    Complexity, Tunneling and Geometrical Symmetry

    It is demonstrated in the context of the simple one-dimensional example of a barrier in an infinite well, that highly complex behavior of the time evolution of a wave function is associated with the almost degeneracy of levels in the process of tunneling. Degenerate conditions are obtained by shifting the position of the barrier. The complexity strength depends on the number of almost degenerate levels which depend on geometrical symmetry.     A Cosmological Model with Dark Spinor Source

    In this paper, we discuss the system of Friedman-Robertson-Walker metric coupling with massive nonlinear dark spinors in detail, where the thermodynamic movement of spinors is also taken into account. The results show that, the nonlinear potential of the spinor field can provide a tiny negative pressure, which resists the Universe to become singular. The solution is oscillating in time and closed in space, which approximately takes the following form g_{\mu\nu}=\bar R^2(1-\delta\cos t)^2\diag(1,-1,-\sin^2r ,-\sin^2r \sin^2\theta), with Rˉ=(12)×1012\bar R= (1\sim 2)\times 10^{12} light year, and δ=0.960.99\delta=0.96\sim 0.99.     L-Tryptophan Production by Auxotrophic and Analogue Resistant Mutants of Aureobacterium flavescens

    A number of tyrosine plus phenylalanine double auxotrophic mutants were isolated by N-methyl-N-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) treatment of a locally isolated strain of Aureobacterium flavescens of which 11A39 and 11A17 were selected on the basis of their tryptophan production in a mineral salt medium over other isolated mutant strains. The mutational block in the aromatic amino acid biosynthetic pathway of the selected double auxotrophs were determined. By controlling pH of the production medium to near neutrality, the active growth period could be extended up to 72 h and more tryptophan was accumulated compared to pH unregulated culture where the active growth ceased after 48 h. Further improvement of the tryptophan production has been achieved by stepwise isolation of a mutant strain resistant to the tryptophan analogues p-fluorotryptophan (FT) and 5-methyl tryptophan (MT) from the 11A39. Demand for L-tryptophan as food additive and therapeutic agent is increasing day by day throughout the World, particularly in the underdeveloped and developing countries like India. Still to date India depends on other countries for L-tryptophan. The aim of this work is to develop a potent high yielding, feed back insensitive mutant strain and optimization of its medium pH for maximum production of tryptophan

    Big Bang Nucleosynthesis Constraints on Hadronically and Electromagnetically Decaying Relic Neutral Particles

    Big Bang nucleosynthesis in the presence of decaying relic neutral particles is examined in detail. All non-thermal processes important for the determination of light-element abundance yields of 2H, 3H, 3He, 4He, 6Li, and 7Li are coupled to the thermonuclear fusion reactions to obtain comparatively accurate results. Predicted light-element yields are compared to observationally inferred limits on primordial light-element abundances to infer constraints on the abundances and properties of relic decaying particles with decay times in the interval 0.01 sec < tau < 10^(12) sec. Decaying particles are typically constrained at early times by 4He or 2H, at intermediate times by 6Li, and at large times by the 3He/2H ratio. Constraints are shown for a large number of hadronic branching ratios and decaying particle masses and may be applied to constrain the evolution of the early Universe.Comment: 24 pages (revtex), 11 figures, title changed, matches published versio

    We consider the inverse problem of the reconstruction of a Schr\"odinger operator on a unknown Riemannian manifold or a domain of Euclidean space. The data used is a part of the boundary Γ\Gamma and the eigenvalues corresponding to a set of impedances in the Robin boundary condition which vary on Γ\Gamma. The proof is based on the analysis of the behaviour of the eigenfunctions on the boundary as well as in perturbation theory of eigenvalues. This reduces the problem to an inverse boundary spectral problem solved by the boundary control method

    Postprandial Glucose Improves the Risk Prediction of Cardiovascular Death Beyond the Metabolic Syndrome in the Nondiabetic Population

    OBJECTIVE - With increasing evidence about the cardiovascular risk associated with postprandial nonfasting glucose and lipid dysmetabolism, it remains uncertain whether the postprandial glucose concentration increases the ability of metabolic syndrome to predict cardiovascular events. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS - This was an observational study of 15, 145 individuals aged 35-75 years without diabetes or cardiovascular diseases. Postprandial glucose was obtained 2 In after a lunch meal. Metabolic syndrome was diagnosed using the criteria Of the U.S. National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III. Cardiovascular and all-cause deaths were primary outcomes. RESULTS - During a median follow-up of 6.7 years, 410 individuals died, including 82 deaths from cardiovascular causes. In a Cox model adjusting for metabolic syndrome status as well as age, sex, smoking, systolic blood pressure, LDL, and HDL cholesterol levels, elevated 2-h postprandial glucose increased the risk of cardiovascular and all-cause death (per millimole per liter increase, hazard ratio 1.26 [95% CI 1.11-1.42] and 1.10 [1. 04-1.16], respectively), with significant trends across the postprandial glucose quintiles. Including 2-h postprandial glucose into a metabolic syndrome-included mustivariate risk prediction model conferred a discernible improvement of the model in discriminating between those who died of cardiovascular causes and who did not (integrated discrimination improvement 0.4, P = 0. 005; net reclassification improvement 13.4%, P = 0.03); however, the improvement was only marginal for all-cause death. CONCLUSIONS - Given the risk prediction based on metabolic syndrome and established cardiovascular risk factors, 2-h postprandial glucose improves the predictive ability to identity nondiabetic individuals at increased risk of cardiovascular death

    Initial Data for General Relativity Containing a Marginally Outer Trapped Torus

    Asymptotically flat, time-symmetric, axially symmetric and conformally flat initial data for vacuum general relativity are studied numerically on R3R^3 with the interior of a standard torus cut out. By the choice of boundary condition the torus is marginally outer trapped, and thus a surface of minimal area. Apart from pure scaling the standard tori are parameterized by a radius a[0,1]a\in [0,1], where a=0a=0 corresponds to the limit where the boundary torus degenerates to a circle and a=1a=1 to a torus that touches the axis of symmetry. Noting that these tori are the orbits of a U(1)×U(1)U(1)\times U(1) conformal isometry allows for a simple scheme to solve the constraint, involving numerical solution of only ordinary differential equations.The tori are unstable minimal surfaces (i.e. only saddle points of the area functional) and thus can not be apparent horizons, but are always surrounded by an apparent horizon of spherical topology, which is analyzed in the context of the hoop conjecture and isoperimetric inequality for black holes.Comment: 12 pages, REVTeX 3.0, also available (with additional pictures and numerical data) from http://doppler.thp.univie.ac.at/~shusa/gr.htm

    L^{2}-restriction bounds for eigenfunctions along curves in the quantum completely integrable case

    We show that for a quantum completely integrable system in two dimensions,the L2L^{2}-normalized joint eigenfunctions of the commuting semiclassical pseudodifferential operators satisfy restriction bounds ofthe form γϕj2ds=O(log) \int_{\gamma} |\phi_{j}^{\hbar}|^2 ds = {\mathcal O}(|\log \hbar|) for generic curves γ\gamma on the surface. We also prove that the maximal restriction bounds of Burq-Gerard-Tzvetkov are always attained for certain exceptional subsequences of eigenfunctions.Comment: Correct some typos and added some more detail in section
