This paper discusses the modelling and simulation of welding process based on the finite element method (FEM) in order to predict the welding distortion of tractor wheel blades. Two FEM modellings are needed to obtain the welding distortion models, namely thermal and elasto-plastic. The effect of welding thermal is assumed as tendon force and to be used as input of the analysis of elasto-plastic modelling. Welding distortion simulation results were verified using the experimental data. The verification results have shown similar shape of the welding deformation between simulations and experimental. Also, deviation value of displacement distortion between simulation and experimental is small. Hence, the simulation of welding deformation modelling using thermal elasto-plastic FEM can be used to predict the welding distortion of tractor wheel blades. Based on simulation results, the shape of radial and axial displacement distortion due to welding the blade with serial sequence was larger than that of the shape distortion due to welding of the blade with a recommended sequence. After welding simulation of those of 16 wheels tractor blades, the predicted value of displacement distortion due to welding of the blade with serial sequence is equal to 3,393mm, which was larger than that of 1,440mm due to welding of the blade with recommended sequence

AbstractWoody biomass is densified in the form of pellets in order to improve its physical and mechanical properties during handling and storage. However, limited research work has been conducted on the mechanical properties of pellets made from agricultural and wood biomass blends. Two commonly available forestry biomass, spruce (S) and pine (P), and three agricultural biomasses, reed canary grass (RCG), timothy hay (H) and switchgrass (SW), were used to form pellets. The mechanical properties were evaluated for three different particle sizes (150-300, 300-425 and 425-600μm). An Instron attached with an in-house built single unit pelletizer and temperature controlled die was employed to produce a pellet. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of particle size and blending (agricultural and woody biomass) on the mechanical properties (density and intrinsic yield stress). For all biomasses, pellets made from lower particle size (150-300μm) exhibited higher density (950-1178kg/m3 for spruce and pine; 668-800kg/m3 for RCG, H and SW; 900-970kg/m3 for blended biomass). The intrinsic yield stress exhibited differences in values for individual forestry (40MPa) and agricultural biomass (27-48MPa), however after blending the values converged closest to that value for forestry biomass. In conclusion, blending low cost and abundant available agricultural biomass with woody biomass could not only result in better mechanical properties but would also help to meet the pellet market demand in future

Spiral CT angiography in an infant with a hypoplastic aortic arch

    Get PDF
The advent of multislice computed tomography (CT) has revolutionised the performance of body CT and allowed the development of CT angiography (CTA). CTA is a robust and minimally invasive method of visualizing the arterial vascular system. The newer generation of multidetector scans has allowed for shorter scanning times with no respiratory misregistration at peak vascular opacification following peripheral contrast injection. The volume of data obtained from these scans can be further manipulated to generate two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) images with no increase in radiation to the patient. Hence, CTA has gained popularity and importance as the alternative diagnostic tool especially for ill patients in which conventional angiography is inadvisable

This paper attempts to analyze the relationship between Jakarta Stock Exchange Islamic Index (JII) and selected macroeconomic variables namely exchange rate, industrial production, inflation rate, and money supply. We used monthly data from January 2000 toDecember 2010.The methodology used in this paper is time series techniques of co-integration and vector autoregression (VAR). In the analysis, we rely on variance decompositions and impulse-response functions to capture the strength of interactions among variables. The results revealed that there is co-integration between Islamic stock prices and macroeconomic variables. Specifically, Indonesian Islamic stock market are driven more by domestic factors. These macroeconomic factors considered to be emphasized as the policy instruments by the governments in order to stabilize Islamic stock prices
