Behaviour of Saturated Sand Models under Principal Stress Axes Rotation in Shake Table Tests

    Get PDF
One dimensional shake table tests were performed on saturated loose or medium dense Toyoura sand models, in order to study the response of level grounds during earthquakes and the nature of generated excess pore water pressure. 12 virgin models which prepared under identical condition, were subjected to cyclic and three different irregular shear stress patterns. It is shown that there is correlation between excess pore pressure ratio and developed shear strain, independent from applied shear stress histories and density of the models. Also, the relations of accumulated shear work as well as normalized shear work, per unit volume, are considered with generated pore pressure. According to the results of this study, in the first part of the experiments that undrained condition can be assumed, mentioned parameters correlate with excess pore pressure. This relation is independent from stress path for shear work and from stress path and confining pressure for normalized shear work

When the recurrence rule is applied to evaluate the zeros of Chebyshev polynomial, the number of accurate digits of the approximation is almost equal to the calculation digits even if it has the cluster zeros. We consider the peculiar phenomenon and give some remarks

    Identification of 45 New Neutron-Rich Isotopes Produced by In-Flight Fission of a 238U Beam at 345 MeV/nucleon

    A search for new isotopes using in-flight fission of a 345 MeV/nucleon 238U beam has been carried out at the RI Beam Factory at the RIKEN Nishina Center. Fission fragments were analyzed and identified by using the superconducting in-flight separator BigRIPS. We observed 45 new neutron-rich isotopes: 71Mn, 73,74Fe, 76Co, 79Ni, 81,82Cu, 84,85Zn, 87Ga, 90Ge, 95Se, 98Br, 101Kr, 103Rb, 106,107Sr, 108,109Y, 111,112Zr, 114,115Nb, 115,116,117Mo, 119,120Tc, 121,122,123,124Ru, 123,124,125,126Rh, 127,128Pd, 133Cd, 138Sn, 140Sb, 143Te, 145I, 148Xe, and 152Ba

They were cultivated in newly opened lands. This paper describes the process of reclamation and the changes thereafter in a typical area of commercial cultivation of maize, and analyzes the land, technological and economic factors related to them. The fieldwork was carried out in an area extending between Saraburi and Lopburi provinces, which was reclaimed in the 1950s. Within the area, significant variations in cropping pattern, technology and productivity were observed. These spatial variations were largely governed by such physical conditions as rainfall and soil until around 1980. Thereafter, various modern technologies were adopted within a short period, which resulted in greater diversification in crops and the farming system
