The prototype of a thermoregulatory system for measurement and control of temperature inside prosthetic socket
Thermal related problems with prostheses are common complaints of amputee people. This article aims to introduce a thermoregulatory technique as a potential solution for those problems in prostheses wearers. A smart thermoregulatory system was designed, manufactured, and installed on a phantom model of a prosthetic socket. It captured temperature data from 16 sensors positioned at the interface between the phantom model and a silicone liner and used their average for comparison with a defined set temperature to select required heating or cooling functions for thermal equilibrium. A thin layer of Aluminum was used to transfer temperature between thermal pump and different sites around the phantom model.
The feasibility of this thermoregulatory technique was confirmed by its ability to provide thermal equilibrium. Further investigations to improve the design of thermoregulatory system are necessary including temperature transfer element and power consumption based on thermal capacity and thermal inertia of the residual limb. The smart thermoregulatory system by providing thermal equilibrium between two sides of a prosthetic silicone liner can control residual limb skin temperature and sweating. Consequently, it can improve quality of life in amputee people.N/
Tortoise coordinate and Hawking effect in a dynamical Kerr black hole
Hawking effect from a dynamical Kerr black hole is investigated using the
improved Damour-Ruffini method with a new tortoise coordinate transformation.
Hawking temperature of the black hole can be obtained point by point at the
event horizon. It is found that Hawking temperatures of different points on the
surface are different. Moreover, the temperature does not turn to zero while
the dynamical black hole turns to an extreme one.Comment: 7 page
Quantum Correlated Interstitials and the Hall Resistivity of the Magnetically Induced Wigner Crystal
We study a trial wavefunction for an interstitial in a Wigner crystal. We
find that the electron correlations, ignored in a conventional Hartree-Fock
treatment, dramatically lower the interstitial energy, especially at fillings
close to an incompressible liquid state. The correlation between the
interstitial electron and the lattice electrons at is introduced by
constructing a trial wave- function which bears a Jastrow factor of a Laughlin
state at . For fillings close to but just below , we find
that a perfect Wigner crystal becomes unstable against formation of such
interstitials. It is argued that conduction due to correlated interstitials in
the presence of weak disorder leads to the {\it classical} Hall resistivity, as
seen experimentally.Comment: 10 pages, RevTe
Distributed phase-covariant cloning with atomic ensembles via quantum Zeno dynamics
We propose an interesting scheme for distributed orbital state quantum
cloning with atomic ensembles based on the quantum Zeno dynamics. These atomic
ensembles which consist of identical three-level atoms are trapped in distant
cavities connected by a single-mode integrated optical star coupler. These
qubits can be manipulated through appropriate modulation of the coupling
constants between atomic ensemble and classical field, and the cavity decay can
be largely suppressed as the number of atoms in the ensemble qubits increases.
The fidelity of each cloned qubit can be obtained with analytic result. The
present scheme provides a new way to construct the quantum communication
network.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
A System for the Synchronized Recording of Sonomyography, Electromyography and Joint Angle
Ultrasound and electromyography (EMG) are two of the most commonly used diagnostic tools for the assessment of muscles. Recently, many studies reported the simultaneous collection of EMG signals and ultrasound images, which were normally amplified and digitized by different devices. However, there is lack of a systematic method to synchronize them and no study has reported the effects of ultrasound gel to the EMG signal collection during the simultaneous data collection. In this paper, we introduced a new method to synchronize ultrasound B-scan images, EMG signals, joint angles and other related signals (e.g. force and velocity signals) in real-time. The B-mode ultrasound images were simultaneously captured by the PC together with the surface EMG (SEMG) and the joint angle signal. The deformations of the forearm muscles induced by wrist motions were extracted from a sequence of ultrasound images, named as Sonomyography (SMG). Preliminary experiments demonstrated that the proposed method could reliably collect the synchronized ultrasound images, SEMG signals and joint angle signals in real-time. In addition, the effect of ultrasound gel on the SEMG signals when the EMG electrodes were close to the ultrasound probe was studied. It was found that the SEMG signals were not significantly affected by the amount of the ultrasound gel. The system is being used for the study of contractions of various muscles as well as the muscle fatigue
Non-Markovian dynamics for an open two-level system without rotating wave approximation: Indivisibility versus backflow of information
By use of the two measures presented recently, the indivisibility and the
backflow of information, we study the non-Markovianity of the dynamics for a
two-level system interacting with a zero-temperature structured environment
without using rotating wave approximation (RWA). In the limit of weak coupling
between the system and the reservoir, and by expanding the time-convolutionless
(TCL) generator to the forth order with respect to the coupling strength, the
time-local non-Markovian master equation for the reduced state of the system is
derived. Under the secular approximation, the exact analytic solution is
obtained and the sufficient and necessary conditions for the indivisibility and
the backflow of information for the system dynamics are presented. In the more
general case, we investigate numerically the properties of the two measures for
the case of Lorentzian reservoir. Our results show the importance of the
counter-rotating terms to the short-time-scale non-Markovian behavior of the
system dynamics, further expose the relations between the two measures and
their rationality as non-Markovian measures. Finally, the complete positivity
of the dynamics of the considered system is discussed
A study of charged kappa in
Based on events collected by BESII, the decay
is studied. In the invariant mass
spectrum recoiling against the charged , the charged
particle is found as a low mass enhancement. If a Breit-Wigner function of
constant width is used to parameterize the kappa, its pole locates at MeV/. Also in this channel,
the decay is observed for the first time.
Its branching ratio is .Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure
Measurements of the observed cross sections for exclusive light hadrons containing at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV
By analyzing the data sets of 17.3, 6.5 and 1.0 pb taken,
respectively, at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV with the BES-II
detector at the BEPC collider, we measure the observed cross sections for

points. Based on these cross sections we set the upper limits on the observed
cross sections and the branching fractions for decay into these
final states at 90% C.L..Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
Structure of Schlafen13 reveals a new class of tRNA/rRNA- targeting RNase engaged in translational control
Cleavage of transfer (t)RNA and ribosomal (r)RNA are critical and conserved steps of translational control for cells to overcome varied environmental stresses. However, enzymes that are responsible for this event have not been fully identified in high eukaryotes. Here, we report a mammalian tRNA/rRNA-targeting endoribonuclease: SLFN13, a member of the Schlafen family. Structural study reveals a unique pseudo-dimeric U-pillow-shaped architecture of the SLFN13 N'-domain that may clamp base-paired RNAs. SLFN13 is able to digest tRNAs and rRNAs in vitro, and the endonucleolytic cleavage dissevers 11 nucleotides from the 3'-terminus of tRNA at the acceptor stem. The cytoplasmically localised SLFN13 inhibits protein synthesis in 293T cells. Moreover, SLFN13 restricts HIV replication in a nucleolytic activity-dependent manner. According to these observations, we term SLFN13 RNase S13. Our study provides insights into the modulation of translational machinery in high eukaryotes, and sheds light on the functional mechanisms of the Schlafen family
