    A comprehensive rotorcraft analysis model was used to predict blade aerodynamic and structural loads for comparison with flight test data. The data were obtained from an SA349/2 helicopter with an advanced geometry rotor. Sensitivity of the correlation to wake geometry, blade dynamics, and blade aerodynamic effects was investigated. Blade chordwise pressure coefficients were predicted for the blade transonic regimes using the model coupled with two finite-difference codes

    The primary effects of Reynolds number on two dimensional airfoil characteristics are discussed. Results from an extensive literature search reveal the manner in which the minimum drag and maximum lift are affected by the Reynolds number. C sub d sub min and C sub l sub max are plotted versus Reynolds number for airfoils of various thickness and camber. From the trends observed in the airfoil data, universal scaling laws and easily implemented methods are developed to account for Reynolds number effects in helicopter rotor analyses

    Ferroelectricity due to orbital ordering in E-type undoped rare-earth manganites

    Aiming at understanding the origin of the electronic contribution to ferroelectric polarization in undoped manganites, we evaluate the Berry phase of orbital-polarizable Bloch electrons as an orbital ordering (OO) establishes in the background of an antiferromagnetic E-type configuration. The onset of OO is tuned by the Jahn-Teller (JT) interaction in a tight-binding model for interacting electrons moving along zigzag chains. A finite polarization is found as soon as the JT coupling is strong enough to induce OO, supporting the large electronic contribution predicted from first principles.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, figure and text substantially improved.     Hub and blade structural loads measurements of an SA349/2 helicopter

    Data from 23 flight conditions, including level flights ranging from advance ratio mu = 0.14 to 0.37 and steady turning flights from advance ratio mu = 0.26 to 0.35, are presented for an Aerospatiale SA349/2 Gazelle helicopter. The data include hub loads data (for 6 of the 23 conditions), blade structural data at eleven different blade radial stations, and fuselage structural data. All dynamic data are presented as harmonic analysis coefficients (ten harmonics per rotor revolution). The data acquisition and reduction procedures are also documented.
