process was sonophotocatalytic on the degradation and an equation was derived including the effect of sonolysis for sonophotocatalytic degradation kinetics

    DIFFERENT VARIABLES INVESTIGATION OF ATHLETIC IDENTITY IN TEAM SPORT

    The aim of this study is to determine the relationship of athletic identity between different variables such as license period, sport branch and the conditions of national players.The research group has been established of 485 athletes who struggle on the top platform in various sport branches in Turkey leagues. As data collection tool,the athlete identity scale was used in research.At the evaluation of data: frequency, mean, standard deviation, scales, Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient,t-test for independent groups, one-way analysis of variance for independent groups (ANOVA), simple correlation analysis and simple linear regression analysis methods were used. According to the findings, athlete identity varies significantly for the license period and nationalities of variables but does not cause any difference for sport branch.The findings obtained from the study may suggest that it is possible to create a productive sport life with a strong athlete identity.&nbsp

    THE EFFECTS OF REALISTIC MATHEMATICS EDUCATION ON STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENTS AND ATTITUDES IN FIFTH GRADES MATHEMATICS COURSES

    The aim of this research is to analyse the effects of realistic mathematics education on student achievement and attitudes towards mathematics on the unit ‘numbers and operations’ for the 5th grades. For this reason, two classes were randomly identified. After seeing that the groups were equivalent using the Achievement test of Group Equivalency, Learning Area Achievement Test and Scale of Attitudes towards Mathematics were applied to both groups. After the application was conducted, the experimental group was taught the unit using the Realistic Mathematics Education activities for 7 weeks. On the other hand, the control group was taught the topic using the activities suggested by the Ministry of Education. Learning Area Achievement Test and Scale of Attitudes towards Mathematics were conducted again as post-tests, and the results were evaluated by comparing them with the pre-test results. After this comparison, it was seen that the Academic Achievement and the attitudes of students who were taught in accordance with the Realistic Mathematics Education was higher than the students who were taught by classical methods
