Superconducting pi qubit with a ferromagnetic Josephson junction

    Get PDF
Solid-state qubits have the potential for the large-scale integration and for the flexibility of layout for quantum computing. However, their short decoherence time due to the coupling to the environment remains an important problem to be overcome. We propose a new superconducting qubit which incorporates a spin-electronic device: the qubit consists of a superconducting ring with a ferromagnetic pi junction which has a metallic contact and a normal Josephson junction with an insulating barrier. Thus, a quantum coherent two-level state is formed without an external magnetic field. This feature and the simple structure of the qubit make it possible to reduce its size leading to a long decoherence time.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

Synthesis and Optimization of Reversible Circuits - A Survey

Reversible logic circuits have been historically motivated by theoretical research in low-power electronics as well as practical improvement of bit-manipulation transforms in cryptography and computer graphics. Recently, reversible circuits have attracted interest as components of quantum algorithms, as well as in photonic and nano-computing technologies where some switching devices offer no signal gain. Research in generating reversible logic distinguishes between circuit synthesis, post-synthesis optimization, and technology mapping. In this survey, we review algorithmic paradigms --- search-based, cycle-based, transformation-based, and BDD-based --- as well as specific algorithms for reversible synthesis, both exact and heuristic. We conclude the survey by outlining key open challenges in synthesis of reversible and quantum logic, as well as most common misconceptions.Comment: 34 pages, 15 figures, 2 table

    Superconductor-ferromagnet junction phase qubit

We propose a scheme for a phase qubit in an SIFIS junction, consisting of bulk superconductors (S), a proximity-induced ferromagnet (F), and insulating barriers (I). The qubit state is constituted by 0 and π\pi phase states of the junction, in which the charging energy of the junction leads to the superposition of the two states. The qubit is operated by the gate voltage applied to the ferromagnet, and insensitive to the decoherence sources existing in other superconducting qubits. We discuss a scalable scheme for qubit measurement and tunable two-qubit coupling.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figure

Metal-insulator transition in the two-orbital Hubbard model at fractional band fillings: Self-energy functional approach

We investigate the infinite-dimensional two-orbital Hubbard model at arbitrary band fillings. By means of the self-energy functional approach, we discuss the stability of the metallic state in the systems with same and different bandwidths. It is found that the Mott insulating phases are realized at commensurate band fillings. Furthermore, it is clarified that the orbital selective Mott phase with one orbital localized and the other itinerant is stabilized even at fractional band fillings in the system with different bandwidths.Comment: 7 pages, 10 figure

Phase Diagram of the Spin-Orbital model on the Square Lattice

We study the phase diagram of the spin-orbital model in both the weak and strong limits of the quartic spin-orbital exchange interaction. This allows us to study quantum phase transitions in the model and to approach from both sides the most interesting intermediate-coupling regime and in particular the SU(4)-symmetric point of the Hamiltonian. It was suggested earlier by Li et al [Phys.Rev.Lett. vol. 81, 3527 (1999)] that at this point the ground state of the system is a plaquette spin-orbital liquid. We argue that the state is more complex. There is plaquette order, but it is anisotropic: bonds in one direction are stronger than those in the perpendicular direction. This order is somewhat similar to that found recently in the frustrated J_1-J_2 Heisenberg spin model.Comment: 8 pages, 4 Postscript figure

    Mobile small polaron

Extending the Froehlich polaron problem to a discrete ionic lattice we study a polaronic state with a small radius of the wave function but a large size of the lattice distortion. We calculate the energy dispersion and the effective mass of the polaron with the 1/\lambda perturbation theory and with the exact Monte Carlo method in the nonadiabatic and adiabatic regimes, respectively. The ``small'' Froehlich polaron is found to be lighter than the small Holstein polaron by one or more orders of magnitude.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, published versio
